Something is wrong with the video on this camera

They started using the video on it recently and found that it randomly has sound issues. The quality of the video picture looks really good, however the sound is HORRIBLE. There is static and it is random. They don't know until after the video is recorded and then played back on the computer that it is RUINED. So disappointing to have recorded once in a lifetime events to find out the sound is not working. The pictures are good (not DSLR, but I wasn't expecting DSLR)... the video picture looks good but the video is worthless without the sound working.
