I bought this camera for a trip to Kenya. I also purchased the 200 mm lens. The pictures are clear and crisp. The ability to have the camera focus either on a large area or a single spot allowed me to take some great long distance, but well focused pictures. However, what i learned is that there is a limit to the size and distance at which the single focus area will work...such as birds. i then had to return to a larger focus area. I am an amateur photographer so am just learning all the bells and whistles of the camera. All of that being said, the pictures are better than any I had taken with my older Olympus 10mpx camera...which were good but not this good. The video is better than my small Canon camcorder but not always easy to take. one of my videos came out with a wave, sort of making some Zebras dance. Not sure what that was all about. I plan on continuing to get to know the camera in the years ahead.

I am totally pleased with this camera. A little smaller than some other DSLR's that I use, but perfect fit for my wife who I bought it for Mother'sDay.
Light, nice red body and easy to locate settings for my wife who is a budding photographer.
The kit lens, which some say are not usually up to snuff, worked very well and gave me excellent definition for 8x10 prints.

The camera is great. I read a lot of reviews prior to buying this one and they were right. The camera is a great beginner DSLR camera with instructions and easy to pick-up and just start taking pictures. I bought it as a gift for my wife, who has always wanted to upgrade to DSLR. She takes pictures of Landscapes, Family and Micro pics of flowers and small items. She loves the camera. The only thing that the camera either does not have or we just have not figured out yet is letting you zoom in on a picture after it has been taken to make sure it is in focus.

I am NOT a photography pro or even "enthusiast". I simply felt the need to break free from the frustrations of shooting a "point and shoot".
Bought this camera for an overseas trip and I am very happy with my purchase overall. My only regret is not getting a 2 lens kit to allow me some additional versatility. Battery life is awesome, picture quality is extremely good and the general feel of the camera is exactly what I was looking for.

Very small and lightweight camera body. Seems to work with all Nikon "latest" lenses. I have several older autofocus lenses that do not work with this camera. So check out those older lenses with this camera before you buy. Read the manual, there are several issues that "happen" when using this camera that you will need the manual to clear up. This happens when you inadvertently change the settings which can be easily done on this and other Nikon cameras. While not serious they can be annoying. Most are covered in the manual. Also, if you are using off-brand batteries, be careful about updating the firmware. Nikon firmware doesn't like non-Nikon batteries and if you upgrade to newer versions of the firmware, your off-brand batteries may not work. And you cannot, repeat, CANNOT revert to older versions of the firmware once you upgrade. Search the web on this issue -- this may change, but I doubt it. Still its a good camera, just read the manual and keep it handy.

Beautiful Photos- Quick to Learn Features

I bought this camera primarily for travel and family photos. The last SLR camera I had took film. I was pleased to be able to take very good photos with the camera set to auto. However, I wanted to do more and move away from the safetynet of auto so I took a class. I realized that, for the type of photography I will be doing, I should have just bought the body and invest separately in the primary lens that I needed. My bundle had the 18-55 mm lens and 56-200 mm lense. After my class, I ended up purchasing an 18-270 mm lense, which will cover most of my photo needs. If taking photos in situations where lense interchange will cause you to lose a lot of shots, my recommendation would be to spring for the more versatile lense from the get go.

The camera is great! My wife and I got the package that has the 32GB SD card, training video that is specific to that camera, and carrying case. I love all of them and have had no issues yet. We got a great deal because they were getting the new models in and we opened a rewards card and we got a price match from a major competitor online. We also got the best buy warranty which I HIGLY Reccomend! I am not usually one to get the warranty because I feel that it is a waste of money, but with the insurance I am not afraid to take the camera places that are not typical. It gives me a great peace of mind knowing that if anything happens to it I can get it replaced or repaired. My little girl is 3 months old now and we have taken tons of pictures. We try to use the manual modes that enable us to take more controlled pictures which turn out great since we learned from the video. But we are also able to use the automatic mode when we need a great quality quick pic. Would recommend to anybody. Very Happy with this product.
As far as quiet mode I have not tried it myself but my wife said it is louder than the regular mode. Not sure what the deal is there but maybe try it out in the store?

Love it! It's a great camera for point-and-shoot photography, as well as manual setting options. I purchased this camera for a photography class, and I'm glad that I bought this specific model. It's as simple as a compact digital camera, and then more! For someone who doesn't have much knowledge in the technique of picture taking, using this camera is great in my beginning stages as a photographer.

I was very surprised with this camera. I am not a professional by any means, but I was drawn to this camera because it felt great and the quality in the store was fantastic. As soon as I purchased it, I took it outdoors to take pictures and I was very pleased. The pictures were crisp and clean. The camera is easy to set up and easy to use. The only complaint I have is that the grip is not the best. It slipped out of my hands a couple of times, but luckily, I had the strap around my neck to catch it!

Bought this camera because we were tired of not being able to capture the perfect shots quickly. What an upgrade from the point and shoot pocket cameras. This camera has tons of features and settings and I cant wait to try and master them all. It is a perfect camera to get used to before buying anything more expensive.

I am not really a photographer and only wanted to get a DSLR because we couldn't get decent pictures of our 2 year old with our point and shoot. I'm glad we did. This camera is definitely worth it and takes great pictures. Pretty easy to use if you don't want to learn all of the photography stuff you really don't have to. definitely recomend. Will probably also go get a longer zoom lens at some point
