I have a "many years old" Canon Rebel XT which, while still working well, was showing its age, technologically. I debated between the current Canon Rebels and the Nikon but chose the D3300 because it appeared to be a better camera with more capability for the money. It has exceeded my expectations. The camera is faster, has proven it can capture a very good photo is challenging light, and has tremendous definition in the photograph. While I value the programmable modes, it can be set up as a almost goof-proof point-and-shoot, if needed. The 55 to 200 mm zoom in the kit is just additional icing on the cake.

Good camera so far. Still learning all the features but has some great "creative" apps to use right on the camera. Pretty cool. Use the 55-200mm lens the most for softball action pictures.

I like having a better camera but I was a little disappointed to learn that the lenses forces you to push a button and zoom out to take photos. I tired to take some quick pics but I missed the shot because i had to find and press the button and then find out I didn't zoom out the lens enough because the camera won't take the picture until you do this. It does take good photos I just don't like this annoying aspect of the lens.

The reason of the 4 stars is because of several improvements needed, should have wifi built in, lcd sreen should be movable, camera is expensive enough not to have those improvements.

Nikon D3300 Kit with 2 AF-S DX Nikon zoom lenses

This kit, on sale was an outstanding buy for a high quality introductory DSLR by the renowned Nikon company. This is an APS-C camera, meaning the digital sensor, which captures the image, is smaller than the "professional" models that have sensors in the larger 35mm format (36x24). That being said, is not a problem -- rather it takes a bit of a mental adjustment. If you multiply the focal length by 1.5, you get the effective focal length equivalent in 35 mm. For example, if your zoom lens is set to 50mm, you have an approximate equivalent lens to a 75 mm in a 35 mm format. The math is easy! This kit came with an 18-55 mm zoom and a 55-200 mm zoom. In addition, it came with a camera bag, shoulder/neck strap, AC - lithium battery charger, and the sale even threw in a fast 32 GB SDHC card and the compact WIFI adaptor to connect to your smart phone via WIFI. Extraordinary deal for the price.
