We came from a Nikon D5000, out first DSLR, and wow, what an upgrade. We are still to use all of the features, but the image quality is top notch in this product range. If you can, spend a little more and go to the D7100. It was just a little too much out of our price range.

This is the camera with all the "basics" a photographer needs - in addition to the playthings like wifi.

    Perfect first DSLR

I wanted to upgrade from point and shoot to a DSLR, and this fit all my needs. I glanced at the manual, but needed little instruction to shoot right out of the box. I liked the sharp, clear multi-point autofocus, true colors, and the ability to point and shoot if I am in a hurry. The screen in back is on a hinge so upshots and down shots become much easier. I've tried both Nikon and Canon, and all I will say is if you use point and shoot mode, and your shots are mostly indoors, you may prefer a Canon. If you shoot outdoors, or use any manual adjustments, the Nikon is superior in clarity and color.

    I'm returning this camera

Bought this camera yesterday upgrading from d3200... I think I got a dud. Live view is awful and unusable if you zoom in 2 times it freezes and lags thought this had an exceed 4 processor also auto focus is acting up even on single point and I'm using a 35 mm 1.8. Not happy dropping the money for this to Happen my d3200 is much better. I'll just return this and go straight to d7100 when the price drops in a few weeks.

    Can't stop loving it

So before I bought a 1 000 dollar DSLR, I made a lot of research about the camera and it took months to choose the right camera and to be honest I'm super happy that I choose the Nikon d5300, I've had it for almost 2 months and I've taken over 3 000 pictures (probably more). Something that I've found untrue in a lot of reviews is that the battery is "bad" or that it only last for like 500-600 pictures, but after using it for 2 months i've only charged it 2 times, and i've been recording videos as well Before I bought the nikon I've been using an old canon for probably 3-4 years and I never felt that passionated for photography, but after only 2 months i've gone from taking pictures in automatic mode and not knowing that much about ISO and so on, but when I started using the nikon I fell in love with cameras and photography. One thing you should know if you're buying this camera is that you have to buy a memory card with at least 32 GB, because when you use the highest picture quality with raw it will easily take 10-12 mb + 20-30mb per picture but you know what when you see the result of the picture you're going to be more then happy!

I upgraded to this from a D60. I am still a beginner and learning something new every day. I love how light weight this camera is. I love the wifi feature! Yes you can buy the adapter and all that for other cameras but the built in aspect of it is just great. I was in between the D3300 or the D5300. I went with this one, mainly because of the swivel screen, built in wi-fi and more auto focus points. It is totally up to the user to decide if these features are worth the $250 price difference. For me, they were and I don't think I'll ever regret paying this price for this camera.

Did lots of homework for this purchase. I finally did a search "top rated entry level DSLR" and chose the D5300 for it's total package of versatility. Extremely pleased with it so far and all the photos have been shot in all auto. Will be expanding to use the many features and taking it out of auto.

This great Bundle provided everything I needed to immediately begin taking photos. The Best Buy rep was very helpful. It has been many years since my college photography classes, but I was able to immediately take some great photos at the lake! I plan to take some classes so that I can take full advantage of what this camera has to offer.

Good camera just don't purchase from Best Buy

Tried to purchase the D5300 camera package that comes with two lenses, memory card, and case but two Best Buy sales people said there was no such item and that I wanted the D3200 camera package. After showing them it was listed online and in stock at their store, they left to get some one else to help. After an hour, I left and purchased elsewhere.

Do not buy Best buys extended warranty.

I bought the nikon d5300 in may (3 months ago) and a week and a half ago my flash quit working. The camera itself is great, the flash however is not. I use my camera daily for my place of employment, often I do not need the flash, however, when I buy something for $700 I expect everything to work. I do not mistreat my camera, when not in use, it sits in my bag and my camera bag is generally stationary. Upon my attempt to return it, I was told by courtney hans (the manager) that they would send it in to have it repaired, to which I explained that I used it daily and that I was going to quakecon this weekend and she said that she understood and then proceeded to tell me that they would send it in, which I could have done myself If I wanted to wait a few months to get my camera back. The whole purpose of buying the extended warranty was that I was told that if anything goes wrong that they would replace it and yet they wouldnt. The moral of the story is, dont buy the warranty unless you feel like wasting your money and im pretty displeased that the flash decided to stop working after 3 months with very little wear and tear. I would give the camera 4 stars, but im taking a few points off for the lack of an attempt to even resolve my situation so that I would still have a camera for my job and quakecon this weekend. This will be the last extended warranty I buy from best buy as it seems that im more or less just giving them free money for doing something that I could do on my own. Its also worth noting that despite me being within the one year warranty, they were going to use my extended warranty to "send it off".
