This was a pre-retirement gift to myself for the traveling I plan to do next year when I retire. I thought it best to start now so there aren't too many things on the list. I did an incredible amount of research and it will serve me well in the national parks. Thank you to all the reviewers that made it easy to choose.

My husband broke his old Nikon body years ago and after sending it back a few times they were unable to fix it. It was out of warranty so we just kept all the lenses. He finally decided it was time to get another SLR so we got this package. We only needed the body but ended up getting the lens for the same price.

The camera is very responsive and clicks photos at a furious pace. I tried the 18-55 mm lens kit that came with the camera but then found it very limiting in terms of zoom coming from a Point and Shoot that had 10X zoom. Returned it and bought the camera again with 18-140 mm lens kit.

This camera is versatile enough for beginners (using automatic mode) or professionals (manual mode). It is lightweight and fun.

Got this one for a teen who is dear to my heart. Easy enough to get them going on the "green mode" and auto focus, but comfortable enough in aperture priority and manual mode (although manual is a bit of a pain) for teaching DOF or how shutter speeds relate to motion. The lens is competent, but I regret not getting the wider range zoom. Loses one star for the lack of a second control and the weird setup for manual mode. First cameras, especially, need a good manual mode for classes.

First DSLR. Friend got the 3400 that I used briefly before purchasing mine. The screen is a huge pro in this model compared to lower models. Much clearer and swivels. Screen is on the surface and doesn't look like it's reseeded behind a window like the 3400.

The camera is lightweight and easy to use. I think it has a better grip handle than canon t series which is too narrow for my hand. I did have an issue with it is switching the camera view to the viewscreen, when I take a photo, there is a delay or lag in the shot which then blurred the photo if i slightly moved. I would have to revert back to the traditional way of viewing and snapping a photo, which is looking through the view finder eyepiece.

I bought this camera after doing much research. I took under 20 pictures before realizing that I would never be able to use this camera in my classroom. Even when I changed the shutter sound in settings, it was still too loud. I was very sad because I love SO many features of this camera, specifically the smaller size and the flip screen.
