The camera is easy to use and light weight. There are a lot of setting that can be changed so reviewing the book several times is needed in order to fully understand what it can do with it.

Just moving from 35mm SLR Minolta to DSLR. Awesome camera. It has changed my mind about what digital can do versus film. I have all of the manipulative ability of aperture/shutter speed plus the benefit of being able to go from full color to B/W with the flip of a switch. Very easy to use, especially if left in AUTO. Slightly cumbersome in selection of aperture and shutter speeds "on the fly" though. All in all, I am very satisfied and glad I went to the 5500 over the 3300 series.

More necessary features than I need as a camera but it does come in handy at times. Reading and understand all the specifications in the manual were time consuming but it turned out to be educational. Overall experience was rewarding.

Purchased this camera on sale after Christmas. Has a fantastic feel and amazing features. I just need a few years to learn everything that it is capable of. For now, using mainly the automatic settings and taking fantastic pictures.

My go-to cameras for the last five years have been my phone and a four-thirds camera. When I bought a new camera, I went back to this DSLR from Nikon. I'm glad I did so; I love the photos I took at a wedding. I'll continue to use my four-thirds camera for situations where I want to use a compact, good camera, but for great photographs, I'm using the Nikon. It's easy enough to use out of the box, but there's enough complexity that I also bought a book to master the settings.

I have always been a fan of photography and took a class in high school but had never had my own DSLR. I was a little intimidated by all of the features at first but learned them really quickly and was taking gorgeous pictures in no time. The only con is how annoying it can be to sync my camera to my phone to transfer photos over but once the connection is made its the coolest thing in the world!

I owned a Ricoh 35mm SLR film camera in the 80's and loved what I could do with it. Now with this D5500, I'm able to make higher quality photos than I ever realized. And the latest version of Adobe Light Room and Photoshop, when shooting RAW mode, you can make minor adjustments to make your photos pop! HD video is also a bonus. I'm now saving up to purchase an Atomos Ninja Flame that will allow me to record 1080p 60fps with unlimited time. Overall, this is an awesome camera. I'd recommend it well above the D3300 and D3400. I had looked at the latest offering from Canon, the T6 series (T6, T6i, and T6s). While the Canon does good, for my purposes (low light, night sky, and high dynamic range), I went with the Nikon D5500 and I am not sorry one bit. I'm also saving to get a good Prime lens, perhaps the 50mm f/1.8G. My next lens purchase after a prime will be the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II.

Of course I am a beginner, BUT I can honestly say this is one great camera that could work for anybody! The quality of the photos are amazing and I love the many focus point on the camera as well! It helps express what I'm mainly exposing in my photos. The effects are nice and I also like how you can't touch the screen and take a quick photo that way instead of pressing the actual button. Very great for taking pictures of fast acting children!

This is replacing my D90 which was a decent camera but this has new features to make taking pictures more automated, or allowing to change settings manually to achieve the best performance.
