Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the exceptional camera quality, ease of use, and high resolution of the D850 DSLR. Many also praise its impressive low-light performance and long battery life, while noting its extensive features. However, some find the camera's weight and size to be substantial, and the price point relatively high. A learning curve is also mentioned by a few users.

Purchased the camera ( i have had a D750 for 8 years) so i upgraded - The D850 is not working correcly after 5 months basically threw 2500 away. I can not use the camera - it takes double exposures and will not bracket. Images look soft and underexposed -

I have since returned to Nikon to have it repaired under warranty since it was out of the return period. I have been without a camera since February and now with all that is going on it seems I will be out of a camera for quite some time. Let me add a camera that I haven't even fully paid for. A camera that I only had for 3 months just dies and now I get to keep paying for something I don't even have in my possession. Really angry with Nikon for not just replacing it and really angry with Best Buy for not replacing it.

Just got it today via FedEx. Tooled around this evening with the lovely light we had here. Colors are vivid and accurate, I have a D5, might be selling it for a second d850. I'm a wedding and fashion/portrait shooter, do some sports now and then. The auto focus was dead on with my 105mm 1.4. Didn't calibrate didn't need to. Focus ability is every thing to me. It's got to be sharp and quick, keeper rate will really go up with this. The view finder is huge and makes it easy to see your focus and composition. Don't really care about the resolution, anything over 16 to 20 is a good enough for most work. I will shoot at 45 when I need to crop and for large group pictures. I still need to dial it in but noise at high iso was nice and low. Really making it hard to justify the d5... Except that d5 can see in the dark. If your serious about your photography and pleasing clients this is the camera to own. Canon is going to be scrambling. Nikon loves to drop a big one every now and then, this is going to be like the D3 revolution all over again.

I have been using this tool for 2 years now and it keeps impressing me to this day. Nature, wildlife photography being done about 2 to 3 times a week and during every possible element. The lens set is the entire N glass line from 18 all the way to 500, including the 105 prime for macro, and the SB-700 flash; all strapped to my hip. The camera has endured accidental bangs on rocks and many other things, Snow, Rain, Strong thunderstorms, getting dipped in the water while getting to rocks to perch on, Sand (the camera mortal enemy), and much more; and this camera has never hesitated. Does not even really have any scratches on it. It is built like a tank and can be beaten hard without flinching. Very strong. The camera takes both SD and XQD cards. Either can be set as the primary, secondary, or mirror. When the primary becomes full it will seamlessly switch to the secondary. I highly recommend using the XQD as the primary as it will give you much less time at the computer when the card is cleared. On a USB 3.1 (Gen 2) setup a 64 Gig XQD will clear in about 4 minutes. A word of caution to those still deciding on this Camera. Do not use third party equipment when it comes to anything related to camera power (Batteries, chargers, grips, and so on.) The third party equipment will look similar to the Nikon equipment and that is where similarities end. You will be taking a serious risk if you do not heed this caution. The EN-EL 18 battery can be used with this camera if you have the MB-D18 grip*. This combination will give you up to 9FPS, other wise you will have 7 FPS. The camera does not come with a charger for the EN-EL 18 (A/B/C) battery. Only use the Nikon MH-26A to charge the EN-EL 18battery, do not use a third party charger as they will not calibrate and eventually will quit charging the battery. Of course, the camera does comes with the charger for the battery that comes with the camera. The only downside to this camera is Snap bridge. The app that lets you move pictures from the camera (Bluetooth and Wifi; usually Bluetooth) to your phone and also allows the phone to act as the view finder to take pictures (The app will connect to the camera by Wifi and the camera will go into a live view mode where the phone is the view. You can then place the camera where you need it and walk away. Looking through the phone you will see what the camera sees and will be able to change S/A, WB, ISO settings as well as take a picture.) Snap bridge does have its problems and it can become frustrating at times. This app still needs a lot of work from Nikon. The problems do have me constantly searching to see if a third party app ever shows up. Snap bridge is more of a problem on other Nikon cameras. *Warning: All third party hand grips are not weather sealed, Do not ever use one, or you risk serious electrical damage to the camera should you end up in the rain or the grip becomes wet. Restocking fee of over 300.00 for unopened next day return is pretty high! Bought a Nikon 850 but wife wanted another brand.

I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this camera. I wanted a USA warranty. I found many grey market cameras online that were cheaper but for a few more dollars for this purchase to me it was worth it. I have had the chance to take about 1000 shots with it, the quality of the photos at higher iso is great. Very fast. I have used Nikon in the past and absolutely love this camera. It is a little heavy and I could have gone with a mirror less for less weight but I already have a good collection of quality lens and didn’t want to start over with that. If you compare the weight difference it’s not that much between the mirror less and this camera. If you purchase I don’t think you will be disappointed. Best Buy has always been fast delivery, the packaging could have been a little better.

With my 70+ years in doing photography the Nikon 850d is probably the most advanced instrument I have used. The image quality with the 24-70 2.8 lens is sharp and contrasty An excellent combo.

    Best of all worlds

I've owned the camera since it came out and I must say that it is by far the best I've used. I owned the D810 and D500 before it and it flawlessly combines everything I LOVED about those cameras and adds up to something even greater. The focus system is incredible. The low light quality is 2nd to none. I've printed 8.5x11 pictures shot at iso 12800 and people didn't believe the iso they were shot at. The view finder is HUGE and even wearing glasses I can see EVERYTHING without a problem. I also LOVE that I can shoot in a crop mode and the view finder will actually black out everything not being used. Shooting 1x1 aspect ratio through the view finder is a different experience than cropping after the fact and it changes the way you compose. The color is flawless. The new auto daylight white balance is very handy. I've found ZERO about the camera I don't like.

A step above the D810 but below the Sony A7R3

I have owned a number of Nikon cameras over the years, most recently two D810's and now this D850. Overall this is a very good camera but it is not an "omg" camera.... Going between this camera and my Sony A7R3 I keep missing the EVF, focus peaking, eye AF, and color science the Sony has over the Nikon, though the Nikon is a fine camera overall. For my needs the Sony is a better choice though I prefer the ergonomics of the gripped d850 better. I should add, however, that the $400+ grip is important to get the most from the D850, so factor that into your calculations, as well as the XQD cards which are expensive at the present time.

While this camera takes wonderful images it is a vast sampling of plastics-technology. Plastic, plastic, and still more plastic. Then we buy the lenses and guess what? More plastic. Then I buy the battery grip and yes, more plastic.Starting to see a pattern here.A great consumer grade camera
