not good for a photographer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.if you want this sb700 to use as a slave (remote position on this flash) your camera must have a listing in the menu of your camera saying "commander" to highlight and click on. if not ,the flash will not fire.!!. what is wrong with Nikon? I have a Nikon sb26 and when set to slave the unit will flash when it detects FLASH from any other flash unit. if I had known this before I would never have purchased the sb700.

Flash didn't work!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have one SB700 that works well, and needed a second for off camera flash. I got one in the morning - made an hour drive trip to get one from Best Buy. When I tried to use it in the afternoon, it would not turn on. I rushed to get fresh batteries, thinking my rechargeables might not be working. But it didn't work with fresh batteries, either! Ugh! I returned it without incident.

Great all around flash
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the one Nikon flash unit you want to carry around with you. Most of the power of the larger unit with the features that matter. Combined with a proper light modifier like a Gary Fong Lightsphere or Powersnoot this makes for excellent shots in the field with on or off camera auto metering or full manual mode. I'm using this with a D7000 which allows me to get the most out of this unit. It will work fine for small studio work also in place of a strobe but they are too expensive for such work, strobes are cheaper with more professional light modifiers available. This flash can be used in combination with studio stobes with RF poppers to fire everything at once, but at that point, the features of this expensive unit aren't being utilized as a $50 generic flash can do the same work in manual mode. Where this unit excels is on and off camera auto.

Awesome SpeedLight
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.at first i wasnt thinking of buying the sb-700 because of the experience i had with SB-600. im a big fan of the SB-600's because of their accessibility for mods. I madeexternal power source and pc sync for my sb-600 and works 100% - got the SB-700 and trying to do the same but it has weird screws... tsk! tsk! tsk! i wish they made this flash with external power packs. ok lets get back to the sb-700. 1st the feel and built is pretty impressive. the flash head was a little hard to turn but in couple of use it loosen a little bit. I love the fast that it has SB-900 features on a cheaper price. who needs to reach 200mm? definitely not me... 2nd, i love the fact that its better than the sb-900 when it comes to overheating. sb-700 can shoot more and longer before it overheats. i have compared sb-700 with my 600's and speed cycle is very impressive and also with the burst rate. overall i do recommend this flash and ill probably get 1-2 more for my events.

Porsche Cayman
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love my SB700! This is a powerful flash, but at a reasonable price. It's like a Porsche Cayman: the power of a 911, but the cost-effectiveness of a Boxster. It's a very good compromise. Speed is fantastic; flexibility of bounce flash, LCD controls, remote/master options, diffuser, case... all pluses!

Great Flash for all types of photography
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a professional photographer who owns a photography business named MTI Photography LLC, I primarily shoot events and weddings. This flash stands up to the performance I need. To doesn't overheat to much, but make sure you have enough batteries as this only will last about 250 shots. Lithium batteries will last about 350, but the recycle time is increased to 3.5 seconds vs 2.5 on Alkaline or Ni-Mh. Overall this is a great flash and I'm going to purchase another one to aid in filling up larger spaces in weddings. The only thing I wish it has was a socket for an external battery pack. That flash, best buy doesn't even sell, and it's over $500. I'll stick with this one for now.

Great piece of equipment!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Typically I shoot without the aid of a flash as I prefer available light photography. Recently we had to shoot a wedding that at the last minute was moved indoors, to top it off - almost zero light. Luckily there was a Best Buy close and we picked up the SB-700 in a pinch. I had previously used the Nikon SB-800 and after it had been stolen I continued to shoot without a flash. I was greatly impressed with the SB-700's performance, I was worried that it wouldn't perform as well as my trusty 800 had in the past and I was proven wrong all night! This is an excellent buy and I would recommend it to anyone.

SB700
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to be able to use Nikon's CLS flash system on my old D50 (to control my SB600 in wireless remote). I can have multiple flash going with complete balance of light. Camera & flash talk to each other: flash head zooms as you zoom the lens. Interface is MUCH easier than SB600. Package includes diffuser + 2 most commonly used color filters (for tungsten & fluorescent lighting) all of which clip on securely, & are great accessories you don't need to buy later. OEM flashes are expensive, but they sure work well.

Great Flash with great feature set
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just purchased this today to go along with my D7000 and SB-600. I'm using it mainly for additinal off-camera, wireless lighting along with my SB-600, to compliment Nikon's Creative Lighting System, which is superb. Basically, this flash can be used in conjunction with several other off-camera flashes for great portraiture photography. The only problem is that it's 2 guide numbers down from the SB-600. Although it has multiple features over the SB-600, they reduced the guide number from 30 to 28. Why would they lower the power output on a newer, better unit, when compared to it's predecessor? Well, at any rate, I'm still happy with it's performance, thus far.

I love this flash - easy to use, great pictures.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to be a professional photographer, but moved on to shooting video professionally. When it comes to stills, I am no longer interested in lots of details about f-stops, shutter priority, etc. I just want to pick up my camera, attach the flash, point and shoot and see a good picture. OK, that is overstating the case, but you get the picture (and with this flash you do). This flash does wonders for the pictures - bright, crisp, clean. Of course I have a good Nikon Camera, but it is good to know that I now have a flash that will optimize the capabilities of the camera without much fuss. One day I may again be interested in taking my photography to a higher lever and I know that I have a flash that can meet the demands of such photography - but for now I really live the Through the Lens features of this camera. Great for beginners and professionals alike.

Does what a flash should
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The strobe is very straight forward for beginners and can be adjusted by those wanting more control, although it does take some reading to figure this out. The accessories such as the diffuser and the light correction filters are great as you usually have to pay extra for these. I would recommend this to anyone needing a basic but functional strobe for their Nikon DSLR, but you probably want to go for the SB-900 if you're going to be using it for more professional applications. Lastly, for any strobe, you'll want to get high quality rechargeable batteries. Otherwise you'll be spending a fortune on batteries.

Made an incredible difference in my photos!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am the "go to" person among friends and family for photography at family events. I purchased this flash because I volunteered to do the pics at a small wedding. The flash did everything I needed. I would recommend that anyone who uses this flash take the time to familiarize themselves with basic lighting for photography and at least the basic features on the flash...particularly how to "bounce" the light from the flash to achieve your desired effect. I bought the flash the day before the wedding and would have wanted more time to learn, but I was able to get the job done and produce amazing shots. The recycle time is so quick that I didn't notice any lag and didn't ever have to wait. I just don't understand why camera flashes are almost as expensive or even MORE expensive than the cameras! It defies logic.

A good replacement for SB600
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SB700 has been great with my Nikon D40 as a nice onboard camera. The features are great and easy to learn. I have used off camera as a optical slave which is great and something that SB-600 does not have. However when setting up with other speedlights, it is missing the PC sync port, however if you have radio trigger, then it should not be a problem.

Fantastic Flash
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this SB-700 to go with my D7000 and it a a fantastic combination. i especially like the fact that I can set the built in flash to commander mode and use the SB-700 off camera without any cables.

After some research I decided on this Nikon flash
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to a Bar Mitzvah and shot about 6 dozen pics. This was my first experience with it. I'm just an amateur photographer. I have a Nikon D5100, and used both my lenses. An 18-55 and a 55-300. There were some pro's there using similar flashes. I used the bounce function also. The pics came out good and so far I'm very happy with it. I also used Sanyo Eneloop batteries with it after some research. I hope this review will be helpful. This is my first one.
