I bought this about a month ago and haven't had a chance to use too much. I have made great use of angling the flash towards the ceiling and "bouncing" it to get soft, even lighting. It also made the difference at an outdoor baptism. It made for much better photographs with a flash that isn't harsh and fills shadows. There are a lot of adjustments that I still have to learn and look forward to even better photographs. That said, the basic, automatic settings (that I have been using so far) will give you a better image than the camera's (D5100) built in flash.

I know that quality comes at a price and with a high price tag on this flash it is seriously worth it. This flash has all the features you would want and more.

I've had this flash for over a year now and I was hesitant at first to spend $300 on a flash, but I'm so glad I did. The improvements in my photography have shown since day 1 using my SB700. Recommended as well to newbies and those starting out in photography as well as intermediate users.

I am just starting out as a freelance photographer and this has been a great product for me to use. It is a good price and good quality. Would recommend to a friend.

If SB700 compares with other Nikon SB flashes, it is very excellent and better than them, except SB 900 and SB910. SB 700 can cover up much angle. SB700 is suitable for most of Nikon cameras. Also, it is easy to operate, not complicate at all.

This was a great flash compared to my previous entry level flash from Nikon. I am still learning how to use it but so far it is great.

works better then flash that comes with D5100, allows for great speed shoting in darker areas. would recommend this flash.

i am very impressed.The buttons are all in the right place with all the right wording or icons so I could see exactly what was needed. Overall, this is a great flash/speedlight upgrade to the built-in flash on your dSLR.

This is a great flash, even for a beginner like myself. I feel there is a lot of "growing into" it that can be accomplished over time and use. The only thing I don't like is how overheated it gets with taking back to back shots. I missed out on a bunch of shots with the flash not firing because of how quickly it gets too hot with repeated use. Other than that, it's been great.

Excellent flash unit for your nikon camera. Great flash for beginners, enthusiasts and pros. Comes with great features and range for a price much less than SB-910.

Works well for my nikon d7000. Be careful which lens you use with flash.

Love this flash If you like the sb600 or sb800 you will love this one.

got this as my first pro flash couldnt be happier does its job extremely well

I'm not much of a photographer, so this was a little complicated for me. It was actually too bright in most photos, and wasn't able to figure out how to tone down the brightness.
