Great quality. But not a fan that you have to have the camera on screen “mode” and can’t take a normal photo. It’s a heavy camera when there’s a lens too so it didn’t make for the most straight pictures. Call me old school but I wouldn’t recommend.

What Nikon set out to do with the Z30 was a create an approachable vlogging camera that leans more set it and forget it than some other cameras on the market. With apps like TikTok and YouTube still going strong in popularity, the Z30 gives people an opportunity to step their game up to the next level. Don’t get me wrong, seasoned veterans will find plenty of customization with the Z30 as its still an excellent full fledge videography shooter. However, Nikon has designed the Z30 with the novice in mind and that’s a good thing. The build of the Z30 is very familiar with other Nikon cameras, especially the Z50. The biggest build difference between the two that you notice is the lack of a physical viewfinder. This was done by design to make mounting a mic on top of the camera a simpler task. Again, this is Nikon angling the Z30 towards vloggers and video content creators rather than photographers. The Z30 has a 180-degree articulating screen to face forward for when you are doing solo vlogs and want to ensure you are capturing yourself in frame. The screen quality is excellent, and the brightness is more than enough for peak daylight. The screen also supports touch functionality which makes it even easier for those coming from smartphones to a dedicated shooter. The Nikon Z30 has a 20 megapixel that is more than sufficient for video. When taking photos, I was completely satisfied by the quality when you consider this is an entry level vlog camera, not a stills shooter. The part I was most impressed by with this sensor was the low light performance. It was downright incredible at this price point. The best part was the ease of getting high quality low light footage. I simply stuck with auto mode and received excellent low light footage. I’m used to messing around a bit with my cameras when it comes to low light, but the Z30 does a great job of doing the heavy lifting. The last main thing I want to focus on with my time using the Z30 is the auto focus. I think when it comes to a user/novice friendly vlogging camera, the auto focus needs to be solid. When you’re filming and you are in the zone of talking and doing your thing on camera, sometimes we forget or don’t have the ability to constantly adjust the focus. This is something the Z30 has done well in experience. The auto focus tracks objects well, detects faces, and even does eye tracking. All of this results in, again, an easy-to-use videography tool that can be an excellent gateway for content creators looking to up their game. The Nikon Z30 was a product created on a mission. A mission to bring high end tools to novice users in a friendly package. I even made use of the Nikon remote vlogging handle grip which just made it that much easier to capture my content. There is so much to love here, and I must give it to the team at Nikon for having a goal and executing it so well. If you are looking to up your video catching game, then the Nikon Z30 is a great choice. Take a look at the creator’s accessory kit, it only makes it easier to start catching your content!

Very capable compact mirrorless, I wanted to love it and the only reason I didn’t kept it was cause of the flippy screen and not a tilt screen. This cam is better for bloggers but I purchased it for photography only and missed the tilt screen

This is an amazing Content Creator. There is no electronic view finder. But not really necessary for vloggers and content creators. Takes great pics and is mirrorless technology.

So we all have our phones now a days, and we are getting pretty good at taking pictures with them. BUT, there are times, when you really want to have the best of the best, and that can't always come from a mobile phone. Only so much can be done there, with the lack of changeable lenses, and all the features that a digital camera like this brings to the table First setup is very straight forward, battery, memory card, lens and you are ready to go. Taking your first pictures is as simple as turning it on, and clicking the button (yes you actually click a button). You have all the options on this camera to change your focal length, the way you want to.. not the way some AI picks for you. (or you can leave it in one of the many full and partially automatic modes). The camera is small, and relatively light weight. not overly bulky out of the box. You can add different Nikon lenses to this, for even more versatility (need a long zoom lens for that bird watching, or one for action photos from the stands? you have those add on options). With the ability to add third party accessories as well, like a microphone... this camera can also be used to create your next stunning video. I have been a canon person for a long time... but with some of their recent changes, decided to try this out. And one of my children wants to get into real photography, so this was a good time to make the switch and trial. If you are looking for that next step beyond the smart phone pictures, and want a TON of flexibility and options, look no further.

I purchased this camera specifically to make YouTube talking head videos and I think it’s perfect for that as well as vlogging. I really like Nikons menu system it’s very simple and easy to find everything.

Amazing camera at this price point! 4K 30fps, single-clip, long-form recording when you're filming events (not multiple 5-minute clips like my old Nikon D7500). Crystal clear, and the internal microphone is actually pretty darn good (although I typically connect an external mic). This camera is truly intended for vloggers and self-shooting, but it serves me well as a B-camera for videos and even photos. Z-mount kit lenses are pretty good, too. Although, I typically connect my F-mount Sigma lenses to this bad boy with my Nikon FTZ Adapter. Sigma will be releasing Z-mount lenses in 2023, so I'm excited about that. Another great callout, you can film in slow motion and time lapse with this camera, too. I recently filmed and snapped photos at a conference in Philly, and my Z-30 outperformed my old D7500. It's not a Sony Alpha for sure, but to be intended for vloggers, this little mirrorless companion can do more than advertised. If you're looking for a better-than-average camera to record yourself for YouTube/social media/your website or use at family gatherings, this is a great purchase for sure.
