We like to be able to brew a single cup of coffee on our own schedule, so have been using a Keurig for a couple of years. The convenience of the Keurig is nice, but it just isn’t the same as a fresh-brewed cup of coffee. There’s always that slight plastic taste to most K-cup pods. The Ninja combines the convenience with the fresh brew. Our review is largely a comparison to the Keurig. Even though we’re all about the individual cup of coffee, we did try brewing a carafe as well. We also tested the iced coffee feature. Pros: - Brews hot enough to really get a rich cup of coffee. If you have to foo your coffee before you can drink it, that’s a good sign. - Taste is highly influenced by the coffee you have, so it is hard to say how much the Ninja contributed beyond the brew heat. I like a very bold cup of coffee. I expected to have to use the Rich Brew setting to get a regular cup of coffee to my liking, but the Classic Brew did just fine (I did use the higher number of scoops recommended). - Warming tray keeps the carafe hot. Booklet says it will stay on for 2 hours. We didn’t leave it that long, but unlike many coffee makers with warming trays, the coffee in the carafe stayed at brew heat (most warming trays do just that – keep it warm, not hot). This was impressive. 45 minutes after brewing, the coffee was as hot as it was when it just finished brewing. It was even still warm an hour after turning the warmer off (so beware that it is not an instant cool down). - System is smart enough to know when the carafe is not on the warming tray and does not turn it on. I have a tall coffee cup that I set on the warming tray (not the cup stand) and the warming tray did not come on. - Ninja lived up to its promise regarding iced coffee. I did brew it in such a way that it tasted as rich as the same cup not over ice (see Con note about instructions). Cons: - Does take a little longer to brew than the Keurig. Single cup was 3 ½ minutes to the Keurig’s 2. That time does NOT include preheat. Half carafe took 10 minutes - Preheat takes a good 3 minutes. Just hit the preheat and then prep your coffee so the wait doesn’t feel as long. There is also no beep when preheat is done as the instructions indicate. So, just watch for when “pre-heat” turns to the time again. - (Because I think these time factors actually contribute to a good cup of coffee, I am not dropping my rating. It is just something to be aware if you’re a Keurig user and don’t want to wait any longer for your cup-o-joe). - The beep DOES NOT mean done. It continues to drip 30-60 seconds after the beep. The beep is just that the brewing is done. The green instruction booklet does not mention this, but the other included material does. I learned the hard way, so just be a little patient after the beep to let the drip finish. - There are no explicit instructions for iced coffee, just to fill your container with ice. You essentially brew like you would a hot coffee, but need a container larger than what you’re brewing. So for a cup, a mug twice as large as what you normally brew a single cup in if your regular brew fills that cup (if your regular cup is 8 oz., then fill a 16 oz. container with ice).

The Ninja Coffee Brewer is well-designed, nicely packaged and attractive. It offers twelve different combinations of brew quantity and strength--cup, travel mug, half carafe or full carafe quantities in classic, rich or over ice strength. Pros: permanent filter basket; no pods required; saves money easy-to-fill water tank, different brew quantities, different brew strengths flip-down shelf to dispense coffee directly into cup, or flip up for travel mug or carafe drip-stop feature ability to add the amount of coffee and adjust to your taste Cons: (minor) instructions do not say what grind of coffee to use, e.g., regular, coarse or fine when brewed directly over a full tumbler of ice, nearly all of the ice melts, and the coffee is not as cold as it should be

Simple system for a better & HOTTER cup-o-coffee!

This is my first higher-level coffee brewer, having used the economy model “hot water drip” pot for years. I was expecting to have to go through a lot of fiddling and a challenging learning curve to deal with the more complex Ninja brewing process, but was pleasantly surprised that using the Ninja system is pretty much “1-2-3” buttons and everything else is taken care of by the Ninja. Watching the Ninja “walk through” video on YTube was helpful, and other than going through the quick start manual it is really a simple process to choose the preferred strength and amount. 1 – power on; 2 – choose the size from single cup to full carafe; 3 – choose the coffee strength; 4 – good to go! The Ninja preheats the water, wets down the grounds to infuse, and then starts to brew. The water reservoir is easy to remove and fill at the sink – no more “pour and spill” water on the counter. This is one of the nicer features as you can fill up the reservoir and then brew a single cup (nice flip-down cup holder), travel mug, half carafe, or a full carafe. Permanent coffee filter pops right out and is easy to clean. One of the nicest things about the Ninja is keeping the coffee nice and hot, from the first cup to the last cup after several hours. I had gotten used to having the first cup pretty hot and then having less heat from one cup to the next. The shape of the Ninja carafe (more at the bottom) and the improved warmer plate keep the coffee piping hot all the way to the last cup. The warmer plate can be set to turn off automatically from 1 to 4 hours after brewing. Another very nice feature is being able to brew just one cup or a larger sized travel mug with the Ninja automatically using the right amount of water from the reservoir. Just put the cup on the flip-down stand or travel mug on the warmer plate (doesn’t turn on unless you are using the carafe – nice touch!) and very convenient and a lot less fiddling around with the coffee pot to make a quick pick-me-up cup at lunch or after work. Of course you will have to refresh the coffee grounds, but the “prepackaged” one-cup systems really don’t make a very good cup of coffee anyway. Wife has always preferred the “percolator” type pot, and that means 2 coffee pots on the counter. The hope was that the Ninja brewer would replace both pots and keep both of us happy, and it has worked out well so far! Pairing the Ninja with a bean grinder seems to be the right combination to satisfy the coffee tastes for the whole house. She has always said that the percolator makes the best coffee, but the Ninja seems to be changing her mind and is certainly a lot easier to use. Overall, the Ninja makes brewing much easier, the coffee is hotter and tastes better – with a good range of choices to fine tune the brew to your personal taste, is simple to use, and can’t be beat for the “single cup” or “travel mug” choices. There are a lot of simple recipes that come along with the user’s manual and they sound pretty tasty, so will give a few of those a try over the holiday season to impress the dinner guests!

I bought this to replace a K-cup machine wanted to use the single cup setting. After several tries it keeps overflowing a 12oz cup manual says it should be 9.5oz but it putting out 14 to 16 oz. Then I tried the mug setting and it was 20oz should be 14. For some reason its putting out 6oz too much water. Bringing this back hopefully the next one works properly. I would not recommend it right now

There is a lot to like about this Ninja Coffee Brewer although I particularly don't like Ninja's TV commercials. Truth be told, I found it very easy to use. Literally at a touch of a button I had coffee brewed and it really brought all the flavor that you don't usually get from home brewers, at least compared to the one this is replacing at our house. I really enjoyed the Over Ice function. Surprisingly, it did not taste watered down which is common with home coffee brewers. I'm not addicted to coffee but I enjoy a good one, especially freshly brewed. However, I often refuse to make some just because of the waste of time and coffee, especially in the morning before I leave for work. Coffee made with this brewer tastes a lot better than the popular alternative. With it, you can also make just one cup if you wish. It is very fast, precise and automated. No excuse not to brew some coffee as you head out the door. You can also program it so you can wake up and your travel mug will be filled and waiting for you with the fresh drink. Equally important for me is the fact that you have 4 choices of sizes, from a simple mug to a full jar. Another thing to like is how easy and quick it is to clean. I love automation.

Makes great coffee when it works however I had nothing but problems with this machine. The first one I got the warming plate quit within two weeks. I exchanged it for a replacement which after 3 weeks of use now continuously tells me it needs to be cleaned and stopped functioning. Am returning for a refund.

The Ninja coffee brewer makes great coffee. It very easy to use and comes ready to go out of the box. You can set it to brew half or full carafe, over ice or single cup. The water reservoir comes off easily to refill, the LED display is nice and bright and easy to read. There is a hot plate to keep your brew warm and it also comes with a coffee scoop. Overall I am pleased with this brewer. It makes great coffee and is a very solid machine. If you are in the market for a good coffee machine look no further.

This has to be my favorite coffee pot ever! I have tried everything from the cheapest ones out there, to the more expensive ones that use the little cups to make single cups. So far, this one is my new favorite! I had it out of the box and was up and running within minutes. This really is a very simple coffee pot to set up and operate. Unboxing took a couple minutes, a quick scan through the manual, and I had a steaming hot pot of coffee minutes after that! It really was that simple! Press the power button to turn it on, select the cup or pot size you are using, then select the strength you want. That's really all you have to do. Even programming it to have a pot of coffee ready for you in the morning is very simple as well. Just turn it on, press the delay brew button, set the time you want it to start and then select the cup size, and strength and that's it. This is the perfect coffee pot for someone who isn't that tech savvy and wants something that's easy to operate. Other things I love about this coffee make is the fact that the water container is removable so you can bring it to the faucet to fill instead of filling up the coffee pot and then bringing it over to the coffee maker and try to pour it in without spilling any water. I also love the little drip stop switch. When the coffee's done, just slide the lever over and you don't get any extra water dripping down onto the hotplate. One other BIG plus is the fact that you don't have to use filters. I know they don't cost a ton of money, but over time, this coffee pot could pay for itself simply because you don't have to spend money on filters. Then there is also the fact that you can make just a cup of coffee, fill up your stainless steel travel mug to go to work, or brew a half pot, or a full pot. It really is extremely versatile! Overall, I think it is a great design, very easy to operate, and best of all...it makes a great cup of coffee just the way you like it. Whether you like a very strong cup, or a more milder one. I would highly recommend this to any coffee lover!

    Best of Both Worlds

We have two sides in our house when it comes to making coffee, the side that wants a pot of coffee and the side that wants a single cup from a machine that has a reservoir. Because of this, we have had two machines sitting on the kitchen counter. The Ninja addresses both sides and it is really the best of both worlds. I like that there is a reservoir so I don't have to worry about exact measurements when I just want my one cup of water for tea or hot chocolate. At the same time, the reservoir easily makes a pot and is also very easy to fill back up. It's eco-friendly as you don't need to get filters nor does it use K-cups so that waste is eliminated. It is more compact than other brewers so it takes less counter space. There is the ability to choose how strong you would like your coffee and my teen is in raptures about being able to have iced coffee right from the Ninja. It comes with the pot but it can also accommodate travel mugs and you can program the size you want. I haven't gotten into all that this machine can do or the items, such as the measuring implement that comes with it, but my teen loves the feature where she can set the coffee to brew at a certain time. While she doesn't use it that much now as she is drinking iced coffee, she's looking forward to the Autumn when she'll have her coffee waiting for her as she runs off to school.

I was a little hesitant deciding on this brewer because of the price. I still have a problem with any single-purpose small kitchen appliance over $100.00. But after trying and LOVING my Nutra Ninja blender system I wanted to give it a try. In all this is a very good brewer. It allows you to select the brew size (volume) and the brew strength. It brews in multiple stages to allow the grounds to “bloom” and extract a bit more flavor from your favorite bean. Use whatever coffee you like best without any special cups to buy. The included scoop allows measuring for different sizes and is very durable. The included metal mesh screen or “permanent filter” did just what I expected. It allows far too much of the grounds to pass forming excessive sediment in the pot. This was my experience when I’ve tried these types before so it was no surprise and I’ll be using the paper filters to resolve. BB’s website should be updated as it is inaccurate. It lists the reservoir as being glass, when it is actually plastic. However, I do like that the reservoir is removable for easy filling at the tap or from my filtered dispenser on my fridge. The carafe is a little smaller than I would like for a multi-cup brew. I am the only coffee drinker in our home so for daily use it’s perfect. But if we’re entertaining guests, I’ll need to make multiple pots. Also, the carafe is very tall with a narrow opening and that makes it hard to clean. I guess I’ll have to buy a bottle brush. In summary, I’m very pleased with the brewing results. After grinding some fresh beans and loading it up, seven minutes later I had a wonderful cup of coffee. The Auto-IQ brewing pattern seems to extract more flavor and releases more aromatics so my home, not just my kitchen, smelled of fresh brewed coffee. For me, the major drawback is the design of the carafe.

Have brewed a number of full carafe and single cups with a couple of different brands of coffee, all medium grind. Coffee is perfect temperature and flavorful with both Classic and Rich brew options. Have yet to try over ice as I'm not that big of an iced coffee drinker but a few of the included recipes sound rather good so may give them a try. Love the removable water reservoir and how easy it is to take off and fill up. Always disliked having to fill pot up with water and carry over to machine and pour into little opening on my old machine. The double sided scoop with suggested amounts per brew size is a nice touch as well. The one con that I was going to mention really just turned out to be an oversight on my part. After a few pots I didn't like the fact that there would be considerable dripping when removing the carafe for a few minutes after brewing. I then realized that I had totally overlooked the drip stop toggle on the brew basket. I had gotten used to my old machine that had an auto drip stop. The only other small minor con would be that the button labels can at times be a bit hard to read if the lighting in your room is dim. Otherwise this is an awesome machine that I would completely recommend !!

As a coffee aficionado, I've owned 2 super automatic machines in the past dozen years - one for $600, the other $750. While these look very impressive on your counter, and offer an array of features, one has to ask oneself "am i really using all these options?" I just want a good cup of coffee that's not weak; not burnt. Get a Keurig you say? I don't quite understand how these machines have endeared themselves to the public. Pay $10 for what amounts to a few ounces of coffee for the sake of convenience? Not me? And if you're the least bit environmentally conscious, what about the waste of all the packaging? I think the Ninja people have recognized a market niche and have gone in headfirst. This machine, the CF021 is on the lower end of their product line, but still has some very nice features. It has the timer for those into that (as a usual 1 cupper, i prefer to wait for the brew as opposed to those mornings i want to sleep in a little longer only to have a lukewarm cup waiting for me.) You get the choice of size - one cup, half carafe, full carafe. You get the choice of brew - classic (mild), or rich (bold) . And I love the inclusion of the over ice setting - no more weak iced coffee at home. So what am i giving up over my expensive super automatic machine? Suppose i want a latte? Well, I could go for a higher end Ninja with a built in frother, but really, I have one of those battery powered frothers you can buy for $10 or $15, and they do a fine job. Also much neater than playing with the steam coming out of a full service machine. I will say being a diehard, i do miss the grinding function of a fully automatic, but after i thought about it, as long as you buy ground coffee fresh, it'll taste great. I had just gotten in the habit of ordering 5 lbs of beans at a time, and storing them in the freezer. Now i have more freezer space! The one time i really don't miss the super automatic is when we have a family gathering. At dessert time, I felt like a Starbucks barista grinding out single cups on order while everyone enjoyed their pies & cakes. I was never impressed with carafe style coffee makers, but this one does very well. I did some research on the Ninja, and came across a technical review of how it extracts the various brews. These guys used refractometers to measure total dissolved solids, extraction percentage, etc. Serious coffee guys! For the bottom end of the Ninja lineup, this machine produces a good cup of coffee at a good price. I think i'll be taking a look at some of their higher end machines; right now i have my eye on one that does specialty brews (read espresso.) Then i'll be able to pass down this one to a needy relative that's going broke buying k-cups!

Purchased this coffee maker after a lot of research, but was disappointed. It is a basic coffee maker similar to any $15 coffee maker. It has three settings- a cup, a travel mug and a carafe. The cup always overflows, even when you use the largest possible mug from Starbucks. So the mug is not the best option to use- I went to the Ninja trouble shooting web site and they recommend doing a clean cycle- after the clean cycle it worked slightly better, but not much! I would not recommend this machine.

The Ninja coffee maker is a wonderful device. I am particular about my coffee as I need it every morning to start the day. Overall, the unit delivers what Ninja says it will. The Ninja coffee maker has replaced my old coffee maker and my Keurig since the Ninja can brew whatever size of coffee you need. The coffee made in the machine does honestly taste better than my old maker. Pros: * Filling the water reservoir is easy and no-mess * You can easy select the amount of coffee to brew (cup, travel mug, half-carafe, full-carafe) * Easy to schedule when the coffee will brew * Coffee brew selection (Classic, rich, over ice) * Machine ensures even saturation of grinds * Coffee stays hot for a long while * Easy to clean machine and parts Only Con: * Drip Stop doesn't work overly well. It does temporarily stop the brew so you can pour a cup, but if you enable drip stop to pull out the basket, it will still dump water on the maker/counter.

Wow this coffee make is awesome! My wife and I used to have a Keurig, well we still have it, but no longer use it. My wife loves that it doesn't take up a lot of space in the kitchen and the sleek look. She and I both love how much better the coffee tastes compared to our old Keurig. It makes the coffee fairly quickly like a Keurig, but it tastes 10X better. It is not just quick and easy to prepare the coffee, but it is also very easy to clean. I like that it offers you different options to prepare your coffee. My wife has enjoyed the iced coffee option. Overall, you will not be disappointed with this Ninja coffee maker. If you are shopping around for a coffee maker, I would highly recommend this one.
