After buying two thermal carafe ninjas (dual brew pro) I was hoping this model would give me what I was looking for; a great cup of coffee. It also had all the features I was looking for. It does not give a rich brew so if flavor is important to you, I’d recommend you keep looking as I’m doing. It’s going back. My third ninja in 3 weeks, but I’ve got to be happy with the flavor.

Immediately returned back to store upon first use. Did not use the carafe option, but the single serve option explodes the KCup and leaves you with tons of grinds in your coffee every single time.. Tried troubleshooting and got the same results every time. Definitely a big design flaw and disappointment

I’ve been a big fan of Ninja products for several years so I was very excited to try the Ninja Dual Brew 12-Cup Coffee Maker, Single-Serve, K-Cup Coffee Pod, and Drip coffee maker. Ninja consistently designs innovative products and the Dual Brew quickly proved to be no exception. I have seen other coffee makers that offer k-cup and drip brewing but those machines have separate brewing stations, one for pods and one for drip. This makes for a larger footprint in order to accommodate both brewing stations. Not so with Ninja. The Dual Brew ingeniously incorporates both k-cup and drip brewing capabilities into a single brew station. This is accomplished by way of Ninja’s pod adapter that simply drops into the drip filter area when you want to brew via a pod and is removable when you want a carafe of drip coffee. Think of the Ninja Dual Brew as the Transformer of coffee makers. What fun! The unit is relatively tall so Ninja even though of incorporating a flip down platform for single serve brewing which elevates your mug to prevent splashing. In the box you find the coffee maker, manuals, some paper filters, and the carafe. The Dual brew is a stylish and well made coffee maker. The manual is detailed and concise. After a quick read and topping off the reservoir with water I was ready to try the Dual Brew. I immediately appreciated the size of the 60 ounce water reservoir. I have been a home k-cup coffee drinker for many years because of its simple convenience to easily switch between various roasts and flavors. So I figured I’d start my Dual Brew with a k-cup. One simply powers the unit on and pop a pod into the k-cup adapter. With the twist of a knob you select your brew size of 6, 8,10, or 12 ounces. You can also can chose between 3 brew styles of classic, rich, and over ice. After selecting a 12 once classic brew I hit the start brew button. I’ve owned many k-cup machines and they are generally slow. I was promptly impressed with the brew speed of the Dual Brew. It’s fast and brewed a great tasting cup of coffee. The triple needle design of the Dual Brew results in a fuller flavor brew since it fully saturates the coffee grounds within the k-cup. Also contributing to flavor is the high temp brew where temp is adjusted according to your coffee style. I was next excited to try the drip coffee function. While I enjoy a k-cup the Dual Brew offers flexibility when I know I’m going to have multiple cups or I have company and we are sharing a carafe of coffee. You simply remove the k-cup adapter and pop in a coffee filter. The Dual Brew includes a Ninja Smart scoop for your ground coffee. It conveniently is stored on the side of the Dual Brew. Once you fill your filter with grounds and slide the lid closed the brewing options switch from pod to drip. Here you can now select your the size of your desired drip brew from 9 ground brew sizes (Small Cup, Cup, XL Cup, Travel Mug, XL Travel Mug, ¼ Carafe, ½ Carafe, ¾ Carafe, or Full Carafe). I just love this size flexibility. I made a full carafe and the brew time was fast and the taste was fabulous. The adjustable warming plate keeps the coffee warm for up to 4 hours. Ninja has done it again by reinventing the dual brew pod and drip coffee maker that offers the impressive flexibility of a multitude of brew sizes. Buy it, you’ll love it.

I really wanted to love this brewer, it seemed to be perfect- but after making a few cups with pods there started to be grounds coming out of the top of the K-cup and getting into my coffee.

K-Cup and drip brew all in one

Needing a solution for using both K-Cups and the ability to brew drip coffee in larger batches, I decided to get the Ninja - Dual Brew 12-Cup Coffee Maker. This brewer is well engineered to meet those requirements by including a K-cup adapter which slides over the coffee ground mode filter enclosure. The K-Cup adapter has four needles, three which puncture the top, these seems to get the most out of the coffee contained in the K-Cup. Both the K-Cup adaptor and ground coffee ground holder (required to be installed for both brewing methods) should be removed for cleaning often, I would run a quick water rinse after using the K-cup adapter as I did notice some coffee grounds after each use on the needles used to puncture the top and bottom of the K-Cup. For coffee ground based brews the unit uses standard #4 cone coffee filters, I would think a permanent filter would be included, however that is a separate purchase and some people might actually prefer a paper type filter. I will say, read the manual to understand how to correctly use and convert the unit between K-Cup and regular ground brewing. Also, it makes sense to watch some of the instructional videos which are available online from Ninja or on YouTube. My daughter broke a small piece off the sliding lid, and it prevented the unit from sensing that the one of the covers was in the proper position to start the brewing process, I had to super glue the piece back on to be able to operate the unit. Which again reinforces the point it is not the simplest to operate and you must familiarize yourself with operating this coffee maker. As for brewing coffee, it does an awesome job with K-Cups, brewing a HOT cup of coffee quickly after pressing start. Brewing a full carafe from ground coffee takes about 10 minutes, equally hot. The brewer also has a warming element which has a visual indicator of when it is on (on the control panel) and when the element is still warm (near the front of the element). You can also set a timer to increment how long you want the element to keep the carafe warm from 0 to four hours. Another nice feature is the ability to use the closed/open lever to stop the drip of coffee onto the warming element (or temporarily stop mid brew to pour a cup of coffee from the carafe). You can also produce cold brews which reduces the water used by also half and drips into your full cup of ice which melts and dilutes the beverage to an appropriate strength. Overall, this unit is versatile with a few quirks and produces really good coffee. Again, I can’t stress how important it is to thoroughly read the manual for proper operational directions. Pros: - Dual brew feature (grounds and K-Cups) - Warming tray - Fold down tray for direct brew into cups - Large carafe and water reservoir - Flexibility, brew style settings for Classic, strong [rich] and cold brew. - Brewing progress LEDs - 9 ground brew sizes (Cup, Travel Mug, Carafe) of different ounces. - 4 Pod brew sizes (6oz-12oz) - Coffee ground scoop integrated into the side of the unit. Cons: - A bit complicated, familiarize yourself the modes and how operate it - LED (number display specifically is not dimmable, so if using this is the same room as you sleep you may be annoyed). - Permanent filter should be included, rather than a separate purchase item.

This coffee maker is very convenient if you switch between single-serve and full pots. Brew quality has been consistently good, and it heats quickly. Controls are intuitive, and cleanup is easy. Takes up a bit of space, but the versatility makes it worth it.

Makes coffee fast. Unfortunately when using the K cups, it is very common that the pod "explodes" and fills your cup with coffee grounds.

What more can I say. This really brews a great cup of coffee. Now I have tried both brewing with the filter basket as well as brewing with the pods. I personally never liked pod coffee and was hoping it would be different here but honestly, brewing with the pod just was not my taste. Tried it with both classic brew and rich and it just didn’t do it for me. I can’t blame the ninja for this. If anything, it was probably the pods I used. I prefer to have a pot of coffee made anyway and this is where this shines. We have brewed a few pots on classic brew and wow, each pot was better than the last. Also brewed over ice and once again, super cup of coffee. Like I said, I’m not a pod person so don’t take my advice on that, but do listen to my advice when it comes to traditional brewing. Really great coffee and I love this machine for it.

    Best K-cup brewer I've had

Been a K-Cup guy since they first came out almost 20 years ago and I’ve never had a machine (5 or 6 different ones over the years) that will brew a single cup unattended, by setting the timer. This one finally does. I’m an early riser and like to walk into the kitchen in the morning and have a cup waiting for me. Not a whole pot, just a cup. This machine finally does exactly that. I’ve had them where they warmed up the water but you still had to push a button and wait another 20-30 seconds for the cup. While that’s obviously, not a long time, there is just something like having one waiting for you. If I could give this review 10 stars just because of this, I certainly would. And even if I do forget to set the timer, it's still the fastest one I've had from turning on to having a cup finish brewing - by quite a bit. This is also the first machine I’ve had that has more than 1 tube that pokes into the top of the K-cup. This one has 3 and really helps spread the water throughout the whole cartridge and you can taste the difference. Very easy to set up and use. Simple, self explanatory buttons have everything ready to do what you want in no time. I rarely brew a whole pot of coffee as I’m just not home enough to require it. But I brewed a couple test pots to try it out and it is fast and tastes great. I prefer the “rich” setting for all my brews whether it be a single cup or the whole pot. Setting the brew type to “rich” from regular automatically changes the amount of a single cup from 10 to 11 ounces. Not sure what that’s all about but whatever it takes… This is great!!- Love it, Love it, Love it
