Unimpressive. Don't understand the hype

With all the hype surrounding air fryers we decided to give this a try. I knew I wanted a large one for our family as well as a good brand, so I chose this ninja model. Nothing has impressed us. People keep telling me to use it for fries and chicken nuggets for our kids, and neither have been crispy, more chewy than anything. I feel as though I get similar (and sometimes better) results in the oven!! That is only the first problem! There is an incredibly awful and unnatural smell that infiltrates the food that is cooked (as well as the kitchen). My kids can't stand the smell and have noticed it the most in the unimpressive fries we have cooked in the air fryer. Definitely thinking about taking this back unless a miracle happens.

It just died
