Posting this as a warning to other parents. The product works as described but according to the directions, you are to have the fry basket installed on top of a tray which causes the tray to slide out with the fry basket. When cooking dinner, I meant to only slide out the fry basket but the hot tray came with it falling and landing on my child’s hand causing second degree burns. I have since arranged the components of the oven differently so this can never happen again but don’t know why this setup is recommended in the owner’s manual in the first place.

A Solid Upgrade To The Toaster Oven

Ninja's Foodi Digital Air Fry Oven is the Instant Pot of toaster ovens - elevating a toaster oven to a device capable of many other tasks. Technically, it is a controllable convection oven with settings that toggle between top heat/bottom heat/combined heat (with temperature control) and between fast/medium/no fan speeds. They separate various combinations of these settings into these selections: air fry, air roast, air broil, bake, toast, bagel, and dehydration settings. Preheating is nearly instantaneous and the settings work extremely well. I was dumbfounded by the quality of the toast I was able to produce (I know that sounds stupid, but how's your toaster doing?) and my first foray into the air roasting setting (with a recipe from the included book - Honey Sriracha Lime Chicken Wings) came out beautifully (see picture). Ninja's big selling point here is the ability to make "sheet pan meals" - a simplified system of meal preparation where you choose a protein, a vegetable/starch, a seasoning/marinate, then mix and cook - their version of what is known as sheet pan dinners - but with less preheating and a shorter cooking time. The unit is gorgeous and feels solid and well constructed. I would have preferred an extra inch of height inside but there's plenty of room inside (and a good light!). One brilliant move was to mount the base of the oven in such a way that you can lift it up and store it vertically to save space (it takes up a LOT of space while in use). It comes with a wire rack, a sheet pan, and an air fry basket (and a removable crumb tray). You cay buy a 2" casserole dish, a broiler rack, and a 12-cup muffin tray separately - I really think they should have been included with the oven. And just like the Instant Pot is basically an electric pressure cooker with additional useful features, I would categorize the Foodi as a large format air fryer with additional useful features. But the additional useful features here are REALLY useful - this is an air fryer with all the standard features of a toaster oven. And it works simply and flawlessly.

    Low Profile Ninja Foodi Oven

There are many things that I really like about the Ninja Foodi Digital Air Fry Oven - SP101 model. First, this oven has the ability to do 7 different cooking functions such as air fry, air roast, air broil, bake, dehydrate, keep warm, and not only toast bread, but also use a bagel setting. Now, keep in mind that I only received this machine 5 days ago, but I have already used it to toast, bake, air broil, air fry, and keep warm. There is some finesse to using the controls and it is a trial and error process. For instance, I toasted 1 piece of bread and it was darker than I preferred, but you can teach the machine how you want it done, time and temp settings, and it will remember that and use it the next time you use the same setting. I like that this configuration came with the rack and 2 other accessories, namely the air fry and non-stick trays. There are numerous pamphlets (see attached) that have oven instructions, recipes, ways to organize and cook several items at one time to maximize time and use efficiencies, etc. An inducement to register this item is a 10% coupon for the purchase of additional accessories (see attached) through the Ninja website. Clearly, if I were interested in purchasing additional accessories, I would check to see who else might be selling them. Second, I really like the ability to get back some of my countertop real estate by standing It up on its side for storage (see attached picture). This machine is very digitally configured and it explicitly states by word and icon when it is hot because the outside surfaces do get hot with use and Ninja is mindful of safety with its use. Third, the ability to clean the crumbs from simply opening the bottom panel is smart (see attached picture). Fourth, the control panel is very user friendly and it is simply a learning process to figure out all the bells and whistles (see attached). I did think that the air broil gave exceptionally moist and tasty results, as well as, the bake and air fry. So, before receiving this oven, I was using a Cuisinart toaster/convection bake/broil oven. I suppose that Ninja had to make some accommodation in order to be able to make the unit streamline enough to do the under cabinet storage. I took the inside cavity dimensions of the Cuisinart and the Ninja. While the width and depth of both machines are comparable, the Ninja's height is 2 inches shorter than the Cuisinart's. This height difference, in my opinion, will affect the ability to cook certain things like a chicken, in tact, the way we would buy it at the grocery store. Once cooked, the food is tasty and moist, and while I think the price is okay, the buyer must consider if the height differential and its effect on cooking certain items is worth their countertop space regained due to the storage option.

The Ninja Foodi Air Fry Oven is a great multipurpose device that can air fry, roast, broil, bake, dehydrate and even toast! It includes a removable crumb tray, a wire wrack, a sheet pan, and an air fry basket. All of the items store inside the unit as to not take up additional space. My previous air fryer was a smaller, vertical design by Ninja that I found to be very noisy and inconvenient due to the small cooking area. The Foodi features a large interior accommodating a variety of foods. The 13”x13” interior provides ample space to spread out food allowing the Foodi to cooking more evenly than my previous air fryer. The internal clearance from the sheet pan to the top heating element is 3” giving you enough room for a majority of foods and proteins, just don’t plan on cramming in a Thanksgiving Turkey. The Foodi has a nice interface featuring a dial to select cooking modes or to adjust time and temperature after selecting either with the buttons. It is a breeze to operate and even features an internal light like you would find on larger, conventional ovens. I have used the roasting, air fry, bake, and toast modes so far with great success. I find it is more convenient to use over my larger oven due to it’s incredibly fast warm up and cook times. My favorite aspect of the Foodi is how quiet it is. The fan on other air fryers can sound like a jet engine, fortunately Ninja designed the Foodi with quiet fans that circulate the air without generating excessive noise. It remains to be seen if the fans will become louder overtime but it is night and day compared to other air fryers I have used. One feature that was a bit of a miss for me was the the flip up vertical storage position. I am pleased that Ninja incorporates vertical storage of the device as without it I wouldn’t have room in my cabinets. Ninja advertises flipping it up under the cabinets for countertop storage but in my case my cabinets are too low, and dial protrudes out too far and it won’t quite clear at 15” height. It is not a big deal for myself as I did not intend to store it on the countertop but it is worth mentioning for those who would and have low hanging cabinets. The Foodi Air Fryer Oven is the best air fryer I have used and is perfect for someone who is looking for a quiet countertop convection oven with an assortment of features and convenient vertical storage.

Had it for about a month now and absolutely love this thing!! Does exactly what it promises to do. I went in a little skeptical of the size, but especially when air frying, the single layer allows more surface area so it cooks evenly. And it heats up lightning fast. No more waiting 10 to 15 minutes for your standard oven to heat up to 350. It heats up to 400 in no time!! It’s almost like a microwave in that sense. The controls are easy to use but take a few turns you get used to them. We also love the flip up feature—totally not a gimmick. And oh by the way, with the back/bottom panel able to be opened it’s super easy to clean the whole thing inside and out. Really no downside so far. Totally recommend this product!!

Great Air Fryer that gets out of the way

I owned an air fryer before, but the basket design sometimes prevented the food on the bottom of the basket from becoming crispy. That doesn't appear to be an issue with the Ninja Foodi Digital Air Fry Oven as it uses a flat basket tray. ## Design Stands Up: One of my favorite features of this Air Fry Oven is the back that it folds up (or, "stands up on its back feet," if you will) which moves it out of the way and allows you to reclaim some valuable counter space. It's not perfect: if your outlet is directly behind the toaster oven, then you will need to unplug it in order for it to fold up against the wall (why didn't they use a flat outlet plug?). And if you unplug it, you need to make sure the plug doesn't end up directly behind the oven or it won't flip up. Flat Air Fry Basket: With a flat, tray-like basket, you can more evenly spread your food out and all of your food has more of a chance of being "fried" by the air blowing around. Pan: There is a pan that sits under the air fry basket to catch any grease or crumbs from your food. Oddly, there is no groove on the oven for this pan to slide into and there is not enough room for the pan to move independently of the air fry basket. Therefore, when you slide out the air fry basket, the pan comes with it. You need to be careful to grab both the basket and the pan or the hot pan (and any grease!) could end up falling on your foot. ## Performance Side Blower: The Ninja Foodi blows in warm air from the right side, which seems to work better than the top-down approach of my other air fryer. With the food spread out on the basket, hot air coming in from the side has a better chance of "crisping" up the food. Frozen Pierogies: My first test with the Ninja Foodi Digital Air Fry Oven was done by heating up frozen pierogies. Without adding any extra oil, the pierogies came out very crispy and the mashed potatoes on the inside were warm and gooey. Success! Leftover Chicken Fingers and Fries: My next test was reheating some refrigerated chicken fingers and fries that I bought at a local restaurant a few days beforehand. After about 15 minutes at 275 degrees, the fries came out very crispy and satisfying. The breading on the chicken fingers did not get quite as crispy as they were the day I bought them, but they still tasted much better than than they would have if heated in the microwave or a regular toaster oven. Another successful meal! ## Features Multiple Settings: In addition to air frying, the Ninja Foodi can also work as a tradition toaster oven and offers settings for baking, broiling and toasting. Dehydrator: There is also a setting specifically for dehydrating fruits and meats. Digital Temperature and Time: The digital display makes it easy to see the time and temperature. Simply press the "Time" button and then rotate the dial to set the time, then press the "Temp" button and rotate the dial to set the temperature. Press on the dial to start cooking. ## Summary Overall, the Ninja Foodi Digital Air Fry Oven is a versatile and effective air fryer that can also bake, broil, dehydrate and toast. The flat basket and side blower means more even crisping, and I love the fact that it flips up against the wall so it doesn't take up a lot of counter space.

This air fryer is so much nicer than our old basket version. I barely even use my oven now. In fact, the only time I do use my oven is if I need a bigger pan than what fits inside this thing. One thing I will recommend though is to get a liner for the mesh tray. Otherwise it gets dirty fast and is hard to clean if it is not cleaned every single use. My kids do not clean it every single use, so I had to replace my mesh tray for $30. I found a set of silicone mesh liners on Amazon for $13 and they work perfectly inside of a mesh tray that comes with this item. I wish I would have known about these liners in advance and it would have saved me $30 for a replacement tray.

Simply Put, an AMAZING Compact “Everything” Oven

First, I have so say, Ninja calls this a “digital air fry oven”…but, in truth, it is SOOOO much more. Not only can you air fry, you can bake, crisp (I’ll explain this one, later), roast, broil, dehydrate…and, yes, toast (had to mention this last, as there are already WAY too many “toaster ovens” on the market). To be honest, I haven’t yet had the opportunity to try every cooking option available…but, before the end of the year, I guarantee I will have. UNBOXING & INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: As anyone who’s read my reviews knows, I’m a big proponent of “environmentally-friendly packaging”. So, in the case of Ninja’s Foodi , it’s a BIG fail. Sorry Ninja. The product box had the air fry oven held in place by two giant pieces of molded Styrofoam, and only two (relatively small) pieces of cardboard. Adding insult to injury, the product box was inside of another box, which had both ends, as well as the top & bottom, lined with large, and thick “sheets” of Styrofoam (and, no, that wasn’t the shipping box, as that box was inside of a larger (ie. shipping) box, which, thankfully, used Air-Pak to hold the ‘middle’ box in place. Thankfully, that was the end of my dislike…everything moving forward is just better, and better, and better (if you’ve got the point already, stop reading, and just go buy it)…well, almost (there is one other “complaint”, which I’ll also get to). The Air Fry Oven, itself, as well as the included “accessories”, were well-packed, and well-protected. The three cooking trays, as well as the “crumb catcher” tray, were each covered/wrapped, as was the top of the Air Fry Oven. Speaking of accessories, not all available accessories are included (what? you expected them to be? get real), but that’s expected. Included is the standard bake rack, the air fry rack, and the sheet pan. SETUP: There’s not much to say here – clear some counter space, set the oven where you want it, and plug it in. oh, yea, almost forgot. First, make sure you wash the 4 pans before use. Also, in placing the oven on the counter, be sure to leave enough space behind the oven, for flipping it into its “storage” position (also explained, later). Next, slide the ‘crumb catcher’ into place, and (essentially), you’re all set. USE: Starting with the controls, it doesn’t get any easier – there’s 4 buttons (time/slice, temp/darkness, light on/off, & power), and a dial/button (multi-function). Preset cooking functions include air fry, air roast, air broil, bake, toast, bagel (honestly, I still don’t get the difference between “bagel” & “toast”, but, then again, I haven’t tried either function…yet), dehydrate, & ‘keep warm’. Let’s start with everyone’s favorite “nightmare”…left over French fries. As everyone knows, you NEVER want to put them in the microwave, as you end up with “French fry-shaped mashed potatoes”. Of course, you can spread them onto a cookie sheet, heat your full-size oven, wait for it to pre-heat, and then wait some more while the oven does its job…while heating up hour house (NOT good during the summer). Here’s a better/smarter/faster idea…use the Ninja Foodi Air Fry Oven (and air fry basket)…from “fridge” to “in your stomach” in approx 10 minutes. Like tater tots…do them the same way (although they’ll take slightly longer coming from the freezer). What about pizza? Place the pizza on the bake rack, set your temp, and cut lower the cooking time (you’ll want to keep an eye on it the first few times, to get your timing right). Although I haven’t tried it yet, you can even dehydrate fruit. Who needs a separate appliance (ie. stand-alone dehydrator), when the Ninja Foodi Air Fry Oven can serve the purpose of multiple appliances. Earlier, I mentioned you can “crisp”. What I mean by that is, say, you have leftover pizza (especially pizza from PizzaMyHeart, and, to a greater extent, their “Super Veggie” pizza). Typically, the bottom (especially towards the center of the pizza) gets soggy. Place those slices on the rack, and they’ll “crisp” right up. Getting back to those accessories, in addition to the included accessories, Ninja also offers a 2” deep casserole dish, a muffin pan (bakes 12 muffins), a broil rack (this fits inside the sheet pan), and a magnetic cutting board. Ok, so I’m guessing you’re wondering, “Whay a cutting board?” remember my “well, almost” comment in the ‘Unboxing & Initial Impressions’ section? The thing is, the Air Fry Oven is a SERIOUS “body oil &fingerprint-magnet”. The magnetic cutting board sticks to the top of the oven, which is one location you are certain to leave oil/fingerprints. One of the great things about the Air Fry Oven is that it doesn’t need to remain in the “usable” position on your counter. The back “legs” are actually a rotating piece, which allows you to flip the Air Fry Oven into an upright position, taking up less counter space. To raise & lower the oven into “cooking” position, there are handles on each side. However, you will often find yourself starting that lowering movement by pulling forward/down along the top, near the center. By placing the magnetic cutting board into position, you’d be touching the front edge of the cutting board, as opposed to the top of the oven’s stainless steel (at least I’m assuming its stainless steel). ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: As great as this thing is, there was bound to be some “negatives”. First, there’s the aforementioned oil/fingerprint matter. Second, while the manual informs you to NOT use metal cooking utensils, I would also suggest NOT using anything but a soft sponge in washing the sheet pan, as the non-stick surface scratches very easily. Even the “non-scratching” pads might leave minor scratches in the pan. That being said, cleaning the oven (inside & out) is extremely easy. For the inside, as well as the outside, a sponge with soap & water…that’s it. They’ve even integrated a simple button along the bottom for accessing the bottom of the inside. Simply remove the ‘crumb catcher’, flip the oven into the “storage” position, press the button, and gently lower the bottom of the oven (do NOT remove the rubber gasket…there’s even an engraved message telling you this). THE GOOD: • Your “everything” countertop coking appliance (why waste valuable electricity, or natural gas, using your full-size oven, if you only need a small cooking area…say, and additional 2” of interior height • 1800 Watts of cooking power • Easy to clean • Flip-up storage – takes up less day-to-day counter space THE BAD: • Exterior is an oil/fingerprint “magnet” • Power cord could be longer, as not everyone will have an outlet less than 2ft from where they want to place the oven • They should have included the broil rack • Interior dimensions – while the width & depth are more than acceptable, the height should have been taller THE UGLE: • Nothing…honestly, NOTHING FINAL VERDICT: If you haven’t gotten the impression that I REALLY like this, then, go back to the beginning of my review, and read it again. My wife & I have been wanting a “toaster oven” for sometime now. As we don’t have air conditioning, the summer weather causes the inside of our condo to become like a sauna, and we end up eating out more frequently, as we don’t want to use the stove, or oven. As I said earlier, this is SOOOO much more than just a “toaster oven”. While the interior isn’t as tall as I’d like it to be, it’s still more than adequate to fulfill the great majority of our cooking needs. 49 out of 50 times, it’s just the two of us…we don’t throw ‘dinner parties’, and, when we get together with others, it’s (pretty-much) always at a restaurant. Where a full-size oven might increase the house’s temp by 10-20 degrees, the Ninja Air Fry Oven barely increases it at all (for the three times I’ve used it…again, so far…I didn’t even notice any household temp increase. If I could give this a 6-star rating, I would. I rarely give 5-star ratings (because I’m a believer in “there’s always room for improvement”), so, when I do give a 5-star rating, you know it’s a product that truly deserves it. Thus, when I say “this deserves a 6-star rating”, you know this is something ‘special’…and, in the case of the Ninja Foodi Air Fry Oven, it is. My only “complaint” is that they didn’t come out with this 3-4 years ago, when my wife & I moved in together into this condo without air conditioning. Ok…now…quit reading, and purchase this thing – you will NOT be disappointed. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

I love the way it cooks the food! It's quick and minimal clean up is a plus! I also love the fact that I can fold it up to maximize my countertop space! It's a little more expensive than other bigger size air fryers but it makes up for the lack of size by the way it cooks your food and it's compact size which folds up for easy cleaning and storage! You can't go wrong with this fryer if you live in a small house or apartment!

Ninja Foodi air fryer: overpriced toaster oven

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This air fryer is not tall enough. When toasted a sandwich in it, it burned it quickly because it is too close to the heating elements on the top. You have to watch it very closely. I cooked chicken wings in the screen basket that came with it, as they show in their video. The grease dripped all over the heating elements on the bottom and made a mess. Because the heating element is so close to the chicken wings, the air fryer started smoking from the inside, and I had to open windows and our door to clear it out. The smell was there for 2 days. You need oven mitts to take the food out, because whatever you cook it in gets so hot. And good luck not making a mess through the screen once you put the wings down on the counter or stove. Cleaning this is not an easy task like our previous air fryer where you could put it in the dishwasher. The screen is a pain to clean easily, then there is a drip tray that does catch most of the drippings, you also need to wipe down the rest of the inside of the air fryer and especially the window, otherwise it will smoke the next time it is used. The flip away feature is nice, although if you have any crumbs left in it, they fall to the back of the air fryer, and do not stay on the drip tray. You also need to keep it an extra 3 inches or so from the wall to flip it upright. If you're trying to save on space, you'll need extra room for the screen basket and the "cookie sheet" that are kept inside unless in use. Overall, this is an overpriced toaster oven that is too small and difficult to keep clean that it's not worth it. We have ordered a traditional style air fryer that is similar to the one we had prior to this Ninja Foodi, and expect to be happy using it the way we used out old air fryer.

So far so good! I’ve used all settings except for the “Bake” setting. It’s awesome! Heats up fast, does everything fast really. I don’t suggest cooking bacon. I did and it was messy to clean up. I practically had to clean the entire unit. I also noticed the bacon grease jumped to the heating/cooking lights and obviously I couldn’t take it all out afraid I would break them. I love the fact it stands when not in use. Few suggestions: 1-Have all your ingredients and items to be cooked easy to go 2-have patience learning how fast it does things, timing was a learning curve to figure out 3-the mesh tray gets pretty dirty with everything you cook. I found the best way to clean it is to soak it and have a brush to clean it throughly 4-I have permanently cover the solid tray with either aluminum foil or parchment paper. It helps to keep it clean 5- with kids in the house, I put an oven mitt in front of it to let my kids know it’s hot...NOT TO TOUCH!

I've had a number of toaster ovens in the past, they all accomplish essentially the same thing without being really innovative. Things changed a bit with this one. First and probably most noticeable off the bat is the size. It's very very slim, and more than that, it's designed to flip upward when not in use. Since most toaster ovens are bulky and take up a lot of counterspace, this is great, it allows us to keep the majority of the counterspace it would usually take up available unless we're using it, and without sacrificing size like one of the ones that would attach to the underside of a cabinet. Using it is extremely straightforward, it has a single dial where you select your function, then push to start. It stays silent until the cooling fan kicks on, which is still also very quiet. When finished, the fan stays running until the unit is cooled off (which was remarkably fast actually) so you can flip it up out of the way again. I've used it to toast and air fry at this point. It does each thing with ease and without complication. The air frying capability, which we've tried with some chicken wings, works well and it is nice that it doesn't require oil. The basket is a little shallow so don't expect to be doing huge batches, but it's to be expected from an appliance this size. Overall I'm extremely happy with it. I'd easily recommend this to anyone in the market for a toaster oven or air fryer that doesn't want a bulky appliance.

I live in an apartment and have a galley kitchen, so countertop space is a premium. As an air fryer alone, this works just as well as any other air fryer. Its all-in-one approach makes it a kitchen utility knife that replaces other appliances. The ability to fold it away saves a lot of counter space that you need to perform other kitchen tasks. Cleaning is fine, but I reccomend you use the drip tray as instructed and that you invest in baking paper to keep messes to a minimum. Getting inside is a pain.

I will admit that I got a cookbook emphasizing recipes for this type of oven. I will also admit buying additional pans direct from their site. This little oven can do anything your main oven can (within size limitations of course) and use far less power. You only need to prep your food BEFORE turning on as it preheats in a snap. I now usually have 2 or 3 meals prepped in the frig- ready to put in this oven to cook (thanks to the cookbook). Recommend buying some parchment paper for all your baking as it works amazingly well in this oven. And the fold up feature- definitely a counter saver if your cabinets are high enough. And it is a snap to clean- anyone having issues cleaning this probably has issues wiping a countertop or mopping a floor... it's that easy and IN the instructions. Worth It.

We finally switched from a toaster oven to this 8 in 1 air fryer. I wanted one that didn't look bulky on the counter. The stand up feature on this is perfect! It's easy to flip up after use and looks clean and neat on the counter. Toasted perfect bagels, bread and garlic toast. The air fried foods have been crisp and cook fast with just a little oil spray. We've tried homemade fries, chicken wings, breaded tenders and boneless chicken breast with great results. Easy to clean and not messy after frying like I thought it would be! The kids say frozen foods, pizza rolls, bagged fries and tenders come out fast and crispy. We're a family of 6 and the tray has plenty of room for larger portions to cook at once. Very happy with this purchase.

Great countertop air fryer with a range of features and easy to clean. Different fry/oven/toast options make this the goto device for snacks and for reheating foods. Easy to use controls, quick warm up and easy cleaning make this a household favorite.

This Ninja SP101 Foodi was recently purchased at BB. Read many reviews on this unit, and I was initially not sure it would be a "keeper". Tried cooking breaded chicken cutlets... cooked quickly, no smoke (as some complained about), chicken came out juicy and crispy. Next was homemade sweet potato and regular fries. Results were very tasty, and easy. Air roasted Asparagus that were brushed with Olive Oil, sprinkled with garlic, salt, and grated cheese.....outstanding. Also does a great job on English muffins. Unit is easy to clean, and the ability to flip it up for storage is a nice feature. All in all, very satisfied with this unit, and also with Best Buys price match.
