Good, but not perfect, for frozen drinks

GOOD - Reasonably quiet - Comes with recipe/idea book - Simple to clean BAD - Doesn't give much information on low-sugar/fat recipes - Prone to icing up with smaller batches - Ice gets stuck in front of paddle - Heavy and takes up lots of counter space The SLUSHi does exactly what it claims: makes frozen drinks, and does so fairly well. It can be as simple as pouring in soft drinks hitting one button. It also comes with a pretty good recipe/idea book to make more complicated slush drinks. The preset buttons cover pretty much any kind of frozen drink you may want to make, and you can use the manual override to make it colder or not, should you choose. It certainly isn't a silent machine, but I didn't find it terribly loud. It's similar to a stand-mixer on low. Cleanup isn't too bad as it's quick to rinse out and fully cleaning the tank and refrigeration cylinder takes about 5 minutes. My biggest complaint about it is the instruction/recipe book doesn't have much info on low fat or low sugar recipes. You can't simply use a diet beverage with only artificial sweeteners because then the mixture freezes too quickly and you end up with ice chunks instead of smooth slush ( or the machine just ices over ). Sugars and fats in the beverage lower the freezing point so the mixture freezes at a desirable rate. The only info you get in the book is that a minimum of 1g sugar to 1oz of liquid is required. However, even that amount seems too low for a lot of things I've tried, and the machine still ices up. If you want lower calorie slushes, you'll have to do a lot of experimentation. The machine lists a maximum capacity of 64oz, and you tend to get best results when using large batches. A minimum of 16oz is required, though I've found it more prone to icing up around the cooling cylinder with small batches, even when using official recipes. The front of the helix paddle also has a hollow between the blades where ice tends to gather, making it hard to get all the slush out of the tank and into a glass. Other considerations are that this is a large and heavy machine, so it takes up quite a bit or counter space and isn't the easiest to move to storage. But if you're someone who really likes frozen drinks and doesn't mind paying for a specialty kitchen appliance, the SLUSHi mostly delivers on its promises.

    Too Slow

The output it gives you is average at best but the reason I didn't like it is it takes FOREVER. You come in from outside hot and think a slush would taste great and cool you off but you have to wait 30 minutes for it to get the slightest bit slushy and if you want a milkshake that will be easily 45 minutes. It's not easy to clean either. I'll be returning it.

This product is not worth the hype. Got it, did a couple of things with it and there was always liquid outside under the container where there slush is made. I ensured the container was locked in placed and still liquid leaked out. I had to return this item, again, it was not worth the hype.

I've been wanting a frozen drink machine for quite some time but most were one trick ponies and way too costly. I have a number of Ninja products, ok a lot!, and I have never been disappointed. I am happy to say the streak continues. The Slushi drink maker meets and exceeds my expectations. Let's start with the fact it is a stylish machine that doesn't take up the space of some of the others I looked at. Second, it is very easy to operate with a number of built in functions so it make it kind of a no-brainer to operate. One of the beauties of this machine that makes it head and shoulders above the others is that you do not have to add ice to make your frozen drinks. Add your mixture and the machine does the rest. No watered down drinks from adding a ton of ice! It comes with a recipe book that is an excellent starting point. I started simple to get the feel for things with a soda slush. A couple cans of soda and roughly 20 minutes later I had a soda slushie that the kids loved. Next up was something more for adults. Using the book, tried the frozen mai tai and yep it's a winner! Following the guide and came out perfect. After everything cleanup wasn't bad. I did had wash everything just to be on the safe side but was quick and easy. If you do a lot of entertaining and want to provide your guests with a variety of drinks, it would be worth having more than one of these machines.

This machine allows you to create any kind of frozen drink you can of, and the instruction booklet has recipes for all of them. Recipes include alcoholic drinks, soda pop, fruit juice drinks, milkshakes, and coffee drinks. A minimum amount of sugar is required for all drinks, so you couldn't, for example make a diet soda slush. There is also a maximum amount of alcohol, (16% of the total volume) to make a frozen alcohol drink. The time required to make frozen drinks depends on the type of drink and the amount being prepared. The minimum batch size for any drink is 16oz and the maximum is 64oz. The times can be as little as 10 minutes for a 2-3 serving batch of cranberry lime slush, or up to 60 minutes for 6-8 servings of a frozen mimosa. I made a 4-6 serving batch of frozen margaritas and it took 45 minutes to reach the frozen slush stage. I found the machine to be easy to operate and easy to clean. It's made very user friendly, there's no temperature or time controls, just five presets - Slush, Spiked Slush, Frappe, Milkshake, Frozen Juice. Although they're pretty much self-explanatory, each recipe in the book tells you which preset to use. To clean is a breeze. Just pull the release handle and the vessel with the spout slides off as does the auger, and the drip tray is detachable, making everything easy to clean and reassemble. The machine is good quality with heavy gauge plastics, definitely not like a child's toy, and I expect I should get many years of use from it.

I was super excited to get my hands on the new Ninja Slushi machine, and while it’s definitely a cool gadget, it’s got its quirks that hold it back from being a total win. The good: Great Slushies: When it works, the slushies are amazing! The texture is spot-on, and you can whip up delicious frozen drinks in no time. Perfect for hot summer days or a chill movie night. Easy to Use: The setup is pretty straightforward. Just add your ingredients and your water if needed, hit the appropriate freeze level button, and you’re good to go. Cleanup is a breeze too, which is always a plus. Everything can be taken apart and washed individually, but there's also a rince funciton that works pretty well too. Versatile: You can make all kinds of drinks—frozen lemonades, smoothies, and yes, even slushies...as long as it has a certain amount of sugar. The sugar acts as a sort of "anti-freeze", preventing it from freezing into a big block, to give it that nice slushie texture. The bad: Alcoholic Drinks were hit and miss...mostly miss for me: Here’s where it gets tricky. If you’re hoping to make some slushies with alcohol, be prepared for disappointment. The machine just doesn’t handle them well, and I found it tough to get a good consistency. It seems to struggle even when staying within the alcohol limits. I tried using premade mixes which are well within the % limits stated in the manual, and even then I found myself constantly needing to add water. And even when I did finally get a frozen consistency, it wasn't throughout the entire drink. It was like the center of the drink was frozen and the outside 20% or so was still very much liquid. Constantly Shutting Off: This has been super frustrating. The machine has a habit of shutting off unexpectedly, even when it’s not overloaded. It seems to get confused and just stops working. I've had to restart it multiple times during a single slushi session, which is super frustrating. Limited Capacity: If you’re planning a party, keep in mind that the bowl doesn’t hold a ton of mix. It’s perfect for a couple of servings, but you might find yourself refilling it often. You also can't just make a single drink very easily. There is a minimum amount of 16oz, and it really needs to stay above that level to mix well. Overall: The Ninja Slushi machine has the potential to be a blast, especially for non-alcoholic drinks. But the issues with making slushies that include alcohol and the constant shutting off are definite dealbreakers for me. If you’re just looking to make classic slushies, it could be a fun addition to your kitchen, but don’t expect it to handle everything you throw at it. It’s fun, but definitely has room for improvement!

    Party Style Slushy

The Ninja Slushi, a small kitchen appliance, is designed to create a variety of delicious frozen beverages at home. Its large capacity (64 oz) allows you to make a large batch of slushies at once. Ninja Slushi has a powerful motor that helps make it great for frozen drinks and cocktails in minutes. The five presets, Slush, Spiked Slush, Milkshake, Frappes, and Frozen Juice, use RapidChill Technology to determine the perfect temperature for the ideal frozen drink. Ice is never needed with this machine. In addition to slushies, Ninja products are known for their durability, and the Slushi maker follows that trend, offering consistent performance. The noise from the powerful motor is noticeable but not disruptive in a quiet setting. The aesthetics of the Ninja Slushi are appealing. The Ninja Slushi colors and design are pleasantly elegant. While the quality justifies the price, it might only fit some budgets. The Ninja Slushi is perfect for people who love making frozen drinks at home and want the versatility of a machine that can handle more than just slushies. It’s great for families, party hosts, or anyone looking to make quick, customizable frozen beverages. It’s also a good option for those who enjoy experimenting with different flavor combinations and textures.  I experimented with a Coke slushy, a spiked mango slushy, and even a chocolate milkshake.  The preset controls for the frozen drinks I just mentioned worked flawlessly.  The thickness and the texture of the drinks poured from the Ninja Slushi were consistent throughout and compatible with a slushy from a restaurant or bar.  I also experimented with a mango margarita wine cocktail with 13.9% alcohol. The Ninja Slushi chilled the mango margarita wine cocktail but did not freeze it. I tried it a couple of times by adding sugar and water to the margarita wine, but it did not get to a slushy consistency. The margarita wine I used had little sugar. This Ninja Slushi can not make slushy drinks without sugar, either in the liquid mix or by adding granulated sugar. This may pose a problem for consumers who have to limit their sugar intake. I also experimented with operating the Ninja Slushi on the deck of my outdoor pool. Because of the warm weather, the Ninja Slushi did not create slush drinks. The Ninja Slushi has to be in an indoor setting to make slush drinks consistently. Cleaning the Ninja Slushi was a breeze.   After finishing the frozen drinks, I rinsed the clear plastic container by pouring hot water and pressing the rinse control button.  After a few minutes, I stopped the motor to turn off the Ninja Slushi. I removed the plastic container, blade, and condensation catch. I washed them with mild soap and water and towel-dried all the parts.  I would not recommend placing the Ninja Slushi parts in a dishwasher. The heating cycle in the dishwasher might cloud the clear plastic container. The Ninja Slushi is a solid choice if you’re looking for a reliable, easy-to-use machine that can handle multiple frozen drink tasks.  It deserves a place on your countertop.

This was a perfect purchase for our family. We love slushies and Italian ice so having our own slushie maker at home is perfect. We also plan to use it for parties. Unboxing Read the directions. On the top of the box it tells you to pull up. Do that. You may think it’s awkward or maybe it’s written wrong but it’s not. Lift up and it’s easily out of the box just like that. It arrived mostly put together. Just a drip catcher to put in place. Cleaning Easy peesey. There’s only a few parts and washing is easy. We prefer to hand wash it but it is dishwasher-safe. You just can’t let it go through the heat cycle but you can clean it in the dishwasher. There is a rinse cycle on the slushie maker when does a great job doing an initial rinse. With the chocolate shake it was thicker and required a few rinse cycles but it goes quickly. I had really thought that it would be more time consuming than it was to clean Time You do have to let it sit upright for 2 hours before first use so plan accordingly. It takes a little bit of time to generate the slushie or milkshake so plan asked. For instance, a milkshake for 4-6 people to about an hour. The recipe guide offers great ideas and sets relatively accurate timelines. Options There are a lot of great options. Recipes included. Some are kid-friendly and some are adult-friendly. You have slushies, shakes, frappes. Just depends on the occasion and what you feel like. Our first was a milkshake and it tasted a lot like a frosty to us. It was tasty. We look forward to trying out some of the other recipes and our own. The instructions offer details on when and how much sugar or alcohol to add to ensure the machine functions properly and you get the desired results. Overall, we love it. It’s fun for the kids to get involved with mixing ingredients before we pour it in and then dispensing their own shake. A tasty, fun experience for the whole family.

Shark Slushi: Frozen Treats At Home!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

When it comes to specialized appliances, it can be rather challenging to determine if it can perform to your specific needs without purchasing said unit. In addition, there are some intricate aspects of products that do not show up on the specifications, such as recipe texture or if certain liquids work better than others, so naturally there some unforeseen risk that must be taken into account. Nevertheless, with the recent announcement of the Shark Slushi (Model: FS301), the ability to make your own frozen drinks/treats at home certainly provides exciting possibilities for you to enjoy or entice guests at gatherings. As a previous owner of several Shark kitchen appliances, I was quite excited to test the brand new addition to the Shark family. For those of you who have had previous Shark appliances before, you should feel right at home. In the box, you will find a recipe guide, quick tips guide and the main manual. In addition, the Slushi comes in five main parts: the main base, vessel, auger, a drip tray (stored on the left side of the base), and the evaporator. As with other Shark appliances, the assembly/disassembly is quite simple: everything slides into place as with ease, but it should be preinstalled when you receive it. Before for first use, you will need to at least have the unit unboxed and stored on the cabinet for two hours so the coolant will have time to level. Additionally, all the parts (except the base) will need to be hand washed and rinsed before you begin. Lastly, before you start your first few recipes, it is recommended that all of your ingredients are chilled thoroughly. I would also recommend you chill some cups as that will assist your drinks in lasting after dispensing. After you prepared the Slushi and are ready to go, you will note that the unit has five main presets: Slushi, Spiked Slush (alcohol content), Frappe, Milkshake, and Frozen Juice. In addition, each preset differs with respect to its temperature setting; however, you can also manually override the temperature to suit your needs. Supplemental to the presets, you will also need to pay attention to the sugar and alcohol content of your recipes; drinks need to at least contain 4% sugar (8g or more for 8 oz; 18g for 20oz). You should not have an issue with most of the fruit based drinks. Sugar substitutes are not recommended. For alcohol content, the drink needs to be between 2.8% to 16% (i.e. for 3 cups of liquid, max ½ cups of alcohol). I recommend for you to review the charts found within the recipe book. The Slushi will alert you if any of these requirements are not met. Lastly, keep in mind that this machine will only process liquid: you cannot put any solids inside this machine such as ice, fruit, vegetables, or ice cream. Also, do not use hot ingredients. For my tests, I wanted to use two different modes (slush and milkshake) to see how the machine will process different liquids. As such, all of my test ingredients were chilled overnight. I first began with the Slush setting and decided to use 6 cups (4-6 servings) of Hawaiian Punch; pressing the Slush preset set the temperature gage to illuminate three flashing bars. As the unit begin to turn, the process was quite exciting to see. For noise, the machine was not too loud; early on I did notice a slightly higher pitch noise, but it quickly subsided the longer machine was on. Once the Slushi is done, the machine will beep at you and the temperature gage will illuminate its respective level with solid LEDs. Once dispensing our drink, the consistency was fairly good, but certainly improved with our chilled cups. The slush also dispensed fairly well. Connectively, I was quite impressed with the flavor. It still tasted like it did before, but just slightly less sweet. It was quite refreshing! I would also like to note that since people will differ in their sugar preference, keep in mind that all the recipes will be less sweet than they were prior to freezing. For us, the Hawaiian Punch was perfect, but you may have to adjust accordingly if you are creating your own or modifying an included recipe. Overall, the slush results were really good and tasted great! As for my second test, I wanted to shift to using the Milkshake preset. Using the Vanilla Milkshake recipe, we first decided to do the smallest serving first (2-3 servings) as we weren’t sure how it would turn out. For our ingredients, we used Horizon Organic Milk and Heavy Cream and mixed everything in a large bowl; tasting it right before pouring it into vessel, we were surprised that it tasted really good. It was definitely sweet enough. Once we started the Slushi, the Milkshake preset defaults to 5 bars on the temperature gage. After roughly 30-40 minutes, for some reason, the machine beeped to signal it was finished, but the temperature gage was only lit for 3 bars instead of the original preset of 5. Accordingly, I went ahead and manually adjusted the temperature control back to 5, but it just would not hold at its specific default temperature level. Since the serving was small, I assumed that since the liquid was pushed up closer to the front, there wasn’t enough liquid to get a consistent temperature so the sensor was off. Nonetheless, we went ahead and dispensed what we had at a level 4 into our frozen cups. As for flavor, the milkshake was quite tasty, though it wasn’t thick. The consistency and texture was a bit lumpy, but improved in our chilled glass cups. As for my temperature issue, I decided to redo the recipe but increased it to the 4-6 serving. Once we filled up the vessel, I was quite shocked to see that it was just slightly under the max fill line; naturally, the volume will increase as liquid begins to chill so it still had room to operate. As for my temperature issue as noted before, this time the Slushi beeped at its appropriate level and held the 5 bars for a few minutes, only to back off again as it dropped down to 4. I fiddled with it manually a few more times; setting it up to 7 at one point thinking that it would drop to 5 but to no avail. My last attempt actually did reach the appropriate correct level and held it for a few minutes, but unfortunately it dropped back down to 4. Nonetheless, I am not sure what exactly occurred, and while I would hope it’s just an isolated issue, it is certainly possible that it could be default behavior for this preset since you would still need the milkshake to flow to facilitate dispensing. As for the second milkshake, the texture was a bit better but it still had a lumpy texture to it as before. Overall, if you are expecting thick milkshakes, you will be disappointed, though the vanilla recipe did taste really good. However, your results might be better than what I observed here. As for cleanup, the Slushi is pretty straightforward. After you have dispensed all of your liquid, you can then fill the unit with hot water to the max line and press the rinse setting. You will need to have a large bowl to capture all the water. We went ahead repeated this about 3 times and then disassembled the unit to hand wash the components. In addition, I also recommend that once you clean and dry all the parts to leave them out overnight to air dry so that the scents from your drinks have a chance to dissipate. After our milkshake, we could still smell the vanilla just slightly but was gone the next day. In conclusion, the Shark Slushi is an exciting product that I think is worth a look. It certainly has a lot going for it and has the opportunity to provide endless drink possibilities. In addition, the fruit slush we created was quite exceptional and we cannot wait to come up with our own recipes. As for the milkshake, while we were happy with the included recipe, the results were a little disappointing as we were assuming it would be a thicker milkshake. Granted, we can certainly experiment with other recipes so results may improve here. I would just caution you to keep your expectations within reason since the Slushi seems to be mainly designed for slushes and/or alcoholic beverages to be enjoyed at home as opposed to milkshakes. With that said, I think most will be extremely excited with the Slushi. Thus, the Slushi comes recommended.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Ninja SLUSHi Frozen Drink Maker. I had a hard time believing that a $300 machine could make a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic slushes. I was pleasantly surprised as I made a number of frozen drinks. Using the included recipe book, I made basic frozen root beer. Just poured it into the machine and 20 or so minutes later, a nice refreshing frozen drink. Then I moved on to frose. After adding the ingredients, selecting the correct setting, and waiting for 30 mins or so, we had a wonderful tasting alcoholic beverage. Easy peasy! I did encounter a little bit of an issue making a frozen coffee drink (following the recipe). The mixture froze thick to the chiller and the paddle was unable to scrape it off. The machine made a weird sound and wiggles some, but turning the machine off, waiting a minute, and turning it back on seemed to allow the mix to thaw just enough to work. Cleaning is relatively easy as you pour warm water into the machine and select the clean cycle. Warning though as when you pull the handle to release the water, it comes out fast! Can easily make a mess if not ready. Then just hand wash a few parts and you are good to go again. Only a few issues with the machine so far. First, it’s better to make the largest amount possible for the best result. Making a half batch of slush struggles as the machine is unable to “push” the slush through the spout when the handle is pulled. Seems there is not enough force on the slush from the paddle to push it out. You end up with slush left in the machine. Secondly, although following the cleaning instructions, the tank easily discolors with certain liquids. Although just cosmetic, disappointing for a $300 machine. And lastly, there are some very small nooks and crannies in the tank where mold seems to grow. In reaching this problem, it seems a number of owners are experiencing the same issues. A water pick seems to help blast the nasty out, but again, being able to more easily clean the tank is expected on an appliance this costly. Overall though, the Ninja SLUSHi is a great machine to create some wonderful frozen drinks that kids, and adults, will enjoy!
