It's easy to use and you need only make contact with a controller for a few seconds so that's nice. My only complaint is the quality of the figure is a little less than expected.

You can not. It's basically training mechanism you use to fight against you personal mii or another fighter in the game so they get stringer and develop their skills.

Can't quite see the point yet ...

You can't play as the character you are leveling up in Smash Bros ... it can fight along side you, but not be controlled by you. I think Nintendo has a neat idea and I will be interested to see where they go with it, but I can't recommend them if you expect a Skylander's type experience with the Amiibos at the moment.
