The Blendmax Duo has an enormous amount of power for such a small device. I have had no trouble liquefying fruits and veggies or crushing ice with this blender. The machine is incredibly sturdy, and I'm sure that it will last for years to come. The suction cups on the base are STRONG. The first time I peeled it off my counter, I was afraid that I was going to pull my countertop right off my cabinets. Whatever you do, make sure that you store this somewhere easily accessible. Otherwise, you will have a devil of a time trying to pry it free. My only real complaint about this device is the noise. This thing is LOUD. I gather this is because of how powerful the motor is. You aren't going to be making any smoothies in the dead of night with this (unless you want to wake your entire household and neighbors). That being said, its excellent performance strongly outweighs this drawback. I've been using this for lunchtime smoothies for a little while now, and I have to say that I'm very pleased with its performance. I would definitely recommend this blender.

This Ninja blender is a beast - far more heavy duty than regular old blenders. I thought my old Oster Fusion blender was pretty good - and it was/is - but I never could chop ice or make smoothies with it. The Ninja does that with more than twice the power and a great blade system and I don't worry about destroying it in the process. The best thing about this is that you get 3 blender containers with it - the big 72oz pitcher and a couple of smoothie or soup cups. So far, I've blended vegetables for soup, used the smaller one for crushed ice for gazpacho, made smoothies of all sorts (it even does celery and tough collards), made cheesecake filling, pulverized tomatoes and roasted chiles for a smooth red sauce, and made baba ganoush and hummus. Probably more but I can't remember it all! I don't drink mixed drinks like margaritas but I'd imagine it is ideal for that kind of thing because it does ice so well. It is pretty noisy but I haven't seen one at this wattage that isn't. It's pretty heavy too, but again, it has power so it needs to be stable. I don't think it is as hard to clean as my Oster. + powerful + great ice crusher + multiple containers of great quality + presets for smoothies and other tasty beverages - loud - may be hard to manage if you have arthritis
