I like what it is capable of but wifi is not stabl

It works great when it stays connected. I have fiber into my house, a gigabit router and AC 1750 wifi extender. The Shield TV unit is about 10 feet from the extender and the extender is 75 feet from the router. I also have another brand streaming box in the same room as the Nvidia Shield TV unit. I power the unit on and watch a video or play a game. Initially everything works great. Once I switch to anything different, the unit loses connection to wifi. If I look at the settings menu it will show "obtaining IP address" and then time out with a failure. I have to either reboot the unit or switch to the 2.5 band to continue using the unit on wifi. Meanwhile the other brand streaming box, utilizing the same hardware, never has these issues. An average evening will include 4-6 reboots to keep it connected.

    Don't Buy

I bought 2 of these. Don't do like me. I'm working on my 2nd RMA in 4 months. Besides it just not working (hence the RMAs), when it does work, it doesn't stream 4k content well. Video skips / android menus are slow to appear / the apps crash. It was a complete surprise to me as I own 2 of their 2017 devices and they are great with the same content. Apparently this has lower specs than the old model. Possibly try the pros instead. I wish I could, but I'm stuck with these now. Also of note, there is no "on" light, so when it is malfunctioning you can't tell whether it is doing anything or not to help you with troubleshooting. The button used to reset it (locate remote button) is hidden in the recessed end of the tube crammed by the HDMI cable where you can't press it easily without kid fingers. I used a pen on mine and broke it. The shape is aesthetic only - and bad at that. The device is too heavy to hang by the HDMI cord from your TV and too big to hide behind the TV like other dongles. So you basically have a tube on a shelf with cords coming out both ends versus a small box with cords only out the back.

Not a good deal for the money

Not worth the money. It's best to buy the 16Gb box. I purchased this box 4 days ago from the date of this review. I have been battling to get Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime movies, and Disney+ to play on it. I have contacted Nvidia support and they are no help. The crazy thing is I've reset the box 2x, changed the HDMI cord 3 times and it still would not play these apps. The crazy thing is when I connected it to my bedroom tv the apps played on it. I would say it isn't compatible with my Living room tv but my other boxes play on it. It's crazy!

You're better off with a Chromecast

I got this thinking it would be better than Chromecast and firestick. It originally worked great and had no ads on the home screen. With each update it seems to get more and more sluggish and experience constant freezing and crashing (with proper maintenance). I guess ad revenue is more important than having a solid, functional device.

Hardware getting old and even Android Home screen is getting slow on this X1 processor. Does not look like nVidia is planning any upgrade of hardware. 4K to 1080p transcoding using Plex is constantly crashing Plex due to lag in X1 transcoding. Even 4K playback on 4K TV crashing it. Meanwhile, Plex on Sony TV is working perfectly fine.

When you get it warmed up it works but if you dont use it every day youll have to unplug it and wait a second then plug it back in for it to even work every time you use it. I only use it once a week maybe and I literally have to do that every time. Plus the batterie needs to be replaced on the remote one a month because the lights turn just from you walking though the house or if you bump what is on

Junk and not worth the savings of the pro or close to being an upgrade from older models. This runs a 32bit OS with 2GB of ram and grinds to a halt when streaming 4k high bitrate content via Plex. My 2017 Shield has no issues with this. Avoid the tube and get the Pro or an older model.

These are incredibly powerful, but they seem to really struggle with high bitrate 4k video on plex. We've also started seeing glitches and crashes with Netflix. I hear the pro is better, but this is the second tube to have trouble and my 3rd overall shield TV to have troubles. Thinking I'm done with these.

It’s ok. Reminds me of any streaming device really! Not all what I thought it would be. Been wanting to get one for a while and decided to go ahead and try it out. Just recently the remote started acting funny. When trying to pause, it won’t. The device cuts on by itself sometimes. And without even touching remote, it goes to Netflix. Weird!

As of January 2, Dolby Vision is broken.

If you're buying this for Dolby Vision then look elsewhere as NVIDIA broke Dolby Vision on their new update. It's been two months since that update and no official fix has been implemented yet. There is a "hotfix" you can install but If you do install it, Dolby Vision will work but then the picture will be very dark. This is unacceptable for a $150-$200 product. I will be returning mine.

First off, it does not work with Spectrum. After a lengthy discussion with the associate on which tv to buy I was sold a standard tv, not a smart TV, and this NVIDIA. I was told it would work for Spectrum, it doesn't, it even says so on the website. So as soon as I can I'm going to return the product and shop somewhere else.

    Forced Advertisements since June 2021

This was the premium streaming device, but starting in June 2021, Nvidia pushed an update that enabled large Google TV advertisements on all home screens. The product worked just fine before, and Nvidia refuses to implement an option to disable the advertisements. This material change to the product is unwelcome and I can no longer recommend it.
