    Overall good experience

I've owned/regularly used this device for a month now (previously had a lower-end Android TV stick), and have overall have had a good experience. Pros: + GameStream works well with my TV close to the wifi router and computer connected via ethernet (this was one of the main features that I was interested in). Together with the "game mode" option on my TV I was able to achieve low input latency and smooth gameplay. + TV streaming apps work well, have not had any issues. + Remote integrates well with my sound bar and TV. Cons: - No mute button on the remote, have to find my soundbar remote for this

Picked up the New Tube and I was not disappointed! I already own 3 and wanted 1 more for my last TV and waited for the latest model. I was open minded and didn't expect much of a change. Well I was very surprised that it was actually and upgrade, slight but noticeable. Love the new remote, it is definitely what was needed! It is remarkable! Thanks you Shield for the experience!

    Spectrum app

Pros: The A1 processor makes a big difference when it comes to upscaling and the sound is perfect. I am a Roku person and this is the only reason why I bought this until Roku comes out with a faster processor that can upscale the picture. Cons: You CAN NOT download the Spectrum App like many people say you can.

    Running like crap now

I've had mine for 4 years, over the last year is has been horrible. Freezing, must be rebooted each time I use it and it's become very slow. I've completely reset it, removing and reinstall just one app to see if memory was an issue, no change. I initially purchased it thinking the video quality would be much better than my Roku devices and better than the installed apps on my TV. Didn't see a difference between it and the Roku even after playing with all of the video settings. And the quality was not close to being as good as the apps installed on the TV. Right now I use the TV apps on my TV's and the Shield on my projector. For a log time it would not connect via ethernet, then all of the sudden one day it started working. Another problem is the inability to connect to hotel networks, which Roku devices do effortlessly. I did read about some ways to get it to work on a hotel network but I just didn't have the time to do it. What I do love is the remote that connects to anything and it's backlit. Still using it but I have my Roku connected also just incase the Shield starts acting up. BTW, I have several Roku devices, some older than the Shield, they never have an issue.

    NVIDIA Shield Review

The product is good overall. The remote could be a bit better. It does not have a mute button on it. I like to think of myself as being technical enough to understand technical differences between products. This device is running on an android platform, no surprise there, so for anyone who does not consider themselves as technical won’t see any difference between this devise and almost any other android driven device. So because the AI up scaling gets all of the buzz, I don’t see enough of a difference that should pull a Firestick user away from a firestick. In fact if I were asked I would discourage a person who uses a firestick to make the change. I like the ability to manage my device so I like the android device. A non technical novice person who only uses their device as a means to cut the cord should save the extra cost of purchasing a Shield and stick to the fire stick due to its simplicity in setting up and operating. The remote also has a mute button on it.

    Too unreliable for the price

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Pros - Feature rich and flexible, easy to use. Google app store. Cons- unreliable. Hangs often with Hulu, interface is confusing, Android assistant slow and inconsistent. No multi tasking. Too expensive and features do not justify the price. Need to focus on more reliable functionality vs feature set. Compared to Roku for $25 is more reliable.

Bricked Twice in Less than Year: Do Not Buy

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is an extremely frustrating waste of $150. Do not buy this product. There are numerous competitors that do almost the exact same thing but with a little bonus: they might actually turn on. I've had this device for less than 12 months. At first, all was well, and the video quality looked good and had wide compatibility. At first the Shield refused to turn on every now and then, possibly just to keep me on my toes. I could get around this with a hard reset: unplugging the power cable and waiting a ten count before rebooting. This worked intermittently for a few more months before the device simply bricked. It output no audio and no video, making it only suitable as an extremely expensive and poorly shaped doorstop. Merely figuring this out was itself a chore as the Shield has absolutely no external lights, indicators, or otherwise to communicate its status. Once I ruled out the cable (tested) and the TV (tested) only the Shield remained the problem. NVIDIA did send a replacement. This lasted all of 1 month (bringing the total number of months I got out of this $150 purchase to a whooping 10) before dying exactly like its predecessor. Perhaps not "exactly like," as this 2.0 unit skipped the hard reset phase and went straight from operational to bricked. This is a completely unacceptable level of QC or build quality from a $150 product. NVIDIA could - and should - send another, but that would do little to mitigate the immense frustration of an extensive steaming box utterly failing at doing the single most basic tasks for which it was designed. Do not buy this. If you want to get the same experience, turn off your TV and look at the black screen. Burn $150 in a small pile next to you. There you have it.

Purchased on dec 1, 2023 & the remote is not responsive at all on dec 21. Called Best Buy & was routed to Global calling center because all stores are busy with the holidays. So it will cost me lots of incoveniences by taking time away from caring for my elderly disabled mother to return this in person. I trust that BestBuy will make things right with customers courtesey for fair compensation of unsatisfactory experience with product failure within a short time

This USED to be the only TV stick with an AD free experience (ads and recommended content could be disabled in settings). I purchased this (and paid the premium price) with that knowledge in mind. However about 2 days ago they changed the interface. SURPRISE! There's now large ads at the top. DO NOT BUY THIS, IT IS NO LONGER WORTH THE MONEY, IT IS NOW A GLORIFIED GOOGLE TV. Best buy should remove the video on this page showing the old interface. It is now misleading.

Crashes & Freezes often with Plex

Performs very poorly with Plex - Crashes often and becomes completely unresponsive when playing 4k HDR content. It's way less reliable than even the cheapest Roku devices if you mainly use Plex. Avoid.
