Works great and great picture. It works flawlessly with my soundbar. I've had roku, fire tv, and apple tv all work good but the ease of use and setup was easy. The best streaming device on the market.

I originally had the 2016 Shield TV Pro but had to buy another in a pinch as the wifi/bluetooth chip went out on it. I ended up buying this one to try out, and while it does everything I need it to do, i frequently get messages that im running out of space. Now you do have the option to add a SD Card and format it as expandable storage so it will combine with the onboard storage already in the Shield. The 4k upscale AI is amazing and i love the new remote. The removable batteries last longer then the last gen rechargeable remote, and it even lights up when you pick up the remote. The dedicated media keys are a big plus as well as the netflix button, though its easy and frequent that we accidentally hit the netflix button.

I bought this solely for the upscaling feature and it does not disappoint! Have this paired with a Sony 85" class X900H (X90CH) sitting ~9" away and the 1080p picture is fantastic. 4k content is superb!

We've had and used a Roku Ultra for a long time as our streaming box for Youtube TV, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu. I needed a new one for a new TV and decided to try this based on reviews across the internet. I won't go back to the Roku. This is fast, high powered, and filled with features. If you don't have a TV with superb upscaling, the "intelligent" upscaling on the Shield is the best out there. The remote is simple, but has everything you need and is laid out well, and the voice control (e.g. just say "Netflix" and it opens up Netflix) works extremely well. Very highly recommended.

This is the second Shield in the house. The first is a Shield Pro that runs Plex server along with other video streaming apps. I put this one in my bedroom to stream from Plex server on the Pro as well as the typical video streaming services. I love the remote control. It's Bluetooth, so line-of-sight is not necessary. The Shield uses HDMI-CEC to control my TV, so I do not need to use the TV remote. I had to replace my Google Chromecast devices with these. The Chromecasts were no longer able to handle buffering of quality video streams. I've got a second one of these (3rd total Shields) in shipping to replace my final Chromecast. Even though casting can be a pain, the Shields still provide that ability if I need it.

I’ve tried a number of streaming media players as Plex clients and this one has been the best. I can say its performs better than the ps5, ps4, amazon fire stick, AT&T chrome based media streaming box and a couple of tvOS tvs. It’s not without its quirks though. The Plex app will crash occasionally. Most of the crashes occur when the device goes into hibernation while Plex app is running. Doesn’t do it every time but I just happen to notice that was a common situation when it did crash.

This is the best streaming stick on the market. It's very fast and gives you amazing picture with the AI upscaling. I love how this can make your normal 1080p content look just like 4K.

I have a smart tv, but the built in apps are all garbage. Tried other more expensive streaming devices but couldn't get used to the weird overly simplified remote. Nvidia has a great track record of supporting their devices, and this has been no exception so far. This does a great job of letting me switch between the different services I use while staying out of the way. The interface is simple to use, and there are no ads, which is a big one for me. The AI upscaling is mostly useless, it either isn't supported on most of the media I watch, or isn't noticeably better unless doing A/B comparisons. Sometimes it's significantly worse than the original.

My wife and I have been die hard Apple cult members for a long time. We like the idea of keeping everything on the same ecosystem. It just works good when everything is made by the same manufacturer. After about a year of my business partner telling me I need to switch from Apple TV’s to Nvidia Shields I gave in and bought one. Over the past two years they’ve become our go to. I’ve bought 4 for myself and even have my parents on them now too. We love being able access apps like Kodi on a streaming box that actually outperforms an Apple TV.

This version of the Shield seems faster and smoother and the addition of Dolby Vision makes it even better. The price seems high though and it's why I gave it only 4 stars.

The best streamer hands down…except for one big issue! I have Spectrum TV and there is no app on the Play Store that works on this device. Roku has one, Apple TV has one…but not Google Play - very disappointing. The picture and sound quality blow everything else away - I have a Sonos ARC Soundbar and related components and wow - this device is perfect for that. The AI upscale feature works great - so for everything except for certain programs/games I want to watch live I use this awesome device. Setup was super simple and quick - you can’t go wrong!

Pros: Fast, good selection of apps, Cons: Forces ads in your face, bad design, expensive, and accessories cost extra. The remote won't lay flat, the cylindrical device itself would roll of the table if not plugged in, I can't reach the SD card slot without tweezers, and playing games on it is a hassle to the point where I haven't really bothered- I played around with Steam Link, and it worked.... ok. Maybe fine for a turn-based game. The main reason I'm writing this review is that this thing is EXPENSIVE. Compared to rokus, firesticks, or other android TVs, this thing is just plain pricey, and what do you get for it? It is fast, loading stuff goes nice and quick. But the remote isn't great, and it also lacks things like the ability to plug in headphones for private listening. A huge issue though, is are the ads. A third of the screen is taken up with ads for shows that I didn't pick, on services I don't have. NVIDIA claims this is all google's doing, and they can't do anything about it. My guess is that about 150 bucks from you isn't enough, and they wanted an extra dollar from google ads. Either way, they're not interested in fixing it, so it looks like that's how it is from now on, just like how you've got a big branded NETFLIX button on your remote. Why? A buck from Netflix, I guess. If you simply must have "the best", and are willing to devote a few hours to fixing it out of the box, go for it. If you're hoping for the best streaming right out of the box, I'd buy a roku stick and wait for something better to come along.

I already thought I had an amazing picture with q8fn And Apple tv4k combo but I decided to try out the shield and I’m very happy I did. My favorite feature is the AI upscaling mode that you can toggle on and compare in real time split screen! I definitely see a difference with this mode enabled on most of the content I watch! I’m not a gamer so I can’t comment on that but I’ve only heard good things on that front as well. I highly recommend trying out one of these!

The shield is quite simply an awesome Android TV (netflix, disney+, googleTV/movies, youtube music); I have both the Pro and this one (the tube), and I haven't really been able to tell the difference between the two. The shield works seamlessly with my LG OLED c9 tv, and I was surprised at how much I liked how it looks -- with the cords plugged in at the ends, it has a nice subdued look sitting under my tv. Highly recommended.

Best Android Streaming Device Out There

My 'daily driver' is an AppleTV 4K, but I was looking to dive back into the Android space to see what it had to offer. My needs were only to be able to stream video content over the internet with the highest level of fidelity in the video and audio as possible. I'm a huge proponent of physical media and understand that streaming still can't compete with a UHD Blu-ray, but I want to get the best possible when I stream. First: the AI enhancements are genuinely useful here. The picture really did look a little improved when watching normal 1080p content on my 4K TV. In a lot of cases, AI is a marketing term/buzzword that doesn't add value, but that's not the case here. Second: it supports all the streaming services I wanted it to. This isn't always the case (looking at you, Roku), but I didn't notice any glaring omissions during my use. As far as downsides, I have to say that I really don't like the UI. It's perfectly usable, but I don't feel the ribbon is as useful as the tiled layout you get with the AppleTV. This it totally personal preference, though. I just feel like the recommended videos don't really add anything for me, so I usually ended up turning that off. Best case scenario is I end up with a single ribbon listing most of my apps. Additionally, the form factor is...weird. Being cylendrical is not super weird in and of itself, but the design decision of having the HDMI port on one end and the power lead on the other means you always have to use it laying down; you can't leave it standing up. I keep all my AV equipment in a closet, so it's not something I ever have to look at, but this should be a consideration for anyone thinking about picking this up. Overall, this is a great device with some quirks. If you're in the market for an Android-powered streaming device, your search should begin and end here.

The NVIDIA Shield has the performance chops you would expect from this manufacturer. Almost all of the new OLED TV's have an awesome picture processor and a lousy wired/wireless NIC's. Couldn't get more that 200 mb wireless and about 20mb hard wired. I added the Shield and it was up and running in 5 minutes and with its gigE card gets ~900 mb D/L speed. Fantastic for streaming 4k content. It also has Dolby Atmos (I use an optical cable to my receiver, not HDMI-ARC which has lots of sound-sync problems). Great product and thanks Geek Squad guys who suggested it when then came to try and resolve the speed issues on my 6 month old $3,000 tv!
