Best Home Media Player, bar none

I bought the Pro to update from the tube model. I also have an older version of the Shield. It's a great player, even if it is over two years old now. Dolby Vision and Atmos work great, as long as the app developer do their job. And that's where you might have issues. HBO has done a terrible job with the HBO Max app, and is one of the reasons I had to update to the Pro. The app would completely lock the Shield up. If you stream ripped DVDs and Blu Rays, there is no better player than the Shield. Using a player app like Kodi or MrMC, you get full resolution, accurate resolution and framerate, and all audio codecs supported without requiring any modifications to your media. TrueHD with Atmos? No problem, as long as you have an AVR that supports it. Same with DTS Master Audio/:X. You can see the caption tracks from virtually any ripped disc, as well as OTA recorded TV. I don't play games with my Shield, but it does have that capability. The remote included with this version of the Shield is a vast improvement over my 2017 version. The Shield might be a bit more daunting to configure compared to a Roku, Fire TV or Apple TV. But that's because it's so much more capable. I still use Roku players in my home, but the Shield is my primary player, and if I'm streaming from my media server, it's the only choice.

    Best Streaming Device

Best streaming device you can buy. It has all of the streaming services and runs smoothly on my LG 4K OLED. The remote is a major upgrade, switched my 2017 models to the newer remote as well. No other streaming device I have used has been so reliably solid over several years. Remote controls everything over CEC and IR, no need for a universal remote. I have considered getting a fourth.

Even after almost 7 years all other streaming boxes are still trying to catch up. Was debating on upgrading my 2019 Samsung tv and getting a newer one because the tv UI felt very slow and sluggish. Then while browsing best buy I stumbled across this product and did my research on it and there was nothing but great things about it so I gave it a try. Not only did it rejuvenate my TV but the UI was snappy and didn't lag. The bonus of this being an android TV device makes it so you can download better apps then you would from other streaming devices plus the option to game through the NVidia GeForce Now is incredible.

Best Streaming Device on the Market!

I tried Google's Chromecast, I tried Amazon's Fire Stick, I tried the Roku streamer, and they all disappointed in one key area: upscaling! If you have a 4K TV, watching 4K content is going to look great either using one of the aforementioned streamer options, or by watching it via the built-in app on your TV. The problem arises when you watch something that's less than 4K. All your TV is going to do is stretch that lower resolution content to fit on your 4K TV, and as a result, it's going to look particularly bad. That's where Nvidia come in with their AI-Upscaling! They use artificial intelligence to fill in the blanks caused when stretching that lower resolution content which results in a picture that looks almost as good as if it were actually 4K! For example, if you stream an HD (1080p) movie, or even an old movie that's SD (420p), the Nvidia box will use it's AI to make it look almost 4K, which is pretty awesome! And the fact that you can play games on it using "GeForce Now" is just a bonus!

This is a very powerful machine for its form factor. A nice remote that is ergonomic and it lights up and can be found with a beeper. The shield has a nvidia x1 chipset that can be very snappy in menus as well as allowing content to be upscaled to 4k w hdr. Emulation is a powerhouse if you are into that sort of thing everything GC down almost flawlessly. You will enjoy this product, it is recommened to use a external drive for content.

I am absolutely pleased with my purchase of my new NVIDIA - SHIELD Android TV Pro - 16GB - 4K HDR Streaming Device. It works great with my Samsung Smart TV. If you need an android streaming device for compatibility for apps, etc. This is the one.

WOW! We were very hesitant to spend this much on a media player as we already have a fire tv, hulu etc... But this thing blew them all away! So much faster than the competitors or the built in functions on smart tv's. Much better picture quality and it supports ATMOS. We really just wanted a device that could control the streaming, tv and stereo receiver with one remote and we got more than we had hoped for!

I recently purchased a new television that supports Dolby Vision & Atmos so I upgraded my 2017 Shield to the 2019 Shield mainly just for the the support of those new features but right away I noticed this new box was much improved from the 2017. It's much quicker than the previous version and the remote, oh my is the remote a much appreciated upgrade.

Absolutely hated the fact that I needed to switch to my 2016 LG OLED's built-in apps to get Dolby Vision, but sacrifice Dolby Atmos sound for Netflix on the Shield 2015. This upgrade was well worth the money. Speed, AI Upscale, Dolby-Vision, Dolby Atmos processing, and all in a sleeker (smaller) package. Not to mention the oddly shaped, but surprisingly ergonomic remote is included. Great option to self gifting. Treat yo' self!

Set up was easy, I stream 4k from my PC to TV via wifi in the same house. Feedback on the Bluetooth being weak seems to be exaggerated, I use an Xbox series X controller with no issues.

no it doesnt come with 500gb hard drive but if like me you have a NAS on your home network then you are still good to go. picture quality on youtube 4k videos looks like you are in the room for some videos and looking out a window on others. AI upscaling is the bomb. the new remote is eons better than the old one. all the best legal streaming apps are available as well. its the best streaming box available full stop.

In my opinion as a cord cutter, the Nvidia Shield is the best streaming device you can get. It's easy to load apps onto and runs them smooth with no issues. This particular device is a replacement for my last one that worked flawlessly for over 10 years.

Have three of these, and I've tried everything else. These used to be hands down the best streaming appliance - continuous updates, great performance, upscaling, even gaming/emulation functions. New triangle shaped remote is awesome. Here's the rub - latest update from NVida & Google places ADs at the top 1/3 of the home screen. You cannot disable this with without disabling system services which in turn breaks Netflix, Youtube and a few other services. For a $200 device, that was previously AD free, this is completely uncalled for. Even with updates disabled, the update gets installed. For this wonderful turn of events - I give the unit 1 star. If they decide to correct this, I'll update the review. Otherwise, avoid a device you pay a premium for, but have no control over. AppleTV looks better everyday.

I wanted a stand alone streaming box that output Dolby Atmos and Vison so after some looking around online I found the Nvidia Shield. This box does everything I want and more. Set-up was very easy and there is countless guides online to help you customize. If you want a fantastic streaming experience as well as playback of locally stored media, this is the box for you!

Still the king of the hill years later when talking about streaming boxes. I've tried dozens of different streamers from old school WDTV boxes, purpose built streamers that just play whatever you plug into them, chinese android boxes, apple tv, and at the end of the day I always go back to the Shield TV. It's what I recommend to anyone looking for a good streaming box. It's the only box that Plex allows to run it's own server (because the nvidia SOC has the horsepower to do so). It streams games from PC to your TV, runs android so you can install anything in the google play store, Plex, Kodi, vlc... I have four of them and one of them is a dedicated plex server with a DAS library of 15TB online. Add an nvidia controller and it's also a very capable game console.

you hear something is the "best" and then see the price and think to yourself "what else is out there?" After trying several other streaming boxes this most certainly is the best. Its ease of use is also helpful as several other less expensive boxes lag and are not as user friendly. The box also comes with the best remote Ive ever used with any streaming box or tv accessory.

Nvidia Shield Is Still The King Of Streaming Boxes

The Nvidia Shield has been an excellent purchase. I was looking for an alternative media streaming device and this has lived up to and exceeded my expectations. I have previously used numerous Apple TV’s and Amazon Fire streaming sticks. The speed on the Nvidia Shield is on par or better in every category in my opinion compared to the Apple TV 4K. Ease of Use - 9/10 (Not as simple to setup as Apple TV) Device Speed - 10/10 (Fast and crisp UI with no lag/stutter) Design - 10/10 (Very small and sleek) Remote - 7/10 (Very large Netflix button on remote seems unnecessary and requires direct line of sight for input) Conclusion - Well worth the price and offers great functionality for a variety of use cases.

Bought to replace my Roku, which could not handle my digital files. This thing has been great!! Using the Jellyfin app I can watch full 4K Remuxs of my media library with no hiccups. It is fast and responsive. I am not using this for anything other than a client for a local Jellyfin server.

This new Shield TV fixes all the remaining deficiencies of the old version. Supports all the latest Dolby codes. AI upscaling. Better remote. Wish the Netflix button was more easily programmable. Supposedly there is a way but haven't tried it yet though. Cons. Expensive. Not on sale yet. Full regular price. Although I got a 10% discount coupon from Best Buy to offset the price.
