I purchased this to replace both a Roku Ultra and Steam Link and it exceeds the performance of both. The ultimate reason I bought a SHIELD was to replace my Steam Link. My biggest grievance with the Steam Link was small glitches, hangups, and stutters in sound and video quality that can really take away from the immersion and enjoyment of playing a game on the big screen. The SHIELD, from 80+ hours of experience now, has had far fewer (if any) of the same issues as the Link. Games come in much more clearly and the sound without weird drops, clicks, and shakiness. This is with both devices plugged into the same wall adapter. It took my a few hours to figure out how to get the SHIELD talking with my computer. I had to update my graphics drivers (GTX970) and also update the drivers on my Xbox one controller by plugging it into my computer and using a Microsoft program to update the controller. Once I did this, it was pretty smooth sailing, but took some googling and research to find why things weren't talking at first. The image AI is good, sometimes too noticeable on super low resolution movies. We just watched Halloweentown on Disney+ and the AI was "sharpening" the image too much to the point it looked oddly distorted. Turning it off was easy enough, and I do like the AI in most applications and won't complain, it's a good feature. It's a good replacement for our top end Roku. Easy to use. I turn off all the recommendations that pop up on the home-screen to keep it minimal and usable. When you install and log into a new app, the SHIELD pulls recommendations and whatnot from that app (like NFlix and Hulu) and floods the homepage with shows you can continue watching from where you left off and gives you options of other things to watch. I just don't like all the clutter. Also, you can get HBO max on this. My wife subscribed to HBO max only to find out that Roku and HBO are fighting over the profit models of their businesses and you cant get the HBO app on Roku (as of oct 2020). She was delighted to find that she can watch some of her favorite shows now straight from the SHIELD, just another small win for this devices. If you just want a high quality video streaming device, I would say get a high end Roku. But if you are looking to use it for Gamestream, plex server, or more techy applications in addition to a high quality video device, then pull the trigger. I'm glad I did.

Bought it back in 19 and now again in 24. Nothing can beat this device at this time. The power and ease of use is fantastic. The upscaling is unmatched. Fun and easy Android TV that allows the play store and game streaming.

I'm using the Shield TV for steaming although it is a good game platform. Several free games are included. AI guided upscaling of 1080 sources makes them close to 4k quality. The Shield TV has a demo mode so you can really see the improvement. At this time the android TV platform like the Shield is one of the few to have HBO MAX. Remote has a backlight for viewing in dim light. An addon app allows reprograming the prominent Netflix button to some other function or even no function at all. It's a little pricey but if you spend a lot of time streaming it is worth it.

I came from using a FireTV Cube. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the device. It's very fast and responsive. However, it's pretty expensive. I think it's only really worth it if you're going to use all the features, including game streaming. Speaking of game streaming, it works surprisingly really well - both with the remote service and to local PC. If I didn't use the game streaming, I would have a hard time recommending it over the FireTV Cube. The Cube streams very well and considerably cheaper.

I have 2 of the previous generation Nvidia Shields, and I'm so happy with the upgrade. The upscaling works excellent, and the new remote is a vast improvement over the older one. My only complaint is that the volume buttons are in a row with other buttons and it makes it impossible to change the volume without looking at the remote to make sure you're pressing the right button. Even though the backlighting works great, it would be nice to have a tactile difference for the volume. But aside from that small complaint, the Nvidia Shield is still the best streaming box out there and worth the price.

There is a tremendous difference with upscaling, both sound and picture is amazing. The speed is also lightening fast. If you are on the fence, make the plunge.

I got this to replace my dead 2015 Pro model and it works as good as that version with the added benefit of better audio support and AI enhanced upscaling. Unfortunately Nvidia removed the 500GB hard drive making this essentially the 2017 standard model with slight enhancements (at the same price as that standard model). While that does make the 2019 Pro model $100 cheaper than it's been in years past, you now get substantially less storage and no game controller, which was included in all previous models at the $300 and $200 price points. That being said, the Nvidia Shield Pro Android TV continues to be the best streaming box for home theater enthusiasts and the updates in the 2019 version make it even better in that regard. The 2019 models are however worse for people looking to game on them.

I bought the Shield Pro to replace a 1st gen firestick, and the performance is night and day. Im a huge fan of how 720p-1080p signals are upscaled, making HD look that much sharper. Its a powerhouse - this thing handles everything you throw at it like a champ.

I love this. As soon as I heard that there was a version of the shield coming out that had support for Dolby Vision, I had to get it. I now use it for almost everything... TV (Google TV with OTA broadcasts), streaming (Netflix, Prime, etc..), and streaming from local media server. Pros: Light Up remote, Dolby Vision, find remote feature, faster UI response, decent Geforce Now streaming performance. Cons: Wish it had a bit more storage.. Like 128GB SSD or something. I would expect that to be cheap these days to build into the unit.

Finally broke down and asked for this for my birthday, and wish i would of done it sooner. This is one of the most stable devices i have used, and now i am hooked.Ny only wishes are that it had more storage and my old tv would just always stay on the HDMI port so i didn't have to switch it every time. Though that should be resolved if i ever get a new tv. ......oh what's up with showing the device alway on a stand but not including it?!?!?!

You get what you pay for and for 200.00 you get it all. The AI upscaling is amazing. Way better than other devices I've used that have upscaling. Easy to setup whether you're a beginner or advanced user. The Shield TV Pro has a sleek design. Its small and can be placed anywhere. There are a few different mounts Ive seen thatll let you mount it almost anywhere. Nvidia also makes a stand to mount it vertically. The remotes shape fits comfortably in your hand. Storage can easily be expanded if needed. Have yet to find any cons.

Initially bought this device to let us access streaming services (our "smart" tv is just getting slower and more buggy over time) as well as streaming games from my Desktop PC to our TV. Works great for streaming services, much faster to load and much more responsive than our aging Roku TV which has apps crashing and freezing constantly. Game streaming on the other hand leaves something to be desired, i set up my computer using Moonlight and while the streaming DID work I found it to be too choppy to be usable, especially the audio. Im going to try a strong Wifi extender as i dont have access to an ethernet port for the device... but i dont really see this being a vibable game streaming option with our fairly standard internet setup. (Ethernet source to Wifi reciever)

Great device! My video options like you tube netflix and regular broadcast tv are all easily accessible through it. No plug in devices to deal with. all connect or wifi to the Nvidia. This is the second one I have had. The first one just had to be retired. Old and slow. Great 4k too.

Shield has been awesome, the amount of games you get for free is insane. Graphics are amazing and the Tablo that would not work with Chromecast (without feezing) works incredibly well on the Shield. Only issue I have is the remote, I have had it shut off twice for some unknown reason. The only option to fix is to reset it, unplug the shield, then plug it back in and wait.
