The Shield had its own user interface but has since been replaced with Google ads that make it look more like NASCAR than TV. Wish I could return it. The UI change has completely ruined the experience.

This was the best streaming device for several years running. As of June 2021, an update to the latest "Google TV" home screen now forces unwanted advertisements on all devices. This is a material change to the product, and Nvidia refuses to restore traditional behavior or give an option to disable the advertisements. Do not buy.

Piece of junk! Have old one and it has been great, this new one I can't even get YOU TUBE - I keep getting NETWORK ERROR- . I tried to get help from NVidia and all they did was jerk me around, now I'm past the return date for BEST BUY. I really liked my old one, I still have it and it works fine, but Nvidia's "SUPPORT" SUCKS!!!!!!!! I mentioned in passing I couldn't get CHROME along with other apps and they made my whole complaint about not getting CHROME TOTALLY BLOWING ME OFF-TWICE!!!!!

Is the best for streaming but when It come to games is the worst, almost every game thinks you're in a computer and ask for a keyboard and a mouse, Plus there are not for free .

then it just did not turn on the next day. It is a brick now. And yes it was in a well ventilated area. Also when streaming pc games the overlay never went away and the aspect ratio was very skewed And to add insult to injury, the stand pictured on the front of the box is not included. The box art does not say "stand not included". Is the stand free to all NVIDIA account holders? No, of course not. $20 at their website.

Great except the remote sucks. Buttons stick and aren’t responsive. The actual shield is the best on the market.

I purchased the Shield Pro since it always ranks as the #1 streaming device. My 5 year old Fire Stick streams 1000% better then this Shield. This device is constantly freezing up while streaming,then has to be restarted to function again which makes it pretty much useless as a streaming device. Also the batteries died after only a week of very light use. I'm very disappointed in this device and purchase. Went out and bought another Fire Stick which works great. Don't waste your money like I did.

So when it did work it worked okay. Everyone said that it’s generally the fastest, most responsive streaming device. But that wasn’t my experience, in general I thought it was very sluggish, super slow to respond to commands from the remote. And then after having it for about a day it stopped booting up. Overall it did not work well for me at all. I ended up returning it the next day

It was great at first, but with these terrible software updates it's taking a path towards unusable. My Plex server works sometimes, VLC can find all of my video files, and whenever I boot it up, it consistently turns off about 20 secs after. These problems have been voiced on forums numerous times with no fix in sight. Don't waste your time, just get an Android TV or something.

Work great when it works. The remote randomly stops working every few weeks requiring a reset. Absolute waste of money.

Meh, I should have returned it already. I will say that the up conversion is cool but it is absolutely awful for streaming any games.

My device just updated and now there is a giant ad bar taking up the top 1/3 of the screen that I did not opt in for. This is infuriating. Do not buy this until they remove it.

No privacy offered on this device and you are bombarded with advertising. A shame really because the build, specifications and components are top of the pack. Problem is the registration process requires you to give away your identity, in fact you must pay for the privilege! Come on NVIDIA, ditch the Google OS and use a platform that supports the customer not a bloated corporation.

I ordered the shield as an "upgrade" for my new OLED. There was no noticeable improvement in picture quality, and several ways behaved extremely buggy, with Hulu quitting a couple of weeks in and refusing to work even after a full device reset. Returned and went back to my Roku Ultra.

Worst media box I’ve ever bought! Clunky! Awful!!! Over priced!!!

My 2 years old Samsung 65" QLED's Connection box can stream 4K content 24/24 without a single connection drop. But this SHIELD drops my wifi connection frequently. I have a 200Mbs Xfinity plan with a Netgear-Wifi6-RAX200 top of the line router. All other devices work fine but the SHIELD just drops the connection frequently. This is unacceptable for a $220 streaming device. When it works, it's great but so unstable enough to annoy me.

Nvidia is known for developing great video chips. Apparently that is where they stop, because they sure have failed on the software side. I was extremely frustrated trying to set up a video server using the Shield. Nvidia should try to recruit some experts in usability. I returned this device and purchased a Roku.

I bought it in March of this year (2024) and when it was working, it was great!! Now after only 3 months, it’s not working!!!

Disappointed, does not do YouTube HDR but my built in app on my Visio does. The YouTube app crashes about once a week.

Makes you log in to Google to use it. Google is an Orwellian evil. I bet it'll use the built in microphone to record everything, and by logging in I tacitly give them consent. No thanks. Returned.
