Even though it's been around for a while, it's still the best Android TV box. Works great, fast, excellent image quality, uses AI to upsample to 4K, etc., supports most of the latest sound and color enhancement technology. My only complaint is that it should definitely have more built-in storage space than it has. Of course, you can add a USB stick to expand it but that also uses up one of your USB ports. The low amount of built in storage is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5.

    An honest review

I never write reviews but I felt the Nvidia Shield deserves one. I've been through multiple streaming devices over the years such as firestick, knockoff android boxes etc. The Nvidia Shield is just amazing right out the gates and the fact that you can even squeeze more goodness from this thing is a bonus. It's small yet stylish profile complements my Ps4 Pro, Ps3 and Router very nicely on my entertainment center. Not only does it excel at streaming, but if gaming is also your thing it excels at that too, especially in retro gaming emulation. This thing brings back so much nostalgia while ushering in a pleasurable streaming experience in the modern age. I know the price tag can make you second guess but PLEASE DON'T! This device is worth every penny and even double if you look online to get the most out of it. Join the cord cutting revolution and buy the shield!!!

I have all kinds of electronic gadgets. I have a nvidia shield pro, apple tv 4k 2021, Fire tv cube, google chromecast with google tv and a roku in the house. Nvidia shield is a great gaming device and expandable memory, but as a streaming device not that great. I have a new lg 65 4k tv and even my old tv i experienced judder or stuttering on alot of uhd movies. You van manually go to the menu and toggle match frame rate and it fixes it but you have to do it before every uhd movie. On Hd movies and shows the upscaling works pretty good. Nvidia jome screen now has suggestions and advertisements with the new software update which i dont like. Im not a huge apple phone fan and own an android but my apple tv 4k is overall the best streamer Ive had so far. Everything is smooth and fast from navigation to streaming. Even with nvidias ai upscale feature, the apple has a better picture in my opinion and a side be side comparison. Its super fast at loading everything. The home screen only has apps abd no advertisements which is awesome. My personal choices are 1. Apple tv 4k, 2. Nvidia shield, 3. google tv, 4. roku 5. Fire tv cube.

Great Streaming Box until Google ruined it w/ ads.

The Good: Had it for about a year and I really really liked the Shield Pro. The AI up-scaling fixed tons of lip sync issues I was having with my TV/Receiver. Streaming apps are (mostly) great though Hulu in particular can be dodgy. Beyond that occasionally a vendor will break their app (HBO looking at you). GameStream/Steamlink are good too. The Bad: With the latest update (June '21) Google (the Shield runs Android TV) pushed banner ads onto the top quarter of the home screen. These ads may be for shows or services you don't even subscribe too also ads will not necessarily going to adhere to any parental controls either. You cannot block the ads with a home adblocker (PiHole etc). The new UI was wonky where the ad took up more room than the favorites bar where the most frequently used apps should go. I managed to load a 3rd party launcher (just like changing launcher on your android phone) which resolved the problem though I have to hope Google doesn't remove support for the 3rd party launchers.

Best Android TV on the market

I have now used the NVIDIA Shield TVs across all 12 of my TVs. I initially started with my main TVs (Family room and Theater)... i loved the response times, and the uber performance of the NVIDIA Shield across multiple applications. The remote is well built / designed. Manytimes if you loose your remote the application helps find it easily..

    SHIELD PRO VS SHIELD TV???

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First! I have the shield pro. I got it for 165 so made more sense to pay that than the lower end shield tv at the same price point. The huge dilemma everone is having on these, is which ine to choose!(i also had that issue) so to help you guys choose and make up your minds! if you do not play any games or game on a casual level go for the shield TV, but if you are a big gamer and want to play pretty good games that run smoothly and also stream go for the SHIELD PRO! Again i got the shield pro becuase i paid the same price the shield tv cost so i future proofes my self and it was a great deal. GOOD LUCK!

The shield pro is the best streaming device in my opinion, the 4k upscaling and DOLBY VISION is a must have which this includes. I notice big difference 4k in animated and pc gaming streaming.

I was in need of another TV. It didn't need to be anything fancy (for the bedroom). I already have a 2015 NVIDIA shield. I decided to get a non-smart TV and a new NVIDIA shield. I couldn't be happier. I moved the old shield to the bedroom and put the new shield in the living room. Great Plex client and powerful enough to run Plex server if need be. There isn't much you can't do with NVIDIA shield. It's responsive, powerful and customizable.

    The definitive streaming box

I recently purchased this product on a bit of a dice roll. I’m in the Apple ecosystem but I was looking for something that was a little more versatile. This thing has everything. Plex media server capabilities? Check. Tons of streaming apps available for every conceivable service? Check. Motion activated backlit remote? You bet. Lightning fast UI? It has that too. Emulation support? It doesn’t stop. It makes my nerd heart flutter. I have never used a more complete set top box. I’m a little bit bummed at the price because I think for $149-$179 it makes more sense, but Nvidia is still the king of the enthusiast’s living room.
