Awesome streaming and gaming device all in one. Easy to set up. All setups were either done using my Android phone or easily on the screen. Everything like Wi-Fi passwords and google sign in were transferred from my phone

    I'm being overrun by bugs

UPDATE: I continue to have problems with the Shield and Nvidia continues to issue patches, but the patches often bring about new bugs. This product was launched too early. Initially, I couldn't transfer files to the Shield from a computer, that has now been fixed. Since I bought the Shield, I haven't been able try Dolby Vision (DV) HDR on my Vizio TV. Nvidia has been working on a patch for that for weeks. A few days ago they released it. Now I have the option for Dolby Vision, but it results in wildly over-saturated colors (skin tones look garishly orange and fuchsia). The only way to fix this is to disable expanded color and run the Shield at 23.9Hz instead of 59.9 Hz, but this results in a choppy and clunky UI experience, one worse than the built-in UI of my TV. Dolby Vision is the main reason I was waiting for a Shield update, and ultimately why I bought the 2019 edition. However, if this DV issue can't be fixed before my return window, I'll be forced to take it back. The most expensive streaming device on the market shouldn't have all these issues. If you want the best streaming experience for your 4k HDR TV and: 1) You don’t want an Apple TV 4k. 2) You don’t need to run a Plex Server. 3) Cost is no object. Then this is, unequivocally the streaming box to get. No question. What makes it great? - It supports Dolby Vision: still a rarity in most streaming boxes (Apple TV 4k does support it) - Unique form factor: it’s a little cyclinder that easily hides behind your TV, it makes almost no noise. - It is FAST. If you think “my TV’s apps are just fine”, don’t use this. You’ll realize just how laggy that LG/Sony/Samsung/Vizio OS really is! - It has the best remote of any streamer: it lights up, it’s ergonomic, and it’s not the Apple TV remote. (which is one of the worst in the industry) - It has a gigabit Ethernet port. (the Ethernet ports built into most TVs are only a tenth as fast) - It has fast, AC WiFi if you don’t want to run a cable - It also acts like a Chromecast Ultra, so you can cast from many Android apps, the Chrome browser, and even iOS apps. - It has a microSD slot for your own, local media. (if you want to hook up a hard drive, you’ll need to shell out $50 more for the “Pro” version though) The Apple TV 4k is better if: - You purchased lots of content on iTunes - You want to watch Apple TV+ (there isn’t an app for the Shield, but that may change) - You don’t like “tinkering” with settings, at all, ever. If you need to run a Plex server (or need to hookup USB drives): - Get the Pro version. It’s an extremely competent and extremely cheap way to serve up Plex to other devices. Why am I only giving it 1 star? - Nvidia is still working out lots of kinks - CEC does not work properly (won't turn off Vizio TV) - Dolby Vision HDR doesn’t work with Vizio TVs (which is what I have) - SMB is broken: which means I can’t transfer files from my computer to the Shield - Many users are having problems installing the Disney+ app - Google Home thinks I have two Shields and therefore refuses to turn mine on or off with a voice command. No matter how many times I delete and re-add it, it will say either “I don’t know which Shield device to turn on/off” or “the Nvidia Shield is currently unavailable”. It gives the 2nd command when my Shield is powered up and I’m staring at the screen…

I used to use the built in apps for Youtube and Plex and the like, but my TV was soooo laggy and the menus were awful to navigate. The nvidia shield has a much nicer and smooth interface, and with moonlight I can play games streaming from my PC in high quality with no lag all the way downstairs in my living room! The only two problems I have with it right now is that they've put an ad banner on the top of the main page, which is annoying, and also that the Amazon prime video app doesn't seem to work right sometimes, but I think that might be Amazon's fault.

A must have if you have a 4k TV. With streaming services having so many titles to choose from there is a surprising lack of 4k content, but this can help fill that gap with its upscaling capability. Not the biggest fan of nvidia as a company, but you just can’t deny that they are the leader in graphics and AI right now. On top of the excellent picture, it’s also just miles beyond everything else performance wise. No more lagging and glitching TV interfaces.

The NVIDIA Pro Shield is a fine piece of hardware, the tegra processor and built in graphics chip make for a great NVIDIA NOW experience. The most capable 4K TV companion for HDR streaming and HD gameplay. The backlit remote is wonderful.

I've had my Shield for almost 3 years and it's still running fairly well. The hardware is definitely starting to show its age, but it's still the obvious top contender when it comes to Android TV boxes. On top of all my streaming apps, I have mine set up with RetroArch for retro gaming and it emulates games well up to the PS1 era. That on top of being able to sideload makes this an obvious choice for people serious about a quality streaming box experience. I wish they hadn't added ads to the home screen, but it doesn't make me recommend another box over this one.

I'm not a big Nvidia Shield fan, so you can trust my review, I bought expecting the best device or Ultimate Device, it probably is the best overall, but I don't care for it, I ended up with an Amazon Fire TV Cube 2nd gen, the differences in those are, the Shield can and will play the biggest or bigger 4K Files out there, like what you get using Real Debrid and other services with Cyberflix and other apps, and the big Remux 4K files on Emby & Plex servers. as long as you have a 100 speed or faster internet connection. The Dolby Atmos is excellent, the Video Upscaling which works on most but not all things is awesome and unmatched by any other device, the new Remote is great. if your a big gamer with an expensive 4K Tv and sound setup, spend the money and get one, if your an average streamer, get a 4K FS or the Cube when it's on sale.

I had the original Nvidia Shield for over 10+ years. It still works. h However, I wanted to upgrade to the newer version because of my Bose Atmos system and other newer technologies. You can't go wrong with Nvidia, quality and performance that lasts.

NVIDIA - SHIELD Android TV Pro is amazing, swift, and easy to setup. The remote controller is very nice and easy to navigate, the remote control also has a backlight, and it senses when you pick it up then turns on the light.

The AI 4k changes are great for content 720p and above. The remote improvements are also great. Everything else that made the shield tv a great unit are still there: game streaming from a PC, android TV apps, and solid performance on all I've used.
