New version makes a great device even better

As a Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2015) I was wondering how much better the new version (2019) is. The hard drive is gone and replaced with a 16GB ssd. If you need more space you can connect external drives via the USB connection. Remote: The new remote is SO MUCH better than the old one. It uses AAA batteries instead of the tiny rechargeable battery in the old one. It also adds a microphone button to use with the built-in Google Assistant. Also added is a dedicated Netflix button (a Netflix contractual requirement). The pro adds Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support which was very important for me. One thing I don't like is that my existing (2015) game controllers are not compatible with the 2109 version. Also, if you have an issue, be prepared for many back and forth communications with Nvidia support.

    Ai enhancing really works.....

I have 2 of the last model of Nvidia Shield Pro, but I wanted to test the Ai processing of the newer model so I bought this version. well, I was surprised that the Ai enhancement really work, especially watching movies via NetFlix and Amazon. The only problem I had was the Plex server, it did not recognized the external drive that was setup by the older version which is now connected to new one, I eventually solved the problem, so now I am really enjoying it, thinking of getting another one to replace the other one in my bedroom. I really like the new remote control, it is a lot easier to use than the last one and it use 2 3a batteries, the processor speed is a tad upgrade from the 2017 model, but it did make me notice the difference in speed, I haven't experience the buffering I was getting with the older model so far.

    Awesome Streaming Device!

Excellent streaming device that has an easy to use menu for streaming app management. Also does 1080p to 4K AI upscaling incredibly well. Having used Amazon and Roku devices for years, this product was an awesome upgrade in my streaming capability and video/audio experience (Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are key technical capabilities of the device). Although one might get sticker shock as compared to lesser capable devices, the NVidia Shield Pro is worth the price given its proven technical capabilities that are not available in other streaming devices commonly used by cord cutters.

Still the best streaming box available

It’s crazy this first came out in 2015 and is still the best option. It’s one of the few boxes that fully supports Dolby TrueHD, which is huge if you’re digitizing Blu-rays for Plex—no TrueHD is a dealbreaker, and that’s why Apple TV isn’t the top choice. The 2019 Shield refresh added Dolby Vision and full 4K/60 (not important for movies, but nice for the interface). The gaming features are great, though I haven't used them in years. The latest Fire TV 4K technically supports Dolby TrueHD, but the Fire UI is a mess and buggy with Dolby features. Maybe Nvidia will give us a Shield 2 now that the Switch 2 is coming—but probably not. For something this old, it’s still snappy and outperforms every newer box, all of which have major flaws that keep them from beating it.

This is my 4th nvidia shield and they just keep getting better! The remote is an upgrade from 2017 shield, and the added 4k AI upscaling is awesome! Whether you want a box for Netflix, kodi, iptv or to use as an in home media server player, it does it all! And updated often by nvidia so it keeps up with all the new technologies. No lag whatsoever between menus like some other media boxes. It does everything it says it will do and more!

Perfect Streaming device if you have 4k tv. Supports every video format under the sun and has all the apps as well. But the real kicker is the ai upscaling that can make all 1080 content and lower look way better than you thought possible. If on larger tv ie 65 or larger don't look at anything else since sharpens up picture without and motion blurring and screen jitters. All Gaming and extra imputs are a bonus.

I have been extremely impressed with the Nvidia Shield. I own 2 Apple TV 4k streaming boxes which I really liked, but 1 stopped working and there is no way for me to fix it due to lack of inputs. I was frustrated by this and saw that the Shield works well as a Plex server, so I decided to give it a shot. I have a large library of downloaded TV shows and movies on external hard drives that I run through Plex. I previously ran it all through a PC, but the Shield is more convenient. The biggest bonus is the Shield does an excellent job of upscaling my content. Most of it is 720p HD, but once the Shield's AI upscaling gets used to the content it makes it more like 4k. I haven't played any games on it yet, but probably will in the future. It is an excellent streaming box for the various services. I subscribe to most of the major ones. Picture is spectacular and the sound is too through my Dolby Atmos soundbar. The only issue I have run into is I did have a couple days where my WiFi wasn't working well enough and shows would have trouble streaming, Showtime in particular. I have a mesh WiFi system with satellites and now run an ethernet connection from one of them. I had a lot of devices on my WiFi and seemed to be having some issues with my internet signal in general. I'm not sure that any of my issue had to do with running my Shield on WiFi as it worked fine for couple weeks before that. No issues at all since I switched to the ethernet connection. I strongly recommend this product for streaming and especially if you have or are interested in setting up your own plex server.

Best STB streamer for video and games.

By far the best set top streaming box. Supports UHD video in all the HDR formats and all surround including the lossless DTSHD-MA and Dolby TrueHD that smart TVs don’t support. Mainly got this for streaming video from Plex but had a lot of fun playing streaming games from my PC using steam link or Nvida Game Stream. Very little lag when hardwired even when gaming at full res 2160p30. Was even better than PS4 Pro. Would buy again and am looking at replacing all of my chromecast ultras with the standard version of this.

I use the Shield Pro to stream YouTubeTV and other apps. The basic upscaling is excellent. Overall picture is excellent. Remote control is so much better than what I experienced with ATV. I mean, not even close. This remote feels good in my hand and has all the functions except one, the mute button. However, you can do what I did and that is download the app button mapper and configure Netflix as a mute button. I had ATV and my wife uses Roku, but this Shield Pro is the best one I've had the pleasure to use.

One of the best streaming machines around leverages Nvidia’s powerful Tegra processor and a high speed internet connection you have flawless 4k/HDR/Dolby vision across all support platforms. This is also a classic gamers dream with the Nvidia shield tv PRO you also get one of the best emulation boxes on the market and for those that want a modern gaming experience you have GeForce Now. GeForce Now is a multi-tiered cloud based gaming service that allows for you to play PC games across from your Steam/Epic and soon Xbox Gamespass libraries without the need for expensive PC hardware. With the GeForce Now Premium tier you get access to Nvidia’s high end severs that offer AMD Threadripper CPU as well as an RTX 4080 GPU for a high end gaming experience. The premium tier allows you to play games like Cyberpunk 2077 as the developers intended with high fidelity graphics and mind blowing ray traced shadows and reflections. I was truly blown away by the quality and performance I was seeing from this tiny set top box that’s slightly bigger than a Blu-ray case. I cannot recommend this box enough.

We do a lot of streaming, whether it's TV and movies or streaming games from our PCs with the Moonlight app. The Shield pro is impressive and perfect for our needs. I love the AI upscaling features and the fact it has ethernet built right in. The remote is really great too, with the backlight and the ability to ring it if you lose it has come in very handy. I also pair Xbox controllers to it very easily, however I've had to make some modifications to the settings to get the Xbox guide/home button to work the way I want it to. A setting I wish Nvidia would just bake into the UI. This thing is old, all things considered, but it's still a beast and I would still recommend it. For what we use it for, it's amazing. I do wish the price had come down, but I was able to use my Best Buy rewards points to purchase it.

Other than the price, this is one of the best streaming devices. Personally, I use to replace my LG CX built-in apps because WebOS is trash. The AI upscaling is a really nice touch and I've only been watching old animes so far, but it makes such a big difference. Gaming is ok as long as you have connected via ethernet. Although I have really good internet, it tends to lag sometimes and drop in quality when connected wirelessly. Overall, it's a great device and I hope the next edition supports 4k120hz.

The Nvidia Sheild is simply the best device on the market when it comes to streaming devices;I added a 128gb SanDisk usb flash drive to it for extra storage, which solves the issue of it only having 16gb. I have experienced pretty much zero lag or buffering. For some people this may be a bit of an overkill, & for the price of this alot of people would probably be better off buying the chromecast, however for myself the AI upscaling feature by itself makes this device worth the extra costs.

This is the best media player I have tried and I have them all! The picture is better then the Apple 4k that I have in HDR Dolby Vision on my Sony OLED A80J, The AI upscaling is real good just don't put it to high or the picture will be to sharp. I use it for basic games but mostly for streaming it as good has I was told love it.

Overall: Good. Audio: Decent USB DAC support with content bitrate matching capabilities. You can connect external DAC for audiophile setup. But it may be missing some apps like USB Audio Player Pro which is a let down. Hopefully the app becomes available on this. HDMI audio passthrough is supported. Video: No HDR10+ but decent support for 4K HDR10. I don't have a Dolby Vision supported displays at hand, so didn't test it but looks like it supports it. If you are connecting displays/TVs that do not support HDR, you may need to turn off HDR in settings. Tip: The handshake between the NVidia Shield and display can make display blink and NVidia crashes or freezes. Interface: The software and apps is great thanks to Android. But does not elevate the experience to Google TV streamer level. Missing features like searching for titles across apps is still not available on this which I like a lot on Google TV streamer. Hopefully future updates will get it but not holding my breath for it.

Awesome android TV box for streaming. I have the 2017 model also and you will love the new remote that lights up when you first pick it up. This shield tv is top notch on my UHDTV the picture is clear and bright just watching NETFLIX and HULU. The built in storage is rather small, but at least you can add adoptable storage to it. I'm using one of Samsung thumb drives that write/read 400mbs on this box. I do recommend this Nvidia Shield tv pro as it performs great.

I've enjoyed my Android TV, but I needed a dedicated media streaming device for direct connection to my AVR. Audio options over ARC were too limited. This allows to me stream all the content I need with 4K/Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos directly to my AVR and sound equipment without relying on ARC from my TV. The remote works great even with the SHIELD about 35 feet away in a closet. Happy with my purchase.
