There is no roadmap from Nvidia to have any significant updates in the future. That is understandable for an old device, but not having security updates is very concerning. I love the device nonetheless and it's the best in market to overhaul an old boring TV.

Great for movie streaming

I had trouble getting the proper sound from Plex using the builtin apps on my TV and ARC to my receiver. Pled needed to transcode them to formats supported by the TV app. The Shield is able to pass through all the sound formats I wanted when connected directly to the receiver producing better fidelity and lower computing requirements on the plex server.

AI Upscaling is freaking Awesome

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The new shield Is out of this world.No need to pay extra for Netflix 4k subscription AS this device does IT for you.It upscales all my content to 4k resolution.You will not be disappointed as the guts to this system will be good for years to come.Toy can go the cheap route and buy $50-$60 firesticks or rokus every year or 2 or just buy this and be satisfied for 5 years at least.The hardware alone is worth the purchase.

With or without a smart TV this little box gets you access to everything From all the latest computer title games to any app out there for tv. And its small and stylish. I cut the cord and havent looked back. This is the last one and I have had my 1st one for 5 years.. still going strong. Whole house is now hooked up with nvidia.

Not my first choice for streaming device

The technology in it is a little older, and I was hoping to enjoy gaming with it, but it just doesn't have the power I needed for that purpose. I was surprised by how small it is. It's very slim, and it connected to our network easily. I felt as though it was a little slow to respond to remote commands, and it wasn't as smooth playing videos as our AppleTV. Not a bad device, but I'm not sure it would be my first choice for streaming either especially given its price point.
