I am having real problems getting the device to read the extended storage devices. I am really frustrated. Sometimes it shows and sometimes it doesn't.

Doesn’t matter where you buy this (I’ve bought from Amazon and BestBuy), the Nvidia shield is. Buggy mess at the best of times.

I had had the first Nvidia shield, and I really loved it. This one seemed very buggy and glitchy so I went back to my fire stick

HDMI CEC does not work, avoid if you need this

Plagued by CEC issues. Search Google for “Nvidia Shield wakes up randomly”. Make a long story short, Nvidia has a weird way of implementing HDMI CEC that makes it think other devices are waking it up when in fact they are not. This causes the shield to randomly power on all devices throughout the day and night. Nvidia is aware of the problem but refuses to fix it and instead pushes the responsibility onto the TV and AVR manufacturers. Problem is, those guys sell a ton more units than Nvidia does and could care less about Nvidia’s wacky implementation of CEC. Nvidia digs their heels in saying they are doing right and Sony, Samsung, Yamaha, Denon, (insert your major brand) are all doing it wrong and nothing gets fixed. It’s literally a comedy show reading the forums on this issue. Long story short, do not buy if you need HDMI CEC. It just doesn’t work and Nvidia is too concerned about who is doing it right to care about the customer experience.

Update equals ads taking over homescreen

Android tv update unfortunately crept its way in to this device. Large ads on home screen when there used to be no ads at all. No longer a true premium device. Buyer beware.

    Poor Service By Best Buy

I purchased Home theatre services from Magnolia, a service provided at Best Buy. It has been more than a month. I paid all the money upfront, and I am still waiting on my projector to be installed. I do not understand how Best Buy does business, there is no communication on when this will be installed. This is absurd that you have to wait for so long after the fact that all the payment was taken upfront, Poor service by a company as big as Best Buy not at all happy.

Do not but this thing, it’s pretty clear that NVIDIA has no intention of supporting it long term. I brought this primarily for the ability to stream my PC to it via GameStream, only to discover after purchase that the feature had been pulled some months before my purchase. This despite the fact that the feature is still advertised on NVIDIA’s product page. It is also extremely slow, with poor download speeds and video quality. Avoid this product.

Poor upscaling, 24fps judder, prime video broken

The shield doesn't automatically change refresh rate for judder free 24fps playback, though it has a beta feature you can use to match refresh to video framerate it doesn't work in a lot of apps. If your TV doesn't take care of the judder on its own then you're gonna have a bad time. The AI upscaling is completely unnoticeable unless you increase the detail level to max and then it just looks like noise. It's completely useless. The prime video app loses sync between video and audio and the Shield also doesn't support HDR10+ even though Android has already implemented support for it. Also doesn't come with a controller like the previous model.

This used to be the best streaming box available, then came the google update that blasts the home screen with adds. I paid a premium for this box so I wouldn't have to see adds, DO NOT BUY one of these! I would give 0 stars if possible.

Problems with connecting and staying connected

Bought this unit in June. Two weeks ago, it refused to connect to the internet. It connected to my router but not to the internet. I have two laptops, 2 ipads and a Fire TV, all of which are working fine without any problems. After trying over and over again, I decided to reboot and reinstall from the beginning as a new device. That took care of the problem, but two nights ago the same problem again. Guess what, I have to start over again as a new device to get it resolve again. I am giving it one more chance, if this occur again, I am calling customer service.

Overall this is a decent device to use as my smart tv device. Hulu no longer works. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled, reset the whole thing to no avail. My other big problem is that dang Netflix button that sends to be ultra sensitive. It gets pressed if you sneeze too hard I wish I could deactivate the Netflix button.

    Buy a cheap computer

I bought this thinking that it could easily run my Plex media server while allowing me to access other streaming services. Now I’ve worked in multiple technical support jobs and I can say this is one of the worst devices I’ve ever wasted money on. Will it connect to my other computers? Well only if I change multiple settings on it as well as on my other computers. How about a direct connection with a usb cord? Nope. I’ve tried it multiple times, looking up multiple support articles to fix it, none have worked. I’m supposed to be able to control it with Alexa too. Another big nope! Every time I follow the steps, it says it’s connected and then doesn’t work. My Plex media server crashes constantly, the Nvidia shield won’t recognize my hard drives, or I have to restart everything multiple times to get my Plex up and running again. And while I was writing this, everything stopped and the system restarted. If I leave the Nvidia on, when I turn the tv on the next day, no signal is sent from the Nvidia to my tv until after I unplug the HDMI cord and plug it back in. Bottom line: waste of money. Buy a small computer with a wireless keyboard and mouse.
