Get rid of that Netflix button

Outstanding product . This thing never skips a beat. Its snappy and fast in pretty much every way. If you have an Nvidia GPU with Nvidia experience, you are able to stream games from your PC to another room. I tested a number of peripherals; xbox one s bluetooth controller, wireless keyboard and mouse, external ssd, flash drives , you name it . It handles anything you throw at it expertly. The only thing I really have to complain about is the remote. The triangular design is comfortable but also annoying at the same time. And I wish the dedicated Netflix button did not exist. Not only is it unnecessary but, its large , overly sensitive and in the worst place possible. I can't tell you how many times I mistakenly breathe on it and suddenly my program is interrupted by Netflix' splash screen.

I bought this to replace my FOURTH Fire stick that just became too slow! The interface is great and its very easy to use with Kodi. I will take away 1 star for the high price and weird triangle shaped remote though. Not sure why they went with that shape as its not ergonomic or aesthetic. But at least the buttons light up with movement.

This is the best Android media player you can buy. The new redesigned remote control is really good. Also the new AI image enhancement is excellent and with Dolby Vision/Atmos, DTSX included you have all the latest sounds and video standards for your viewing pleasure.

Bought this to replace a firestick on our main living room TV. The firestick was constantly slow and couldnt keep up with the apps i was using. SO GLAD I bought this. It is lightning fast and you can customize it any way you like. I suggest going online to see different apps to use so you can make it even more customizable!

Best Android TV Box on the Market!

The NVIDIA Shield is probably the best high end Android TV box available. This is the newest version available as of the writing of this review, and it does not disappoint. I use it primarily with Plex and Kodi to play from my existing media library. Plenty of disk space to store library for Kodi metadata. You can even serve Plex from it if you'd like, although as I already have a dedicated Plex server I haven't tried that myself. It passes through all audio formats to a dedicated receiver if you have one as I do. And of course, the library of approved apps on the Google Play store is the biggest around. Not to mention that you can sideload any app you need to if it's not in the Play store for some reason. Storage is of course expandable through USB, and a built in 1G NIC is a must for the serious streamer. A

Decided to update from my original Nvidia Shield from 2015. Works great and the addition of the Dolby Vision and the upscaling was an added feature. I am totaly satisfied with the performance of this unit. The only downside is Nvidia removed the IR on the unit which I wish they would put back. Shipping from Best Buy was in two days! Great job BB.

This is by far the best device you can use for streaming and gaming. It is quick and responsive. If you lay it down it is just a little bigger than a deck of cards. It has all the ports you will need for additional space and functions.

The good: picture and sound is amazing. Unit is very versatile. The bad: Reboot, Reboot, Reboot. In an average week, it 4-7 times. Sometimes no sound, mostly though it locks up. Factory reset because HULU stopped working and everything online suggested to fix it, I did, with the final suggestion being a factory reset. It fixed Hulu and I was hoping it would fix the other issues of no sound and locking up, but it didn't. Using it with a LG C2 OLED. It makes the TV pic "pop" even more than the awesome picture of the TV itself. I also use a Vizio V51-H6 sound bar. I can overlook the sound issue because it may be the sound bar, but I don't understand why it locks up as much as it does. I'm only using it for streaming.

    Best Android Box So Far

Bar none the best Android tv box I've used so far, I use it primarily for tv streaming (reviewed accordingly). Simple set up, great WiFi connection, seamless streaming, full 4K viewing experience, serious customer service, I called them about an update, the tech was knowledgeable and had good customer service etiquette. Nice picture upgrade for iptv watchers, compatible with all the apps you can find on Google and more. I purchased this box to replace a skystream III Android box (no 4K), and I'm glad I did, seems like a quality item, time will tell if it is durable.

Its lightning fast and very easy to setup. I switched from an Apple TV and this was a huge upgrade. I love the remote. The only issue is the remote is not rechargeable and requires batteries. I love the free games from Nvidia with their GE Force Beta access.

    If you’re serious about streaming

The best streaming device. Period, end of story. I use it with Plex and it handles everything I throw at it with ease. Both 4K and 1080, and every audio codec commonly used via direct play. One word of advice: this doesn’t come with an HDMI cable. Don’t mess around with any standard high-speed HDMI cable you have laying around. Invest in a high quality certified 8K 48Gbps HDMI cable and you won’t regret it. I had bad “handshake” issues using 3 different high-speed cables I had in my collection, and nearly gave up and returned it. A good cable resolved all my issues.

    I'm being overrun by bugs

UPDATE: I continue to have problems with the Shield and Nvidia continues to issue patches, but the patches often bring about new bugs. This product was launched too early. Initially, I couldn't transfer files to the Shield from a computer, that has now been fixed. Since I bought the Shield, I haven't been able try Dolby Vision (DV) HDR on my Vizio TV. Nvidia has been working on a patch for that for weeks. A few days ago they released it. Now I have the option for Dolby Vision, but it results in wildly over-saturated colors (skin tones look garishly orange and fuchsia). The only way to fix this is to disable expanded color and run the Shield at 23.9Hz instead of 59.9 Hz, but this results in a choppy and clunky UI experience, one worse than the built-in UI of my TV. Dolby Vision is the main reason I was waiting for a Shield update, and ultimately why I bought the 2019 edition. However, if this DV issue can't be fixed before my return window, I'll be forced to take it back. The most expensive streaming device on the market shouldn't have all these issues. If you want the best streaming experience for your 4k HDR TV and: 1) You don’t want an Apple TV 4k. 2) You don’t need to run a Plex Server. 3) Cost is no object. Then this is, unequivocally the streaming box to get. No question. What makes it great? - It supports Dolby Vision: still a rarity in most streaming boxes (Apple TV 4k does support it) - Unique form factor: it’s a little cyclinder that easily hides behind your TV, it makes almost no noise. - It is FAST. If you think “my TV’s apps are just fine”, don’t use this. You’ll realize just how laggy that LG/Sony/Samsung/Vizio OS really is! - It has the best remote of any streamer: it lights up, it’s ergonomic, and it’s not the Apple TV remote. (which is one of the worst in the industry) - It has a gigabit Ethernet port. (the Ethernet ports built into most TVs are only a tenth as fast) - It has fast, AC WiFi if you don’t want to run a cable - It also acts like a Chromecast Ultra, so you can cast from many Android apps, the Chrome browser, and even iOS apps. - It has a microSD slot for your own, local media. (if you want to hook up a hard drive, you’ll need to shell out $50 more for the “Pro” version though) The Apple TV 4k is better if: - You purchased lots of content on iTunes - You want to watch Apple TV+ (there isn’t an app for the Shield, but that may change) - You don’t like “tinkering” with settings, at all, ever. If you need to run a Plex server (or need to hookup USB drives): - Get the Pro version. It’s an extremely competent and extremely cheap way to serve up Plex to other devices. Why am I only giving it 1 star? - Nvidia is still working out lots of kinks - CEC does not work properly (won't turn off Vizio TV) - Dolby Vision HDR doesn’t work with Vizio TVs (which is what I have) - SMB is broken: which means I can’t transfer files from my computer to the Shield - Many users are having problems installing the Disney+ app - Google Home thinks I have two Shields and therefore refuses to turn mine on or off with a voice command. No matter how many times I delete and re-add it, it will say either “I don’t know which Shield device to turn on/off” or “the Nvidia Shield is currently unavailable”. It gives the 2nd command when my Shield is powered up and I’m staring at the screen…

Don’t know where to even start. This is an amazing device. It has everything plus more. Great for streaming. Fast response. Also come with the nvidia gaming app that has a lot of games and is great for cloud gaming. You won’t be disappointed. Only bad thing I can find is the remote it’s in a weird shape and can’t sit it straight. But such an amazing device if you’re willing to spend the money for it. Won’t be disappointed.
