    2019 but still strong

Is it becoming outdated? Yes. However, it remains a strong contender among home streaming devices. Although it operates on Android TV (Google's earlier version of TV experiences), it's still impressive. NVIDIA will continue to provide updates, with the latest in January 2025. Its wired networking capability gives it an advantage over other streaming devices, and its compatibility with Steam Link and XBOX cloud gaming is an added bonus for enthusiasts. In summary, it's a worthwhile choice for anyone who enjoys digital media and desires a device robust enough to manage just about anything.

It’s fast, really fast. Forget trying to load stuff on your tv or Roku or google chrome cast, this beats it by a mile. I love the multitasking view too, makes it easy to close and switch applications. I can even use the two USB ports for audio and extra storage. The NVIDIA shield tv pro also gives you a TRUE 4k image with phenomenal up scaling for sub-4k content. Only thing I’ll buy extra alongside the tv is this or an Apple TV 4K.

By far the best android tv machine. Seems to have everything. A little expensive but has all the options you could want. Fastest tv box I have used and I have had 8 different options. Easy to use

Great product. Weird issue with Samsung soundbar?

I think this is probably one of the easier streaming devices to use once you learn the UI. Definitely prefer it over my old Roku Ultra. I did have one weird issue with it with my Samsung soundbar where audio was a little quieter than I expected. It appears to have its own volume setting (I found it within the Google Home app). Shield volume was at 47%, once i set it to 100% what I got previously at volume level 8 on my soundbar I now get at like a volume of 4. Weird issue but aside from that its ana amzing product and I would most definitely recommend it.

SHIELD AI upscaling to 4K RULES!

The AI video upscaling to 4K is OUTSTANDING! I was prepared to give up my streaming cable service because it only offers up to 1080p. The NVIDIA Shield changed that. I am massively impressed with what it can do. Additionally it is very quick and responsive to input. Only knock is that it is a little pricey (in my opinion worth it) and a little to light. Make sure that your HDMI cable is not to thick because it will be difficult to get it to stay down.

So much better than my Apple TV 4K. Better remote than Apple, faster, and Android TV in general is just the better OS. The 4K video upscaling is top notch. You want this if you have a 4K TV.

So right off the bat I had a handshake issue with the shield and my avr/tv. I was able to get that working. The shield does have some quirks, but so does every other streaming box. I still hands down prefer this to my previous favorite (roku ultra), and even over the apple 4k. If you want the most simplicity, stick with roku. For the best picture/audio quality, nvidia shield is where its at.

I have 3 of the older model and I got this one to go with my new LG big screen and sound bar because this model supports Dolby Atmos. Setup is easy and I like being able to control the TV, Soundbar and Shield TV all from one remote. The remote is a nice upgrade from the old style, using buttons for sound instead of the touch slide, motion activated back lit, etc.. and I will replace the remotes from my older Shields with this new remote when it is available for individual purchase. I primarily use my Shield TV to stream recorded TV from my PLEX server, HDHomerun for Live TV, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. I find extra value from the large available game library with Shield TV, when entertaining we like to play games like You Don't Know Jack.

Buying the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro was one of the best decisions I have made. I was skeptical if I needed it given my TV's built in Smart TV functionality. However, this box has brought my 4k TV to life. Not only is it extremely responsive and pleasurable to use, the AI upscaling is far better than any I have seen before. Watching upscaled 1080p content just looks beautiful on my 4K TV, and I no longer feel like I constantly have to hunt down 4K versions of everything. The AI upscaling alone has made it worth the purchase. Everything else feels like a cherry on top. The box is sleek, visually appealing, and discrete. I would never go without this device on my 4K TV.

The Nvidia Shield is, in my opinion the best device out there for streaming sand playing games on it is great as well. I still have the 1st gen Shield that I use as an NVR for my cameras. I don't use it as a Plex server, but is perfect for that. It's fast and responsive and the fact the Nvidia is still supporting the older Shield is a huge bonus. The new remote has buttons that are much needed from the older one. However, I would prefer that the remote be a candy bar shape.

    A niche device

I’ll keep it short; this is a niche device and has a specific use. Two scenarios; First use case; If you are going to use it ONLY for streaming services such as Netflix, Max, Disney, Hulu, Amazon, etc, then I would NOT recommend this device. The latest ATV is miles better both in picture quality and app stability. Nvidia Shield does not even support auto frame rate matching on these apps. This means you will see judder on any 24p content, if your TV doesn’t process it automatically (most 120hz TVs takes care of it). Also it doesn’t support AV1 format, which means you get no HDR on YouTube. Second use case; You want to go down the rabbit hole. Install Stremio with RD and you’ve got a dream machine. Beats any device in existence for this use case and it supports any lossless audio format with Dolby Vision and HDR10. Also don’t forget to get smarttube ;)

I have every streaming device. But this is my go to device for everything that isnt 4k. Its able to upscale 60hz content that is on the live streaamimg channel. The 2019 tube the cannot do this. Plus i was tired of the tube gui lagging. Shield cannot do vc-1 or vp9. Only roku, Google tv and fire tv 4k can decode vc-1. Apple tv cannot. Apple tv hands down best gui. The Ai nvidia upscaling is really that good to warrant a 5 year old device still being relevant.

This is my second device - feels the same as 2017 version. Works well with my Sony TV. Like the new remote much better than the old one. Very fast and responsive. Have not tried as a Plex Server yet.

Love it! I am able to stream movies, TV shows, and even games! Easy to use. Very smooth in comparison to the built in UI my Samsung TV has. Recommend it for sure! The upscale to 4K works awesome!
