I don't rate 5 Stars very often, nothing is perfect. But this Nvidia Shield just works. Responds quickly with remote like a brand new computer does. So easy easy to add apps with your Google Email Log on. I use this with many apps, but mostly Kodi. I watch mostly anything I like for NO subscription costs with Kodi. I cannot imagine anything better.

This thing is lightning fast. The only thing that I do not like is the remote; I love its ergonomics, but hate the Netflix button, as I find myself accidentally hitting up, thereby opening Netflix. Although, it is possible to remap this button with an app called Button Mapper by flar2.

This thing is a complete beast! I love it for not only streaming movies, but playing retro video games with Google apps that allow it. Also Ant Stream works well with the game controller and something to consider (it is like Netflix for Retro games, mostly Arcade, C64, Amiga, etc). Highly recommend this thing, we have 2 now!

I had the Nvidia Shield TV (the cylinder one) for almost a month, then returned it and bought the Pro. I don't play games or do any sideloading. I use it for streaming from Vudu, Netflix, Synology server, and Amazon Prime. That's it. It is also cabled to my router. With the AI turned on, the non-Pro version was dropping frames like crazy with the AI turned all the way up. It was also going to a black screen frequently when streaming, then after 10 seconds or so would resume (I'm assuming it was buffering). This was on 4K as well as bluray content. It also was very slow in booting up. I replaced it with the Pro and those problems are in the past. This starts up right away, no black screens when streaming, I have the AI set to max and no frame dropping either. I have played to older standard def movies and the AI makes them look like high def. I even stopped part way through the first one and watched a few minutes through my Roku Ultra to see the difference the AI makes. On the Roku it was soft and a bit fuzzy. Absolutely amazing how they have the AI working. This is a definite keeper. My only issue is with the Amazon app. It says I might need to upgrade the app, but even with the OS upgraded to current, the message will not go away. I have not been able to figure out how to upgrade the Amazon app individually either. But it has been playing the high def movies from Prime just fine.

I own them all at one time or another, and hands down the NVIDIA shield. Is simply the very best android streamer around, if you have cable tv , you have to rent there cable box and the cost of owning is roughly. what it cost you for renting your cable box for a year, buy the bonus is at the end you own the NVIDIA shield and you still have to rent your cable box.......

I didnt think it would matter in the age of smart TVs but if you want reliable and especially if you want HD streaming, this is the way to go.

I love how quickly the response is on this device. It's easy to navigate with the Google TV software as well. The most amazing part is the upscaling of non HD videos to HD, as in some Netflix programs as well as in Youtube. Makes a big difference in watching your programs and videos.

I had Nvidia Shield 2017 but would like to get Dolby Atmos from Netflix and Disney+, and Nvidia Shield has this feature on 2019 model, so I upgraded and really happy with the purchase. The remote is a nice bonus as well. Highly recommended if you have Dolby Atmos capable soundbar or sound system.

It's true that this isn't a huge improvement over the 2017 version but it is definitely still a improvement. The hardware has a very nice upgrade which keeps the shield on top of the pack. The remote may be the biggest point of improvement, i really like what they have done with it and have actually been able to get rid of a couple harmony remotes so that's kinda nice as well.

I have a new 85" tv. It looks great using integrated apps as well. However, I watch 80% sports and espn and the like often only broadcast in 720p. The tv upscales sports OK. But the shield takes it to a new level. If you watch anything that is not 4k you are watching lower quality tv than you could be if you were using this. Worth every penny.

Video fine, hi-res music not so much

Update 12-22-20: I now have quite a bit more experience with this device and am faulting the hi-res audio hardware a little less as the main problem seems to be a dearth of good music apps containing a good equalizer on the Android TV OS store that supports this Nvidia hardware. I highly prefer the Android Onkyo HF app (has to be sideloaded on this TV OS device) as it works like I do by supporting local folders and has an excellent equalizer- but it has way too many issues to be used on this Nvidia Android TV device (but works great on my regular “non TV OS” Android tablet.) I was able to sideload "Music Player 10 Bands Equalizer Audio Player_v1.1.8" which is fairly stable on this Nvidia hardware, has a reasonable equalizer that works and partially supports how I use my local FLAC music files differentiated in folders based on genre. I upgraded my rating to 4 stars due to this fairly functional app. But to me it is a glaring issue with the lack of significant hi-res music apps on a device that has been around since 2015. So for local music files listening, I will have to use my Samsung S6 tablet with a hi-res USB DAC dongle (and Onkyo HF app) or my Onkyo hi-res music player connected to the AVR which defeats the purpose of purchasing this Nvidia device with a hi-res music player built-in.
