Plays 4k HDR and is a totally open Android device. I use it for emulation, file streaming, etc.

I bought this thinking that it would be a great way to play some of the action games that Android has available. The games that I play on my tablet and phone are not available on this console. I have contacted the various producers and asked to support the NVidia shield console and have yet to hear anything back. While the games that are available on it are good, and control well, it is not what I was looking forward to having. But I am making the best of it. Bluestacks on the computer has become a better option.

I love this product! Even tho it's a little pricey it is worth getting. The price is reasonable.

The NVIDIA Shield TV is awesome! I own Roku 3's, PS3, PS4, and Sony Google TV. This is a great addition to my gadget family. It comes pre-loaded with PLEX (great app), and can install KODI, TVMC which makes it an all around great streamer. The gaming selection isn't bad either and I haven't experienced any lag (150 Mbps internet service). The unit is FAST! Hopefully this will not be forgotten by developers any time soon much like the Sony Google TV was. Great job NVIDIA!

The SHIELD Android TV absolutely blows away every other Android TV box, tablet, and phone away, period as far as gaming and media playback are concerned. The X1 is an absolute beast. We're getting (late) Xbox 360 and PS3 and greater-quality games, as well as 5.1 (and I imagine 7.1 if you have a receiver) surround sound with Kodi (finally in Google Play store, too) and Netflix*, as well as 4K recording (30FPS) and playback/gameplay (60FPS). It might not push the same number of polygons as an Xbox One or PS4 (though it does have better looking games than Wii U), but it's the only mass market console right now that can play 4K resolution. I have the 16GB version since you can use an external hard drive (I have a 4TB Western Digital My Book attached to mine, it works perfectly with no work required). Never had an issue with it (had it since June 5th, 2015). If you're on the fence, get off of it, there are no negative reviews, because it's awesome. Not to mention you can stream PC games over WiFi or Ethernet at 1080p either from your own PC, or from Nvidia Grid gaming service. Amazingly, this actually works quite well. WiFi performance is spectacular on the SHIELD itself too. My router is upstairs, my SHIELD is downstairs, inside a closed entertainment center, and I get a completely consistent 80Mbps from my modem (which is my connection speed with Bright House), even with just a "good" signal. *5.1 surround in Netflix depends on your TV being able to pass through EAC3 audio, which is uncommon, or your receiver accepting EAC3 over HDMI and sending the video back to your TV, which is less uncommon, but still pretty rare. This is, however, a limitation of the Netflix app for Android itself, and has nothing to do with the SHIELD, and Nvidia is said to be working with Netflix to fix this issue.

Unable to get 5.1 surround sound on any movies on netflix. I do have a hdmi 2.0 and hdcp2.2 tv. I get 5.1 on the netflix app on my other devices ps3, tv itself, and roku.
