I purchased this for the music and movies. Excellent Blue tooth conductivity, processing power is okay but movie apps tend to stall often. I also own a Amazon Fire TV which works much better (no Stalling) for half the price.

Very FAST and Preferred Media Player

I have a PS4, Roku 2, Apple TV 4th gen, Nexus Player and this device. This is by far the FASTEST in accessing and streaming content. With the addition of the Plex Server I can finally get rid of using my high energy PC as a server. This uses about 4watts at idle compared to my pc's 50-100watts. The shield itself works great but does occasionally have bugs and glitches such as freezing/controller disconnects/apps stopping etc. It is by no means perfect. I use it mainly as a Plex Server which does work fine for about 90% of the time. Sometimes I'll try to access the server with another device and the server will be missing. It can easily play and stream Blu Ray rips (30gb size) at original quality. To expand the storage you have to add a USB 3.0 External or MicroSD Card as an internal storage. It has 4k and wireless AC MIMO so both specs are up to date. The controller itself is bulky but surprising is very easy to use for navigating and volume controller. I did buy the remote but returned it because it constantly kept disconnecting. Overall, this is a solid purchase but does have bugs. I do wish the price was at about $150 and came with both remote and controller. I hope future updates address the freezing and stability issues.

Replaced my Xbox One and PS4

Let me disclose that I am a casual gamer. I used to be a lot more hardcore and would be a diehard PS4 fan. I just did not have the time to invest into the games that were coming out (The Withcer 3, Bloodbourne, etc). I got rid of my mainstream consoles and found this through a Google search. Let me just say I LOVE this console. The overall experience is excellent. I used a wired connection directly from my router and I have a 5Ghz internet that is capable of streaming 150Mbps. There has ben little to no lag. I have seen it stutter twice in the two months that I have had it. I signed up for the monthly gaming service that is comes with and right out of the box you get three months free. The game library does not have blockbuster titles, but 60 games on demand at your fingertips and growing is pretty sweet. Then the other side, the android games. There are a ton of great games on this side including Doom 3 and Metal Gear revengence. All games run smooth and look beautiful. You get a PC gaming experience in your lving room for a fraction of the cost. I only use this as a gaming device and I could not be any more happy. I would reccommnend this to anyone. Ditch the big console and get with this!

Beats Gbox, Minix, Apple TV and any other box.

Amazing piece of equipment. I've owned Matricom Gbox, Minix, Apple Tv and mainly use it for Kodi, Netflix, Hulu, Spotify and a few other apps. Mainly Kodi. Noticed trying to stream HD on the Gbox had stuttering issues. My Gbox has XMBC pre-installed and found out it won't upgrade to Kodi. The shield blows it away. No stutter, instant streaming. ONLY PROBLEM. When I received the package in the mail from UPS I opened up the box and it appears the shield had been used. There was dust/dirt on the body of the shield. Controller's protective film had been removed and replaced which had dirt/dust all over the backside of the adhesive side. Controller also had fingerprints on the buttons. Obviously a used product that had been returned and then shipped to me. I returned it same day to Best Buy to switch it out for one from the actual store.

    The best Android TV

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Nvidia Shield is the best Android TV streaming box available. The only major thing missing is any kind of support from Amazon. Performance is snappy and it is more than capable of playing any android game and even has some Nvidia exclusives. Streaming games from an Nvidia equiped gaming PC also works quite well. There is no such thing as a perfect streaming box... However the Nvidia shield is about as close as you can get.

Wanted to update my old Roku 3. It ran well just got tired of the basic ugly interface. The shield is the total opposite. Android TV looks polished and modern. Ive tried... Plex, Kodi, Chromcast, Emulators, Netflix, Hulu and more. Everything runs perfect. Ive had it about a month and not one crash or reboot. Remote is nice, controller is a tad bulky but I'm use to it now. Love how the remote and controller have volume controls and headphone jacks on them. Mine only complaint is Amazon Prime Videos. You have to sideload the Sony TV prime apk but it works great as well. Not Nvidia's fault. Go ahead drop the $200. You won't be sorry.

I was excited about the prospect of streaming games and the streaming media capabilities. Sadly, it doesn't quite meet up to the hype of everything as a whole. I was happy to learn that I could still return the item for a full refund.

Got connection problem at first but then figured out replacing a router with dual band 802.11n or 802.11ac solved all the issues. The device operates smooth and delivers hight quality(4k) video stream. By the way, the Google play redemption should go to http://shield.nvidia.com/redemption-instructions instead of finding a physical card inside the box.

Best Android TV box for kodi

I bought the shild about two weeks ago. After getting use to the controller that it comes with, I noticed that this thing flys on the performance side of thing. I don't play a lot of games but when I do it cool to have the ability to click on a game and play. No disc needed. As far as running kodi. It's a beast. Very fast. I love it. I'm going to buy another one soon for my bedroom.

I am amazed that this came with the remote as well as the controller. I thought the remote was $50 extra and was not included. Now I don't have to spend the extra money on the remote. I mainly bought this to replace my Fire TV Stick and Chromecast and consolidate the two devices. This fits the bill perfectly since it has Chromecast capabilities built in and is able to download apps. This thing is responsive and SMOKING FAST! Since this thing has a faster processor and wired internet capabilities it performs much better than my Chromecast did and does NOT lag at all. Since this has the Google Play Store I can get all of the apps I had on my Fire TV and more (except for Amazon specific apps which I don't really care about). Installing Kodi on this thing is a breeze unlike on the Fire TV which does not have the Play Store. The best thing I like about this is the fact that I can play games from my PC on this using Game Stream. It works just like a console This thing also has the ability to act as a Media Server via Plex if you need that functionality. I really like the functionality and feel of the remote and controller as well. The voice search also comes in handy and works really good. The only issue I have had with this was at first I could not get the controller to to respond. I performed a reset by holding the button down on the controller for 15 seconds, then running an update on the Shield, and the controller works flawlessly now. I think it is definitely worth the $200 I paid for it. With the ability to expand the memory via USB drive or SD Card I do not see a need to get the 500GB Pro model.

The Nvidia Shield is an incredibly powerful and versatile streaming device that is perfect for gaming and entertainment. This device has a powerful processor and graphics card, making it capable of running games and streaming video content with ease. The Shield also has a great selection of apps, including popular streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, as well as a large collection of games that can be purchased through the Google Play Store. One of the best features of the Shield is its ability to stream games from a PC to the device, which makes it perfect for gaming on the go. The device also comes with a controller that is comfortable and responsive, making it easy to play games on the Shield. Additionally, the Shield is compatible with 4K content, which means you can enjoy ultra-high-definition video and gaming on your TV. Another great aspect of the Nvidia Shield is its sleek and modern design. The device is small and compact, making it easy to store and transport. The device also has a clean and minimalist look, which makes it a great addition to any living room.

This hasn't break down on us yet. We own this for several years. Great addition to the older non smart TV. The product has all the apps we normally use, and you can play good quality games with this. I am sure the upgraded version if probably even better.

    Incredible media device

I've been waiting for a great Google/Android TV device for what seems like years, this is the device I waited for. Not only does it stream Netflix, YouTube et al perfectly but it also has a bunch of Android games that look amazing on the big screen - I've been playing Riptide GP2 a bunch. Add to all that Kodi (formally known as XBMC) and it now indexes and plays all the movies, TV Shows and music stored on my WD My Cloud drive also! The best part is that Android TV is still in it's infancy and Google is working on bringing more and more cool stuff to the platform. Must buy accessories would be a decent sized micro SD card to boost the internal storage and the Shield Remote.

I was looking for a streaming box to run kodi and some emulators since my amazon fire tv was running pretty slow. I saw this nvidia shield and read the reviews so i decided to give ut a try. This little box is amazing! No lag during streaming. Even when running kodi. Also i can stream my pc games since i have an nvidia graphics card in my pc. Also i comes with a controller and a separate remote and there was a promotion for a second controller free. I didnt know aboutthis promo until i picked up the system at my local best buy and i was given an additional controller. I also plugged in an external hard drive i had in my house and since its running android 6 marshmallow i was able to expand the storage as internal storage. Awesome!!! You cant go wrong with this little machine.

    Best Andriod TV available

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I made this purchase after a friend of mine tried desperately to get me to switch from my Amazon Fire TV stick months ago. He talked about how you could do everything on the Nvidia Shield, that it was the only media device I would need save for playing an actual disc, bragged about its processing speed etc... which sounded good, but not enough to get me over the initial sticker shock of $199. Fast forward a few months and my curiosity in 4k media grew and had me searching for upgrades to my fire tv stick(which does not support 4k). While there are several big names in the 4k market with Amazon Fire TV(not stick) and Roku along with a slew of generic andriod tv boxes that state they can run 4k. I decided, after much research, to listen to my friend and give the Nvidia Shield a chance. It was the only system that ran 4k at 60fps and promised the best in performance, from a trusted and we'll respected brand. I've now had the Nvidia Shield for about one month and all I can say is WOW. I should've listened to my friend months ago. This thing is awesome. Before the initial setup upon opening the box I could tell this is a quality piece of tech. High production value with an aluminum body, led power on indicators, a serious game pad and a sleek remote came with the purchase. All very well built, comparable to the quality you'd expect to see from a console, if not better. I know you asking, "that's all great, but how does it perform"? I start by saying I have an awesome isp that consistently runs >110mbps so as far as playing videos obviously I had no troubles there, and the 4k from Netflix and YouTube worked splendidly. I think what impressed me the most was the fluidity at which the programs interchanged going from Netflix, to YouTube, to games and so forth. Serious processing speed that made my Amazon Fire TV stick look and feel obsolete. I'd liken it to the xbox one in this respect, how you can switch from a game, to a movie, to the home screen without having to load out or close any program. Nvidia Shield also sports the Google Play Store, which admittedly doesn't carry a lot of the titles you'll find on the mobile platform but was a MAJOR upgrade to Amazon's very limited store. The 16gb internal space was a little underwhelming but I had a 128gb micro SD to slot in so that, for me, was a non issue. With that extra space I jam packed my Shield with emulators galore. I wanted to find something I disliked just so I could vehemently tell my friend he was wrong but I couldn't find any glaring weakness. Seriously, even my wife likes it!
