Good Now - Will Be Great in time.I
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am using the Shield to play Live TV from Comcast Cable via the Live Channels app and my HD Homerun Prime Cable card Tuner. Works great! The Shield can sideboard many Android apps thar aren't in Android TV store yet. Once Kodi and other apps mature a bit this will be the power users streamer of choice. For my usage case Silicondust's software is the key app and while it works well with Android TV Live Channels there are some issues getting 5.1 audio on my Dennon. There are others small issues. My HTPC using WMC o JRIVER has better DVR functionality but as the Shield software matures it can hold its own. The Shield with its instant on is much more convenient then booting up the Home Theater PC. I like it.

Amazing!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I usually do not write reviews but i had to for this one. In the past i have owned a chromecast as well as an Amazon Firestick. My wife and i love to watch movies and shows so we decided to upgrade to the Nvidia Shield and it is amazing. Really easy set up and super fast! It easily links up to your gmail account for those that have android devices. I would definitely recommend!

Wow
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Flipping awesome. Cut your cable, get this install Kodi with addons. The voice controls are sooo good, sideloads any app u want not in the store. Look on youtube, this thing does so more than a worthless Netflix app box. A deal at twice the price. Paired with my LG PW800 projector 120" screen crystal clear#why ppl still buy TV's is beyond me.#

Android TV is not there yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because it was the most powerful Android TV device in the market. While that is true, the platform isn't there yet. The experience is limited by some of the same shortcomings that affect Android tablets. Different screen sizes mean developers have to code for all of those and sometimes, the apps don't work like they are supposed to. There was one app, where, unless I connected a mouse to the device, there was no way for me to get to the submit button after putting in my username and password. By default the OK button (or A button) would only invoke the 'Forgot Password' link. Now, this is a mistake of the developer as well as the platform. On a touch screen, it would be easy to select submit, but on a big screen, the same interface doesn't work. Google would do well to take a leaf out of Roku's playbook where the feel of the apps and the rules for navigate them are fairly standardized. As a gaming console, this thing was ok. I really did not like the fact that they had capacitive touch controls for 'Home', 'Back' & 'Play/Pause' right next to the analog controls. I kept hitting them accidentally ALL THE TIME. My hands are average sized. Pros: The graphics performance was very good. The voice search was very good Video player - Great. Plex app bundled - works great (faster than Roku for load time). Cons: Big one: The ethernet port would work if I connected directly to a switch connected to the modem, but if the same switch was connected to a powerline network, it couldn't detect an ethernet connection. My Roku has no problems with this setup. Android TV is definitely not there yet as a TV platforms. Some apps work great. Others suck.

best streamer period!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I previously use a Roku 3. I bought this last night and hooked it up and it is amazing. It is lightning fast and very responsive. I love the fact that it has an Android based system which allows me to add Kodi. Unlike the Roku it is able to process high definition audio. I am also very excited because I do have a gaming PC with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 video card and this thing is able to play all of my PC games using my television and my home audio system through my gigabit Ethernet connection. This is by far the best media device you could put on your home entertainment system that is out there. Very very very happy

Nvidia Shield w/remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just received my Nvidia shield. I purchased when it was on sale last week and the remote was included in addition to the controller. I'm using this for streaming tv only and the quality of the pictures and response is very nice with the testing I've done so far. I'm new to the streaming tv world, so still working on downloading the proper apps for my program interests

Amazing!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picked this up a few days ago and it even came with the smaller shield remote the one that normally costs extra, so I was luck to get and extra controller and the shield remote for free!

Worth the extra money over a roku 4
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Till the roku 4 came out my house had become a roku streaming house but after getting a roku 4 for my new Samsung 4k TV i have given up on them. The shield TV seems to handle 4k resolution much better then the roku 4 as i would get choppy video randomly when playing netfilx, hulu or plex. The only downside i found so far with the shield TV is no support for amazon prime by default but luckily can be sideloaded. Setup was a breeze and my package came with a shield remote for free.

Good for Game Streaming and Video Watching, but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this because I have a gaming rig with GTX980 with games that I want to play on the tv (both single player and multiplayer couch coop games). I have a asus wireless ac router, so I am streaming wirelessly from the PC to the gamestream. I would recommend this console to anyone with or planning on having a gaming rig as PC definitely has better graphics than current consoles. Pros: Decent Hardware Specs, Good Streaming Performance, OK multi-player (couch coop support - requires another nvidia controller), Kodi support is great, Enough Storage space (no need for the Pro version) Cons: Poor Android TV OS (quite limited app-wise when compared to Android on Phone/Tablet), GameStream does have bugs, sometimes I need to restart the PC because the network lags permanently (this might be fixed with a wired LAN connection, and software QoS updates).

Denon Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The shield currently has the best hardware and support for several Dolby digital formats (dd+, DD MA ect). One major issue is screen flickering while connected to my Denon x4000. I am not the only one having this issue: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/902713/shield-android-tv/denon-avrx-2000-av-receiver-flickering-screen-when-16gb-shield-tv-connected-/post/4760808/#4760808 I even tried an hdmi switch to help a possible handshake issue to no avail. This would of easily replaced my htpc box if not for flickering issues. At this time I would not recommend this if you own a Denon receiver.

Not for Critical Picture Quality Eyes
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Forget arguments about 4K, and hardware specs ... how about actual side by side picture quality evaluation? I purchased a Shield and connected it to my 65" Panasonic plasma and even my wife could tell the reduced picture quality vs. our Apple TV 3rd gen. Test video was Smithsonian Channel, Air America - Vermont. That program is high quality 1080 HD content. The Shield is a cool device, but forget about it if you have any sort of critical eye towards picture quality. Google a bit and you will find other people finding the same thing with Netflix 4K Shield vs. Native Netflix player in their TV.

Posted .Hi,
We’re sorry to hear about your bad experience with Smithsonian video but happy to hear about your good experience with the other channels and app. The Smithsonian Channel is not yet officially supported on Android TV so your source for that context was likely an unofficial standard definition source. If you have any further questions or needs, please contact our 24/7 customer care team at www.nvidia.com/nvcc. The number of supported Android TV apps and games are growing quickly.

Nvidia Android Shield TV vs Steam Link
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought both of these products specifically for the purposes of testing streaming game performance. All tests were done using a wired host - wired client configuration for the fastest speeds. The host computer is running a Haswell Core i5, GTX 970, and Windows 10. The client television is 1080p. Did not test with 4k (as the Steam Link does not do 4k). Borderlands: The Pre Sequel (High-Very High settings) - Steam Link had no noticeable lag or artifacting. I couldn't tell I was playing on a remote client. However, possibly due to a hardware problem, the game would hard freeze every 30m to 1hr. Shield performed poorly in terms of lag and artifacting. Edges of the screen would blur and latency showed 25ms+ The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Medium settings) - Both Shield and Steam Link showed slight artifacting and image quality was similar. When standing in an area for a minute with slowly moving plants, for example, colors might blur slightly. and pixelate. Overall image quality was very good. However, Shield still had a large latency (25ms+) while the Steam Link hovered mostly around 5-10ms. Through my experience, I would recommend the Steam Link if you are looking for a pure host-client game streaming experience as long as you only need to stream 1080p. Steam Link graphics on Borderlands and The Witcher were very comparable to playing on a desktop. Also, for the extra 150$ I would expect better latency and image quality from Nvidia.
