May not be totally necessary since the controller that comes with does the same thing pretty much. I got one any way and love it.

I have three Shield TV's and have this remote in each room... the controller that comes with it is great, but this is awesome to use one handed, use with headphones, the volume rocker is sleek... the metal build quality of this is outstanding! And the battery life on this last 10 times longer than the controller.

So let me start by saying love this remote. Because it has a feature that no other remote has?? Which is once you plug your earpiece into it. The tv mutes and you can only hear the tv through the remote. This is great for me while watching late night games and movies while my wife sleeps peacefully!!!

So many features packed into such a small remote. I love that I can plug my headset into this remote.

I purchased this on clearance because apparently the newer version is out, but that version is not as good so I have heard... So far, this is SO much better than trying to fumble with the included controller. The only con is the price, even on clearance it's too expensive!

this was a great remote to use on my nvidia shield as a set top box. it is a little thin and small so it might be easily lost if you have a lot of remotes, but it does the job. It's about the same size size as a roku and amazon tv remote, but it's a little thinner.

Remote is small, sleek looking and portable. Not to bulky and does not take up much space.

If you told me 5 years ago that I'd be siting on my sofa at 10pm telling everyone at bestbuy.com that I'd just bought the best HTPC controller for the ShieldTV, I would have tgought you were nuts. But tbe truth is that nothing beats this remote for the Shield.

I love how you can slide your thumb up and down the remote to change the volume.

I'm glad I got it free with the shield. I don't recommend getting the shield without it. I do wish they had the led change color when it was getting low on power so I know when I need to plug it in again to charge it, but it works really well.

If you own a Shield and not this remote you are seriously missing out. The battery last a long time About a weeks of use for me. The quality is very good and the mic for the voice commands works very well. Zero issues with this product.

This makes it much easier to control my Nvidia shield. Of course now they pack it in with all the new models so unless you have an old one you don't need to purchase it. Good luck finding it if you have an old one.
