The hardware in the nViidia Shield TV is way more robust than most competing android based TV streamers. Video doesn't stutter or ghost and the surround sound has worked flawlessly. Movies and streaming live TV are produced well enough for a great home theater experience.

First of all, this thing is sexy. It's the best looking device in its class and performs just as well. The included remotes work and are equally as sexy. They even have a volume touch pad which is nice. Setup is easy other than waiting for the updates to finish, but that's no big deal. I tried Kodi, Netflix, Plex, and Amazon Video, and they all worked with no issues. HBOGO was not available for me since I have Comcast and they don't support it (or my PS3..). I downloaded some emulators for SNES and MAME, but the controller lag was terrible, especially for SNES. I tried the device on 3 TVs and my PC monitor, all on game mode, but the controller delay makes this an item I will most likely be returning. MAME was much more tollerable, and the reason I bought this, but for $199 it's just not worth it. Game streaming was decent, but again not worth $199. I'll wait for it to go on sale if I really want to give it another shot, and I'd recommend you wait as well. If it wasn't for the controller issue, which apparently is a big hit or miss with peoples' tvs, I would keep this.

My second one of these shields is marginally better than the first edition but let down by it’s limited storage (16 gb) and three year old processor it also doesn’t have support for all commercial codecs and is not the media player we were hoping for as an alternative to a PS3/PS4 The remote is a joke but will take third party controllers. I would have waited for a revision if our PS hadn’t died. Works well with Kodi, plex, and HD HOMERUN tuners if that is a desire, but 5.1 sound is difficult to consistently get right, even with VLC.

Great tv streaming box, good quality imagen on movies & games.

Love my Shield for the most part. The gaming controller is asking the best I've used. WiFi reception is marginal, and it's not as reliable with Plex as my Rokus, but as an all-rounder, it's great if you only want one device to do everything. I still find myself flipping over to my Roku for Plex when the Shield gets whiny about the wifi signal. They're positioned side by side, so it's not like the Roku had been placed for optimal reception. It's just superior in that respect. But would I buy it again? You bet.

Upgraded from the firestick for kodi streaming and this works so much better. But there are definitely cheaper options online. Not sure how they compare.
