I Bought an Open Box PC
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is garbage, it stops every once in awhile. I was going to return it, but I couldn't find the time to do it and its also a hassle to go back to best buy and return it. So now im stuck with this garbage.

Don't do it. Just don't.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Garbage, Absolute garbage. Literally every internal component has had to be replaced. The only positive is that the case is beautiful.

Beast!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always preferred HP desktops, and this one certainly doesn't let me down. It is a brick (and not the bad kind!) The machine when un-boxing felt solid. Then I was surprised to see that the left hand side of the case (that you can easily open with the push of the button, mind you!) is either glass or a glass-like plastic.. Though, I think it is glass. I thought to myself "I wonder if it lights up inside??" more on that later. The first thing I had to to do was install another SSD I transplanted from another PC. Again, with the push of a button, the glass side of the case was easily removed. There were power connector cables, but no SATA cables that I could see. Thankfully, again, I had one since I was transplanting the drive from an older (HP) PC. Once done with that, the case went back on just as easily as it came off. Then it was your normal setup - connect the main power cord and the included mouse and keyboard. The keyboard, I'm not really a fan of, as it is the standard smaller keyboards that HP includes with most of their PC's. Which should be fine for most, but I'll be upgrading that soon. I also connected an external SSD to the USB-C (!!!) port on the back of the unit. Speaking of USB ports, it seems there are a zillion of them. Other than the already mentioned USB-C, there are a ton more. And they are all USB 3.0. Some of which are the "Super Speed" variety. Now.. Time to boot up. To my delight, the inside of the PC and the outside "omen" insignia glowed a brilliant and evil looking bright red. And unlike the description, the lighting IS customizable! Within the Omen control center you have many pre-set settings - for them to pulse, blink, breathe, etc. There are 3 color combo presets, or you can create your own - adjust the speed of color change. Or, if you just want both to be blue, for instance - you can do that too. Ok, sorry about going on that little rant. The PC booted incredibly fast. The SSD installed isn't your regular variety. It appears to be an NvME drive - which would account for the insanely fast boot-up speeds. Even setting up windows took a matter of minutes (as in 2-3!). The hardware itself is great. Coming from a machine w/ 32GB of ram, I thought I would notice a difference. But really, the Obelisk seems to somehow manage the ram better. The regular 1TB hard drive that you can use for storage is a 7200RPM so that is definitely a plus as well. The I7, and the GTX 1060 didn't stutter with any game I threw at it. Even at Ultra settings. Perhaps this may be TMI, but I am in love with this machine. It has the looks and the power that anyone could ever need. Even if you are not a gamer, this PC is for you!

Great machine for a content producer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer at a pre-Black Friday sale over a month ago, and I have to report that I'm very satisfied with it so far. It's WAY, WAY faster than the laptop I am replacing, which sat on my desk and wasn't mobile. I've had zero issues with it. It's quiet, which is important when I'm recording (I am a host and editor of podcasts). I added an existing SSD drive that I already owned as a third hard drive, and that was easy to do after adding an SSD mount to the drive itself, but the computer doesn't come with a power cable for the empty drive bay, so remember that if you are planning to do the same. I haven't pushed it too much when it comes to gaming, but as a content producer, it has greatly exceeded my expectations. The only other things negative I can say about it so far, other than the lack of a power cable for the empty drive bay, are that it doesn't have a card reader, but I knew that going in and that the USB-C port is on the back of the machine, not on top. If you can get it on sale, get it.

Great up gradable system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Runs fast. Very quiet operation. The light effects are a cool feature. I added a second storage of 2TB SSD now it is lightning fast with ample storage. In the future I plan to add a VNAND stick for even quicker access storage. Plenty of room to upgrade this machine for the long haul.

Very nice looking PC but limited expansion options
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this computer is very nice looking right out of the box. The case is very sleek mid-tower size so it takes up a small footprint and packs a punch. The setup out of the box and through the initial Windows 10 configuration was very quick. I had it out of the box, setup, and logged into Windows within 30 minutes. The hardware inside is very clean and I have gone with Intel Processors the last 4 times I have built or bought a PC in the past 10 years. They just seemed to perform better than AMD in my opinion and the Core i7 is hands down one of the best CPU's out there period. The graphics card this comes with has no problems running my 30" LG 4K Monitor and playing Forza Horizon 4 in 4K is AMAZING! This game really shows off the power of this PC and the GTX 1060 Nvidia Graphics card this comes with. Time to boot to be in Windows is maybe 25 seconds, very quick boot up and minimal bloatware slowing it down which was nice to not have to use a program like PC Decrapifier to remove bloatware like back in the day. The LED lighting effects are also very cool and the Omen control panel allows for multiple customization options for not only the inside lighting that looks very cool though the side window but also for the Omen emblem on the front of the computer. You can set it to automatically change colors or stay static as well and pulse as if the computer is breathing. Very cool effects and the lighting shows off how clean the inside of this case is. Having said how nice this PC is there are a few shortcomings to be aware of: it has really no expansion options other than adding one more hard drive. There are zero additional PCI slots on the motherboard which appears to be a custom HP design. There are a lot of USB ports but I would have liked the ability to add an expansion card or run two graphics cards is SLI or Crossfire mode but that won't be possible on this PC. There also isn't an optical drive so burning DVD's or BluRay's with this PC will require a USB attached optical drive. If the ability to add additional hardware cards or an optical drive isn't a concern then this PC is a nice ready to run out the box computer to handle gaming and watching movies or surfing the web with ease. If you prefer the ability to upgrade components or need an optical drive you can find many other computers in this price range that offer much more. I would not recommend to friends or family to get this over the other computers available based on these limitations.

Highly Recommended, but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solid PC. Bought this so my daughter can plan Fortnite. Very glad I purchased. NOTE: On the first day we were done using the PC, I powered it off for the night. The next morning, I powered the PC up and it made 3 long beeps followed by 3 short beeps. I had read reviews where people were told to reseat the RAM and Video Card. I did that but to no avail. I ended up updating the BIOS firmware, and that did the trick! If you run into this beeping problem, update the BIOS before taking it to Geek Squad and losing your PC for 1 to 5 days, or even longer.

Great out of the box!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up this desktop a few days ago when it was on sale. I had been looking for a more entry level/upgradable computer for gaming. I have not been disappointed yet, minus one issue. While playing Elder Scrolls Online, both on high and ultra settings, I noticed my gpu temps average around 83-80. I have seen some other reviews mentioning high temps, and I’m planning on adding an extra fan or something to it to try and help. It’s a little disappointing, I was hoping to not have to make any changes for a while. I’m not that computer parts savvy, so if you have any suggestions on what I can do to improve this please comment. Overall I really think that this was a great pre Black Friday deal (the price was $899). Once I fix the cooling issue I think it will be an excellent pc!

Excellent out of the box, casual gamer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So first I'm going to admit 2 things; I'm coming from a Mac environment, and I cried when I got World of Warcraft going on this thing. Found on sale for $999, looks like I missed the $850 a year ago but still - probably not a $1300 rig for a couple reasons other posters have covered (fan space, though liquid cooling easy to add, and the video card memory). Would absolutely recommend this for a box store purchase if you need a gaming rig and are not yet at the place where you're comfortable building your own. Out of the box it started up immediately, did the non-standard set-up for privacy reasons, loaded my Razer, Blizzard, and Bethesda software, and- yes- changed the case colors. I've seen other reviews say the software doesn't work but it does: use the Omen Command Center app, you may have to change them one at a time and reopen the app, but I've got a violet logo and case LEDs now. WoW is running - here's where I cried - on recommended settings (5) at 112 fps. My 4 year old Mac got me used to practical game play at 22-26 fps, groups/dungeons/raids at 15 fps. I've decided to treat my eyeballs from now on and am going to run my PVE at 7/ultra and dungeons/raids at 5/high. ESO is running at ultra and giving me 90+ fps. I hung out at a dueling area and two sets of two were bashing the heck out of each other, full magical effects in play, 86 fps. I cried *again* y'all. It's not running hot, it's under a desk with 10" clearance all sides and the fans haven't kicked in yet. I did need to update the GeForce driver, this was made incredibly simple though; WoW told me I had a driver issue, links were provided, and theHP OS guided me to use the GeForce Experience interface. This isn't the Windows experience of 20 years ago, the wizards are quite helpful. I recommend hitting a search engine for suggestions on controlling the Windows 10 privacy settings. So, as a former Mac user who installed games on a whim and became a casual sadface, I did *not* know what I was missing, and I do recommend this as a computer for anyone who wants to play games and enjoy the artwork at high settings for a change without breaking the bank or becoming a PC build specialist, or if someone wants to buy this for their baby-gamer. 112 fps y'all!

From a Casual Gamer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not someone who builds computers (I leave that to my brother), but I do know a few things about gaming and what you want in a good gaming experience. I play World of Warcraft, and I have to say, I've never had a smoother gaming experience. There's no slow reaction time or freezing up, and I almost feel like I'm playing a whole new game now. Aside from that, this is a mid-level gaming computer that packs a pretty solid punch. The full retail price seems a little on the high side to me because there are a LOT of options these days and a lot of computers that are more customizable than this one. However, the Omen delivers what it promises. It's got an excellent processor in the i7, graphics are on point, and I love that this model has the SSD. The design is sleek and looks good sitting up on a desk. Look for it on sale and you won't be disappointed.

Great for gaming, work, and media!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This desktop is truly top of the line for gaming, working, and all media forms. The graphics are crisp and clean. The processor is quick and able to perform multiple functions at once. I even like the casing it comes in which is transparent on the side so you can see all the parts and to top it off, it glows a faint red. This desktop is about an average size. I like that the USB ports are on the top versus the middle or back. It makes things easier to connect to it. It is whisper quiet. I wouldn't be able to tell it was running had it not been for the glowing light. Only downside is I wish there were more USB ports on the front.
