Customers are saying
Customers consistently note the excellent performance and quiet operation of the OMEN Obelisk Gaming Desktop. Many appreciate its attractive case design and the relatively affordable price, especially during sales. However, some users express concerns regarding the cooling system, GPU performance, and the adequacy of the power supply. The limited RAM is also a point of contention for some buyers.

HP Hardware Beep Codes Ruin The Experience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TLDR (too long, didn't read): I bought this PC during the Black Friday deals, had a rough shipping experience, tussled with HP hardware beep codes on three separate PCs (returned twice before giving up), and had to return the desktop while shouldering the opportunity cost of missed Black Friday component deals for building my own PC instead of buying this pre-built one. I would not recommend buying this product. I'm not too much of a tech guy so I'll just summarize my experience below: - I ordered this desktop, 2 monitors, and a set of $100 desktop speakers at the same time but the parts were listed to ship separately. Upon attempted shipment every part needed to be signed for (though Best Buy only listed the desktop as truly needing a signature) and were only available to ship during the regular work week business hours (mon-fri, roughly 8-5). This posed a difficulty to me as these limitations were never mentioned and I work during that time so I'm normally unable to stay at my house and receive the packages (I live alone and do not know my neighbors well enough to ask for help). I contacted both the shipping services and Best Buy and nothing could be done to deviate from these hours without additional cost to me (the shipping company could store my items, but at a large additional cost). In addition, the order could not be returned to a local Best Buy for pickup though the representative I talked to at Best Buy was quite nice. Luckily I didn't have particularly urgent items to accomplish at work the next day and I came down sick - so I managed to get my order. I will pick up at the store in the future. - This PC worked fine for several days and then began experiencing hardware beep codes, in a pattern of 3 long and 3 short beeps repeated 5 times before logins. This would not happen for every startup - mainly occurring the first start-up after getting home from work (computer was not stored in adverse environment). A little research found this is a 3:3 HP beep code pattern for a hardware issue, specifically "The embedded controller has timed out waiting for BIOS to return from graphics initialization"; found here (https://support.hp.com/ee-en/document/bph07107). I took video of the issue. - The PC was returned for another identical PC, but which experience the same problem as soon as it was started (before any software customization of the PC). That PC was returned and another PC was started at Best Buy by Geek Squad and didn't experience any concerns when they started it, but the day after it experienced another beep code issue and I decided to just get my money back at this point (we're on PC #3). I wasn't willing to risk any sort of hardware issue that came pre-built into the computer and I wasn't willing to mess with the computer in case I voided any possibility of a return. It's very unfortunate that I spent money on this because not only did this purchase fail, but Best Buy couldn't give me an identically priced computer without charging me extra (due to the normal price vs. this computer at a sale) and I lost a bunch of potential Black Friday sales since I usually build my computer myself. I wouldn't recommend buying this product.

Problems with DOTA 2 and Rocket League
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was purchased as a gift for my son. For the first couple of days it was working great and we felt good about the $1500 Black Friday deal. Unfortunately it started acting up and freezing on games like DOTA 2 and Rocket League. The sound would keep playing and we could shut down the games most of the times. We had tried everything we could think of Firmware, Drivers, switching between HDMI and DisplayPort. Seems like a couple of other people are having similar problems. Anyone buying this type of system is likely playing games, so you would hope a prebuilt system would be good to go. We have no way to tell, but I suspect the power supply is not strong enough for the RTX 2080. We monitored the heat and it was not getting too hot. For the price, I would just upgrade the power supply, if we were sure it would solve the issue.

It will last you about 1yr
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are lucky that is.....I have to agree with most of the reviewers on this product, really poor design on HP side, the GPU runs at 87c when the recommended is 70c, mind you that the temp goes to 85c 3min flat after opening a game. Can’t add any more fans in the case and the GPU is sitting on top of the power supply which doesn’t help. This is HPs fault, but Best Buy as the retailer of this poorly build product which is affecting their customers in a negative way should address with HP or stop selling the faulty product. It seems that there is no one reading these reviews except you and me.

Great gaming computer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been able to improve my game play immensely with this computer. In a game called CS:GO, I was the lowest rank, struggling to climb because my old computer couldn't handle the game. My average FPS was around 15-20. and certain grenades would drop it down to 5. My very first game of CS:GO on the computer, I was able to see the difference immediately. I went from 20 fps to 300. I was able to actually play the game without lagging the entire game. I have had great experience with this computer so far, and would recommend it if you are looking for a good gaming computer.

Power supply not enough
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The power supply they give you with this prebuild isn't a high enough wattage to feed the rtx 2080. Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 for extended periods of time will cause fragmenting and ultimately a video card failure. Got this on sale for 1299 so it was worth that in parts + windows installed.

Great for Games, without destroying your Wallet
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Serious, hardcore gamers would want more raw power, but they'd also spend a whole lot more money to get it. For most people, this is plenty. It can handle any game you give it, although on some super high-end games, you may need to settle for the second highest quality settings, rather than the top. However, this may be improved by buying some extra RAM — it's got a spare slot. It also has an empty bay for an extra hard drive, if you want to expand your storage space.

Was great for a day but...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The pc lasted for one day. After boot up the next day I got 3 long beeps and 3 short beeps and a flashing screen. Could not get it to start. With the little time I had with it, I was able to download and play BFV. The performance was decent but I kept having connection issues. I believe there was something wrong with the built in wifi adapter, as I could not keep a stable connection.

Burned Out After 11 Months
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, I didn't think it was going to happen to me. I bought this in-store last year in September. I had it idling on the desktop and all of a sudden I smelled a burning rubber smell and look over and it shuts off and now wont turn on again. ..The computer itself was great while I had it, but how could you ever give it more than one star knowing it will inevitably die too soon as so many reviewers have claimed. The GPU burned out which was the most expensive part too, so no it is not cost effective either to just replace it.

Loving it except for the case!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The specs are insane on this beast except when it comes to thermals. It requires a liquid cooling install to be able to max out settings. HP should liquid cool from the factory if they're going to make such a small case with really bad airflow.

Great Gaming PC for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A gaming PC is not a cheap thing to buy or build. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this model not to mention a bit of future-proofing.

Great computer server
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solid built quality with nice look and feel. I am using this as part of a kubernetes cluster for research. However, I would recommend BestBuy to sell an improved configuration of 512GB to 1TB SSD instead of the stone age hard disk. The machine is immediately upgraded to 32GB ram and hard disk replaced with SSD. It runs Ubuntu 18. Glad to see the wifi card connects at 800mbps far from the main access point.

Fast computer for cheap price
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a computer that could handle large models when doing design work. I had not planed to get a rtx2080 but for the price I couldn't pass it up. I couldn't come close to building a simalar computer for the price. I would like to see a larger ssd but it is an m2 interface. I also have added another 16 gig memory module. Very satisfied so far.
