Customers are saying
Customers consistently note the excellent performance and quiet operation of the OMEN Obelisk Gaming Desktop. Many appreciate its attractive case design and the relatively affordable price, especially during sales. However, some users express concerns regarding the cooling system, GPU performance, and the adequacy of the power supply. The limited RAM is also a point of contention for some buyers.

Froze and shut down
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this desktop mainly for photo/video editing and light gaming. The first day I booted up the machine I did some photo retouching and it worked like a charm. However, the second day I decided to play some DOTA 2 on it. For those of you who don’t know about DOTA 2, this is a simple RPG game that by no means should push the limit of the latest graphic card (even my surface pro 4 handles the game just fine). 10 minutes into the game, the machine froze and the screen was locked at desktop. I forced a restart, entered the game again, and after about 10 minutes of game play, the screen froze yet again. I could hear the sound, but the image didn’t move. I couldn’t go back to desktop either. No operation was being recognized. I forced a second restart, and this time the screen doesn’t light up at all. Strangely enough, the LED indicator on my monitor was solid green meaning that the monitor knows the computer is on but there was no image on the screen, and my keyboard and mouse had no light on meaning they though the computer was off. I will be returning this and try my luck with another brand. Based on other reviews, this machine definitely has some quality issues that exist on a large scale. This problem is not acceptable for a 2-day old, top of the line desktop.

Not a winner
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this unit for a year and a half and the GPU just burned out and had to replace with a 3070 for an eye watering 860$. Omen are not good do NOT but this it. I also had to take the side off and run a floor fan in the side to keep it below 90c it regularly ran at 85c with a floor jamed in the side of it..... Do not buy this....do not but this... Do not buy this.

Lots of power
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great computer for the pro gamer, video enthusiast or movie junkie in your family. Graphics are amazing, speed is great (even with multiple applications running) and is very stylish. There isn't a DVD/CD drive and that is my only disappointment however they are on their way out so not a "major" drawback.

Great Computer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I cannot commmet on the gaming quality aspect of this computer as we do not use it for that. But exceptionally equipped with plenty of RAM and storage. Not a huge case (which is nice), looks good, with the glass panel to see the interior with cool lights. This computer is so quiet too! No problems, runs great.

3 long + 3 short beeping issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got the 3 long + 3 short beeping issues right during my 2nd time starting the machine. Check the reviews and it seems a lot of folks are having this problem. What Bogey wrote below is true: you need to turn on the monitor before push the power button on the PC. It is disappointing that HP as a major manufacturer has such a universal problem. Hopefully there will be a driver/SW fix soon. Will consider to change my review to five stars then. :)

Desktop powerhouse.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This PC screams finesse. Plenty of power for anything you throw at it. Great HP updates. Graphics are superbly rendered. Takes approximately 4 seconds to boot! I've been using computers since 1985. This HP OMEN is by far the best I've bought. No complaints whatsoever.

Returned Twice. Don't do it!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I have never written a review before but this PC was so bad I have to earn people. I can believe the HP Omen is a good brand, but I had nothing but trouble with this particular model. I would get it home and turn it on and there would be this beeping. I later learned these were error codes so I returned it the first time. I got the second one home and reinstalled all my stuff and then the beeps start happening again. When it would start up it would be extremely loud during gameplay. I decided I'm can't live with it and returned it again for an IBuyPower of and that one has been great so far. I think this particular of model of HP Omen were cheaply manufactured or something and the power supply is like a paltry 500w. If it worked it would be a nice PC.

Overpowered for this time
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a really nice computer, if you buy this you'll be set for a few years easily while waiting for the current games to catch up. Does what you need it to do, you can have the multi-monitor set up and have 10000 pages open while playing your game at ultra no problem.

Awesome computer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I searched hi and low for a computer to handle my Adobe suite editing etc. This computer is perfect. The issue I have is all the extra accessories I have to purchase like a card reader and u cant add a extra screen only on output hdmi.you have to power on the monitor first before turning the computer on. Other than that a great buy

Meh
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer only thing good have is de video card, and the ram 1 only 16 gigs 2666 but you need another one to run better. What happens with this comp the rest like the i7 8700 but you need the k to run faster (no liquid cooler) and if you want to run 4K max gpu is going to be over 87C is toooooo hot can broke your computer.

powerful 2080 pre-built rig w/ limitations
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.he good: - RTX 2080 - The obvious star of the show here. I’m not sure if these new RTX cards are worth the price currently, but they are certainly the future of serious gaming. - Intel i7-8700 - 8th gen. - Plenty of CPU power. - internal storage - 2TB HDD and 256GB M.2 SSD - Super fast start up, but ultimately if your games live on the HDD, load times won’t necessarily improve. They’ll be good, but not great. In game performance won’t be changed unless you upgrade your RAM. - audio - available Atmos from Windows 10 system (requires free software update from Dolby) - Shaow of the Tomb Raider sounded absolutely cinematic in Atmos. the bad: - one stick of single channel memory - Nice for upgrading, but the absense of a second stick of memory could raise CPU loads. - price - At an MSRP of $2000, a bit on the pricey side. - inadequate cooling - Would be nice to see some liquid cooling, certainly at this price. Internal fans can get noisy under heavy load. - limited upgrade ability - 1 PCIE slot, no additional drive bays, 500W power supply, means you’re not doing much more to this rig aside from plugging it in and firing up a game. misc: - no bays for optical drives - Probably doesn’t matter as much these days, but I’m a bit old school. I don’t need an optical drive in my laptop, but my desktop is another story. Most people probably won’t care. - can’t overclock CPU - Also probably not a huge deal. Most pre-built gaming rigs don’t come with an 8700k in any case. If you’re looking at pre-built rigs, you’re probably not over clocking anyway. - configurable RGB - While I’m not a huge fan of the logo design, you do have some relatively decent control over the color of it and the internal lighting, even to the point of turning it all off. overall: For a pre-built machine, you could certainly do worse. It’s by no means cheap (nothing with an RTX 2080 will be) but ultimately, if you find it on sale at around $1500, it doesn’t cost much more than its consituent parts. And of course, it’s pre-built, which means you don’t have to bother with all of the extra fun that a custom build comes with. Some people want that, and some people don’t. First and by far foremost, the 2080 is the most important part of this rig. Not only did it perform crazy high in my GFX benchmark testing, it really is the future of gaming. Playing on an X-Box or PS4 is great (I own and use both depending on what I’m playing), but console gaming can only take you so far in terms of cutting edge graphics and immersion. The results of things like Ray Tracing, DLSS, Tensor cores (look ‘em up if you’re not familiar with them - they take gaming to the next level) ultimately make for a lower stress, higher performing, better lighting/shadow producing, off-screen-reflection production realistic gameplay experience. To translate - in game graphics look amazing, and will only get better. Now, to be far, only one game currently takes advantage of RTX (Battlefield V) and supposedly looks really good with decent (60+) frame rates. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is due to come out with their upgrade patch to support RTX, but as of yet that hasn’t happened. (It uses DirectX 12, which looks fantastic, but Ray Tracing is still absent currently.) That being said, now that these 2080 cards are available to the public, more and more games will start supporting them. The comparison really comes down to a 1080(ti) which costs as much or more, versus a 2080. The 1080 might perform adequately (or slightly better in some cases) for current gaming, but doesn’t include the types of technology I mentioned earlier. Aside from the 2080, is there anything really special about this rig? Honestly, not much. The power supply and motherboard don’t allow for much upgrading. Outside of the GFX card, it’s kind of an average machine. But…as pre-built gaming rigs go, it’s certainly not bad. Solid 4 stars at a good sale price of $1500 (at $2000 MSRP I’d give it closer to 3 stars).
