Good features but troubles right out of the box.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the 2nd Onkyo receiver I've purchased in the last several years. This one is a replacement for my Onkyo TX-NR809 when the HDMI board failed and no fix was available in the US. Set this new one up and immediately noticed and audio issue when a TV show would go to commercial, the sound would drop out completely or would be extremely distorted, when the commercial changed the sound would come back clear (also happens when a change of scene during DVD movies). Bought new HDMI cables just to be sure I didn't have a cable issue, problem still here. Bought a 4 year extended warranty with this one since my track record with Onkyo is not the best. Will take it back when football season is over or if it completely fails, which ever comes first.

Great amp, killed by update
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything was PERFECT on my home theater until the update came. All of a sudden my subwoofer stopped working, and the only way to get volume at the sub was to trick the distance settings. THANK GOD FOR BEST BUY WARRANTY! I upgraded to Denon and haven't looked back.

Not the best experience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never had anything else than onkyo. That unit let me down . It should be my fith onkyo receiver but instead to give the good sound improvement I was looking for it ended up blow my sub. I returned it. The sound was horrible. I believe it was a bad one.

Not enough power...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The receiver performance is below average. I had an older receiver that has less power and play louder music with the speakers I have.

Nice product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After my 708 model decided to go to receiver heaven, I was going to replace it with different brand. Not that I didn’t like the old one. Just to rotate brands. After some research, I had to stay with Onkyo. Within my price range I did not find anything else that satisfied my requirements. Specifically the network and Zone 2 feature with independent sources played in each zone. This review is then a comparison with the model 708. There are pluses and minuses. There are new features added. Like 4K pass through and upscale, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and some new sound processing modes. To describe the sound experience, I need to say first that I am using 3.0 speaker setup. My city apartment is too small to accommodate large surround speakers. And small rear speakers sound too different and distracting. Subwoofers I do not use for their excessively unnatural addition to the natural sound. Even without subs the EQ bass settings need to be at minimum. These days, content providers tend to artificially boost bass frequencies to annoying levels even for main speakers. Some may ask why not buy stereo receiver instead. Because I want/ need that discreet center channel instead of phantom one created digitally on stereo receivers. These days it is main channel in most sound modes. Sonically, this model sounds pleasingly similar to 708. Surprisingly, the new Neural-X mode sounds worse than Neo6. At least with my 3.0 setup. AM/FM tuner seems to be a lot more sensitive than previous model. My favorite AM stations are noise free. Previously unlistenable distant FM stations are now clear. I cannot compare specs to confirm improved sensitivity. Many manufacturers no longer bother to post this info in spec sheets. User experience is where this model is noticeable step down from 708. Starting with featureless dark faceplate that only Darth Vader could love. Remote control unit is simplified, dumbed down version of the full featured remote that came with 708 model. Some controls are left out, some have to be accessed through acrobatic pressing of multiple buttons simultaneously. I have to carefully read manual every time when I want to use the Zone2. Placement of controls is odd. Volume rocker is in unnatural position all alone in its space. I kept mistakenly pressing station tuning up/down controls when trying to adjust volume. So I keep the old remote, even though not all controls work with new model. The front USB input is gone. I like to view/ play stuff on USB drives. Now I have to fumble around rear panel to look for the USB input back and forth. Yet, there is plenty of space for inputs on that featureless faceplate. I might have to get the USB extension dongle to simplify things. Back panel is another disappointment. It has far less inputs than 708, yet it looks/ feels more crammed. Old model had all speaker posts installed in a single row, a pleasure to work with. Now I had to buy banana plugs to make sure I do not accidentally short circuit some wiring in tight spaces of two rows setup. ARC is no longer as functional as it was with 708. I do not use it to play TV sound through receiver. Just to enable TV to turn off the receiver. It used to be possible to turn on/off all three base devices - receiver, TV and cable box with a single cable remote click without problems. Now Onkyo stubbornly switches to unused TV input instead of leaving it on CBL/SAT as before. I tried to avoid this nuisance by plugging the cable box HDMI to the TV input on receiver, but no signal was output to the TV. So I had to bypass ARC connections on both TV and receiver. Now I use 3 remotes instead. It took a while to get used to new limitations of this model. After about a year they do not bother me anymore.

Solid performance and clear sound.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver has THX and I find that the audio is crisper and clearer than the TX-NR656, so for the extra $100, this is what I settled on. My wife also noticed the subtle difference between the two. The TX-NR757 is easy to setup and operate. If you are picky on audio quality, this receiver with THX is your choice.

Powerful Receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver sounds amazing. I just upgraded from a 3yr old Onkyo that worked perfectly but didn't have all of the 4k features I am interested in now. This is a huge step up in audio quality! Everything sounds so crisp and balanced. The separation is amazing. I tested it while watching The Force Awakens on Blu-ray and it blew me away. I had it at a very high volume and you can tell there was still so much power left in reserve. I can't say enough about the clarity. The THX mode adds a sense of poise and control to the audio. The unit also ran cool, I checked to see how hot it was during the movie and it was barely warm and the internal fan wasn't running at the time. All the wireless streaming options are great. Pandora works well, airplay, Bluetooth. Also, be sure to download the Onkyo mobile control app. You can adjust system settings on the fly while watching movies or gaming. I had to turn my subwoofer down a little and doing it through the app was very easy. So far its a great receiver, cant wait to test out all of the features in the days to come.

Very Good Choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was an excellent choice for me, just an average guy and not an expert in any respect. My reasons for giving this a five star rating are simple. The sound quality is superior to any similar product I have owned in the past, and set-up was quite simple. Reading the product description will tell you about the receiver's features, there is no reason to list them here, but I especially appreciate access to Pandora and compatibility with AirPlay.

Great Receiver, Great Features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this receiver a month ago and it has not let me down so far. Owned an Onkyo TX-NR616 and decided to upgrade due to purchasing a 4K TV. I am completely satisfied, especially since you can listen in the latest Dolby and DTS sound modes. Receiver provides more than enough power for my 7.1 setup and fills the room quite nicely. Great product as Onkyo has been the standard for clear, crisp sound.

Great AV Receiver for the Money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a well feature AV receiver and below the $1,000 price point. This receiver had what I was looking for including Powered Zone2 with independent source selection, plenty of HDMI Inputs, Analog Inputs, Nice Remote App, Apple Air Play, Auto Speaker Calibration, Phono Input, plenty of power and more. Also had Onkyo before and was very satisfied.

Great Receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second Onkyo receiver. I'm replacing with my 15 years old which is still functioning and going to setup as second zone. Excellent sound with Bose Acoustimass 15 series speakers. Fill like watching movie in theater.

Good but has its Flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you intend to run you HDMI threw it you may experience some problems. first off the 4k upscale Does not work so if your buying it for this reason Dont. second there seems to be a issue when using the atmos setup , every time i turn on the receiver i get clicking out of the right atmos speaker only when i turn on the components on in a certain order does it stop.this does not happen when running anything else but 5.1.2. if you just want a simple Loud setup then i would suggest getting this receiver, anything other than that i suggest getting something else.

Great Sound No Video
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second Onkyo receiver, very disappointed that the video transmission could not work when a Blu-ray is played. Make sure your display is supported. I have an Optoma Projector and this receiver can't transmit to it. Returned it.
