By plugging in the sound mic, it adjust the sound separation according to the room....(the startup instructions should be a little simpler for non audio philes) but eventually, I got it!.....love it!

Great receiver for your basic home theater

I loved the audio coming from this receiver with the basic 5.1 setup. Being that it had dolby atmos I wanted to expand my speaker setup which this receiver could not do. You can set this up as a 3.1.2 setup for atmos content. I wanted to add onto my current system with two atmos speakers so I went for the TX-NR 686 which allows for a 5.1.2 setup.

Even though it is entry level, it does everything needed for a quality home theater experience. It sounded great out of the box. I didn't feel the need to run the room correction.
