Decent budget receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Speaker columns for FR and FL channels, the others are all spring clips (and not great ones at that). Would be nice if the USB port stayed powered when the unit was off as my attached ROKU needs time to boot up every time I turn the unit back on.

Awesome sound!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our new Onkyo receiver is a joy to use. The sound it transmits to our 5-1 surround sound speakers is great. The installation by the Geek squad tech was a breeze and he took the time to explain the functions to me.

Good for what you're paying
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent for the price. No issues with integration to Roku, PC, PS4. Would prefer to have control of audio sync. They have a lip syncing software with no particular control for the user. Makes some games get out of sync during cutscenes.

AVOID at all costs.
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't buy this receiver and stay far away from Onkyo in general. They used to be a great brand, but they are absolute garbage now. This thing died 6 months into the purchase, which was outside of the return window for best buy. Tried to call Onkyo to have it repaired under warranty, and waited an hour to get someone on the phone. Once, I did she didn't seem to have a clue on how to troubleshoot - we are talking look it up in the manual type stuff. Then she said we would have to find a service center for me to mail it into. She literally never returned to the call. These guys make a bad product and are bozos when it comes to warranty. Caveat Emptor.

Fantastic receiver!
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Onkyo made a great multichannel media player! This receiver does everything that I need and then some. Even has Atmos! I love using this for all of my movie viewing. You will not be disappointed!

Quality on a budget
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty good audio quality. The only reason I got this item is because I wanted to enjoy the 4K quality provided by my Apple TV without breaking the bank, since my old high end Denon receiver provided up to a 1080p resolution.

Needed the connection instructions.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Onkyo receiver to replace an older model. The basic design is similar but the connections in the back are different. This open box was described as containing all of the accompanying literature. It did not have all of the paperwork.

Bad AV receiver!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this receiver just before Christmas as a gift for my parents. When I went to set it up for them I plugged it in and smelled smoke. It then went into a error mode and when I contacted Onkyo they were no help. I have to take it to a Onkyo repair that is over 2 hours away. They would not pay to have it shipped so I had to drive it! I will never buy another Onkyo again!

Terrific upgrade from our older model
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We upgraded to this model from a much older Onkyo receiver and are so happy we did. This one integrates much more cleanly with our other A/V systems, including our Tivo (one remote to rule them all, finally!). Handles all the inputs and outputs that we needed, and then some.

HDMI Cuts in and out
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this receiver with hopes that it would work well. Initially hooked it up and the video from my PS4 Pro or Xbox One was not passing through to the 4K Vizio TV. I've tried replacing HDMI cables, HDMI receptacles, you name it to try to get everything to work. Now when everything is hooked up through the AV receiver, it will show the video, but after about 10 minutes, the video will go black for 1-2 seconds and then come back. After that, it happens about every 5 minutes. Very annoying. Of course since I spent so long trying to fix the other issues, I've missed the date of return. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this receiver. Google Search "ONKYO HDMI ISSUES" and it is a very common with this brand of receivers.

Nice receiver
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like the receiver. Programming has not been the easiest. A person has to download information from an outside source. It wasn't told to me. It makes it hard for a person with disabilities. Other than that it's a nice receiver.

Gets the job done.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good receiver that gets the job done. Wish it had a better remote. You have to turn the sound up higher than 60 out of 100 to hear voices on movies.

Great receiver for multiplexing HD devices
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Onkyo receiver can be used to multiplex four, 4K sources and display them on one display device. It also has BT connectivity so that you can use a BT source to play music. It serves a great purpose by simplifying HD wiring and playing audio.

Onkyo TX-SR393 Frustration
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Onkyo because it was supposed to have Dolby Atmos, as indicated on the carton and in the Best Buy product listing. When I was installing it, I read the Manual and discovered Atmos was only available if you upgraded the firmware. The Manual cautioned that if your attempt to upgrade resulted in the unit not working, you would be financially responsible to have it repaired. I called Onkyo Customer Service and was told the same thing. I said it appeared to be false advertising. They said I could return it to Best Buy if I was not happy. I then pointed out that I had attempted to visit "onkyo.com", but my security software said it was too risky, and my personal information could be stolen. I was then told they had heard that also, but I could go to "onkyousa.com" and it would be safe. Next, I returned to Best Buy to see if they would install it for me. I was told I would have to pay them. When I asked if I could still return it if my attempt to upgrade the firmware caused the unit to shutdown. They said I could return it as "defective" equipment, as long as it was within the return time limit. I spent the next two days using multiple flash-drives, and different decompressing software trying to upgrade the unit. Each attempt (10+) ended with "Error 70". I returned the unit to Best Buy, told my story again, and got a full refund. The Best Buy folks were polite and friendly, but this was a complete waste of my time and effort. This firmware update is dated 05/19. Either the unit has been sitting for three years, or Onkyo failed to install the up-to-date firmware. Either way, I now have a Sony without Atmos, but it does everything it is advertised to do.
