No Dolby Atmos
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please be aware the receiver does not support Dolby Atmos from your TV. From Onkyo support: If you are trying to get the Dolby Atmos from the TV this is not possible as you will need a receiver that supports eARC. I got this receiver for the Dolby Atmos but it does not work as advertised. I have TV that supports Dolby Vision and Atmos and I wanted the receiver to just handle the the audio but that is not possible.

Only one sound effect - dull!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not sure what all the raving reviews are about - If you like a low monotone sound, then get this receiver. I thought Onkyo was supposed to be a really good brand, but I guess not. No matter how much I messed with it, it was still the lo-fi dull sound. What's the point? If you like various sounds (3D, live, surround, etc) do Not get this product, it has none of that. Save your money, time, and headaches and get a different brand. I returned this for a Yamaha receiver (around the same price) instead.

Unreliable straight from the box
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mind you, I’m newer to the home theater set up. I frankly bought this because it was the only one in stock at my local Best Buy. It had trouble connecting with our projector from the outset, but it took some time to realize what the issue was after moving it’s proximity to the projector, replacing the in-wall HDMI cord, etc, to finally realize that the output HDMI port is the failure point; it is loose and will not hold a connection no matter what I try! It’s maddening to have basically wasted $300 on this thing and to have had an essentially useless home theater for the past year.

Pain in the rear broken crap product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It died 19 days after it got home. Worked fine before. Then nothing. I Did the reset function and setup again. Still no luck. Took it back to Best Buy, but they told me to talk to Onkyo instead of helping me. So now I have to pay shipping to use the warranty. Lovely.

Onkyo TX SR393
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased for a bedroom system,to replace an Onkyo receiver that is over 20 years old.Like many companies,Onkyo rates power @ 6ohms,which is ridiculous.True rating is 80w. per channel. This receiver had terrible sound quality compared to the 20 yr. old receiver.Receiver sounded empty, and tinny, had to turn volume up to 55 to play loud, old receiver at 25.PURE crap, returning ASAP!!

Bad experience
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can I say, this receiver died in less than two months. Apparently the cause is a common problem that has been reported by many owners. It was also difficult to set up which was my first frustration with this system, so when it died, it gave me an excuse to buy a Sony that is awesome.

Do not buy onkyo
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had this product for 2 weeks and had to return it because it kept failing. Volume and picture problems. Unit would shut off if you turned the volume up over 40%. I previously had the older model of this receiver and it failed after 14 months. It was out of warranty so it just sat broken for 2 years until I purchased this upgraded unit. I would not recommend onkyo.

Brilliant set up calibration
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went into the store to replace our last Best Buy Yamaha receiver, from seven years ago, as it finally stopped. I asked the nearest receiver expert, explained I needed a 5.1 (5 speakers/1 subwoofer), he explained the minimum they had was a 5.2. Instead of directing me to the $600 units he explained that for my needs this unit was both on sale for $200 and had all the features I asked for, HDMI, Bluetooth, etc. Got the unit home and set it up quickly. The speaker calibration is phenomenally easy compared to the last time I've gone through a receiver set up. This unit comes with a corded microphone. The receiver directs you to plug in the microphone, place it in the center of the room which your speakers are in and then tells you to be silent. The receiver then turns on each speaker, one at a time, for a second each and calibrates them for the perfect output of each speaker to get the maximum sound quality! Boom! Brilliant! I went from walking in the door to have a working speaker system in ten minutes. It would have been less but the dog wanted to bark at the box which screwed up the initial calibration. The wife had JT's 20/20 Experience blaring within minutes. Zero issues thus far.
