Great budget receiver - poor online manual setup

Before reading further - make sure you read the online PDF manual for setup and also look for the addendum which is a separate online PDF. Hopefully this will save people some of the frustration I went through! I will update this review at a later time. I've been using an older receiver in my setup that does not have HDMI ports and my TV can only passthrough 2 channel PCM or dolby digital to a receiver. I wanted to have multi channel PCM as well as DTS, Atmos etc. I also wanted something that could passthrough 4k HDR. After seeing various reviews I decided on this receiver for the "best budget receiver" So far everything worked good but then I notced I couldn't get 4k HDR 60hz to work with my windows PC. If the PC is connected direct to the TV I could get 4k HDR 60 hz to work which led me to believe either there was a compatibility problem or something is wrong with the receiver. I then hooked up a PS4 Pro and got the same problem with the PS4 reporting it could do 4k 60hz but not 4k HDR 60hz. After searching around the internet and reading through the manual which is only available as a PDF online I couldn't find a solution and started to think I got a defective receiver. The front of the manual has a table of contects that is clickable to go to that section of the manual - I then noticed on the very first page of the manual at the bottom is a listing for "supplementary information" i.e. an addendum which I figured was just at the end of the manual. If you click on this though, it actual goes to a different PDF whch mentions how to switch the HDMI signal format to advanced. Once I switched to advanced, my PS4 and PC were displaying as expected.

Excellent service and extremely fast delivery. Very pleased with the sound and performance of this 5 channel receiver. It was very easy to set up and the standard microphone calibration was very well designed and brought out a tremendous amount of sound quality from the speakers versus the previous receiver. Cannot be happier with this setup for the use it is getting.

I love this cheap receiver. Can’t beat $199. It comes with Dolby Atmos and Bluetooth both of which were requirements for me. Push Klipsch speaker over an acre in my backyard clearly.

Very happy with the sound it puts out. Installation was a breeze with the on screen tutorial. Remote is very easy to use. And depending on what I’m watching the sound can be adjusted to top sound movie, or video game, etc.... Glad I bought this receiver. Couldn’t be happier, especially at the price I paid.

Well I purchased this unit on 9/25/19. It is now 12/15/19 and it is already displaying some issues. First assuming you don't encounter my current issue. Pros: It is cheap. 4k. HDR. Atmos. Simple setup and self EQ. Cons: It does this thing where if you pause whatever you are playing and you press play again it mutes itself for about a second or two. My previous unit did not do this and I find it quite annoying. Bulky. Only 4 hdmi inputs but for the price this is asking too much. Now my current issue is that the unit is randomly not turning on after being turned off for periods of time. Passed the returning period and the closest support facility is several hours away so not driving there and if comes down to where I need to ship it, it will take time and money that I shouldn't really be dealing at so early on the ownership. But being curious I opened the unit up and removed all fuses and placed them back... This seems to allow the unit to come on again. So buying some replacement fuses. But yeah three months in and stuff like this is already happening. Kind of get what you pay for I guess.

We love this receiver. Updating from a ten year old Yamaha. The setup was very easy and you really should use the mic that is provided to set up your speakers. It made the setup go very quickly and the sound is amazing. We connected to a Sony OLED and have streamed movies in Dolby Atmos and it worked well! This is a great value!

This was purchased to replace a 90's cabinet stereo that had started to fail for my father. When shopping for him I wanted something that was modern but not over the top in technology and this receiver fit that bill. Once I got my father out of the "old school" mind set, setup was simple. It has enough hookups to connect his smart TV, DVD player, cassette player and VCR (yes, some people still have VCR's and he uses his every day). The major downfall for his setup is a lack of preamp for the turntable (not an issue if you are using a more modern turntable). Sound quality was okay on the 30+ year old speakers and even better as we replace those with Klipsch speakers. With the better decoding he lost some bass and will have to add an external sub to gain back the deep sound he was used to with the old receiver. The lack of Bluetooth and WiFi makes this about as simple of a receiver as you can get. If you are looking for a no thrills, decent quality receiver for a reasonable price this is the one of the best out there. If you are looking for a "future proof" system, or lots of bells and whistles, this is not what you want.
