Many also appreciate the receiver's powerful performance and the extensive features it offers at its price point. Had an issue
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got it setup and things work for awhile but then occasionally I have to reset the whole system when it gets locked into one HDMI input and will not switch. This is a pain because you have to go through the setup process again which takes time.

Highly recommended home theater receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great receiver for a home theater system, paired with Bose Acoustimass 5.1 speakers + 2 Bose ceiling speakers in a 5.1.2 configuration. The setup was flawless, much to my surpise as I was expecting something to not go right, or to have to redo. Some of the reviews mention the repeated privacy notice, but didn't experience that. Maybe it was fixed with a recent firmware update. Another nice surprise was how easy the iPhone app was to setup, and all the features available remotely through wi-fi. I wasn't actually planning to use that feature as I was more interested in a Dolby Atmos capable system and the 5.1.2 setup. Was pretty cool to be able to turn off the receiver from another room, or better yet, turn it down when the kids have it too loud. Overall, the system sounds great. Fired up the UHD Dolby Vision+Dolby Atmos version of Han Solo (thanks Vudu for actually streaming Dolby Vision/Atmos movies). Sounded amazing. At the end of the train scene, you can feel the explosion. Like sitting in the DLX movie theater. Regular old dolby surround sound movies sound great also. Music sounds better than any system I've previously setup. There's a music enhancement setting that fully utilizes all 7 speakers and feels like it fills the room. The quick menu feature is also great, you can quickly adjust the center channel to help with dialog. The last great surprise with this system was how well it works, and was easy to setup with my Roku TCL TV. I'd read the horror stories with ARC and CEC controls and here again the setup was easy (with a little help from TechnoDad on YouTube). Now, there is no need to change input on the receiver when switching from cable to Netflix on the Roku TV. It automatically switches from the CBL/SAT input (cable box input to receiver) to the TV input (HDMI ARC audio output from the RokuTV). Highly recommended unit!

HDMI output issues
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased 2 of these units for the great value they offered, and the quality of their amplifier within the unit. However, the HDMI output board has failed on one, and there is no other video output to utilize this receiver effectively for an audio receiver. Poor rating based on my (and others based on reviews) of the HDMI board quality AND having no other means to get a video out signal.

Poor 4K Switching / Loss of Video Quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Switching of HDMI inputs results in loss of video quality and addition of snow into video images from sources. Dual HDMI outputs will default to 1080p if one of the two devices connected does not support 4k. Primary reason for purchase of this receiver was to switch multiple 4k HDR sources to a 4k HDR television and a 1080p television at the same time.

Horrible
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Piece of junk had an old onkyo quality was exceptional this newer version was lighter than the older one and definitely cheaper returned this item as per poor quality and performance. Sad cause the older receiver I paid 2300.00 for but was so much better than the newer receiver. My advice find a new brand of receiver onkyo went down the tubes.

Impossibly opaque controls to zone 2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After weeks of searching for a replacement receiver with an A and a B zone, I found this at an acceptable price. Previous receiver had push button selection for A+B zones, but at 30+ years of faithful service, finally gave in. Zone B: you can’t get there from here.

Don't buy this
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HDMI port stopped working less than a year then Bluetooth stopped working. Now it does not even power on. Worse customer service, warranty repair, good luck. Now I have to wait for a month to get it fixed. Buy something else, Onkyo amplifier are not like what is used to be. Think twice before you buy. Thanks.

Ripped off
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this item, installed it in a wall unit. The sound stopped working after a year in a half, I took it to a service center. They said the unit got wet from the top. What a joke, no way it got wet. Said it would cost more to fix it then to buy it new. Stay away from Onkyo
