The movie was overall confusing at certain points. The movie took longer than expected to get better.

Usually Studio Ghibli has some top notch stuff, this one just left me confused. It seemed advertised as a kids movie but...was more of an awkward adult movie about childhood and current day situations. I really did not expect 20 minutes of the movie to be just about the topic of girls dealing with menstrual issues as young teens.

I would not recommend buying this movie. It’s a little confusing. My 13 yr old didn’t like it. I personally thought it was ok but not worth the $. I would just stream it.

As a serious Studio Ghibli fan, I really wanted to like this movie. The characters just weren't engaging, and the story was really average.

I can't believe this has such high reviews. I've been such a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki for so long! Since he has retired I thought I would venture out and look for a replacement, haha! I watched Grave of the Fireflies years ago and really liked it so, after reading all the good reviews on this one I purchased it. Big mistake...it was the biggest waste of my time and definitely the worst anime movie I've ever watched. It goes on and on about a menstrual cycle, really, come on. And every topic is drawn out way too long as well. Stupid movie! I'm female. I couldn't imagine a guy sitting through this whole thing, I fell asleep!!

It's ok. Not a great movie but I it's something different

Despite the fact that this came out in Japan back in 1991, this movie has only just been released recently. If you love anime and especially movies created by Studio Ghibli, then you'll want to add this film to your collection! Last I checked, the site Rotten Tomatoes gave this classic 100% positive feedback! ;)

I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli films, but this one I didn't know what to expect, it had a good human story about being a kid and growing into a adult, and dealing with the problems adulthood, anyone can relate to this film. Plus Daisy Ridley of star wars the force awakens, knocks her first ever voice over work out of the park.

Watched it when IFC channel aired subtitled few years back to celebrate Studio Ghibli film and I loved it. Recent theater run was bit disappointing but dubbing is decent. I'd still watch with subtitles instead. Good time capsule piece of pre-recession Japan of 80s.

This movie released in the late 80's and has been remastered perfectly. if you're a hayao miyazaki fan you will fall in love with takahata's work on this amazing film

Great movie! Even though its a re release, it stills connects with the new era society. Studio Ghibli never disappoints!
