The Ooma telo experience has been great so far.

The Black Friday price convinced me to try this. The setup was really simple, as I initially just hooked up one phone to try it out, before cancelling the traditional land line service. I have a cable modem with four Ethernet connections, so I just plugged it into one of those, after setting up the account online. Our connection speed is nine meg per second, so I didn't expect any connection speed problems, and I haven't noticed any during the twelve days we've been using it so far. After about four days I decided to try plugging it into our house phone wiring, after disconnecting the land line wiring from the phone company. (CAUTION! If you don't know how to do this, please get qualified help! Do not plug it into the house phone wiring without disconnecting the phone company service, as it can damage the telo unit). Once I plugged it into the nearest phone jack, all of our phone extensions worked. First I tried the dect 6 cordless phones, of which we have two brands, and they worked just fine. Then I tried an old corded phone, which worked fine. Finally I tested the alarm system autodialer, which also worked fine. I considered whether to have our old number ported and decided it would be a great opportunity to ditch all the robocallers and other salespeople that had our old number, so I just kept the new number and called to cancel the land line service. You would not want to cancel until they switched the number, if you were keeping your old number. If the results over time are as good as our experience so far, then this device and the Ooma service is an exceptional value. By the way, I wouldn't be put off by all the legal stuff in the terms of service agreement, as it isn't likely to be an issue for most people.

I've been happily using my Ooma Telo for a litle over 2 years. We did have an issue during the first few weeks but it was due to interference of another instrument that was placed within a few feet of Ooma telo. Once that was resolved (which was hard to find out in the first place#, the call quality has been exception. Happy to pay under $4 for an excellent voip home phone service. Hope my telo lasts a couple more years #bought it for about $200 over 2 years ago). But even if mine were to fail in near future, I will happily buy another at the current market price of $129. Compared to traditional voip phone services, I would break even with Ooma telo in less than 6 months.

Holy smokes, Ooma is super-cool! I have been considering moving to VOIP for my home phone for a while. After researching the big players in the VOIP game, I narrowed it down to Ooma. The up-front fees were higher, but the monthly fees very low. I'm only paying $4.77/month for service. Compared to about $60/month for regular phone service, the reasons are obvious why we made the move. I ported our number, took 3 days. It cost $39 to port the number which sucked, but oh well... I ended up buying the Ooma handsets though you don't need the. They are HD quality, and the Voice Mail features integrated into the handsets which makes retrieving voicemail from any phone easy (not possible with traditional phone). The features of the account management are nice. My only concern with going to VOIP was E911 for our house (we have a child with medical issues and have used 911 before). The process was simple, and we were able to enter our address so if we need to use 911 again it will display for the 911 operator. This has got to be one of my best purchases in a long time! Very happy with it.

Great Equipment, TERRIBLE Sketchy Service & Billin

I used this service for quite a few years, really enjoyed the hardware and ease of set up. Making phone calls was easy and as long as your wifi waa great the connection quality was good. What I do not love, and ultimately drove me to toss this in the trash, was the continuous errors and bugginess with the online account service and autopay billing. I had my debit set up for payments, yet the service would never take out the money on the same day every month. It became a guessing game and difficult to make sure the money was there and accurately predict when they finally decided to withdraw. When payments were withdrawn late when money was already calculated as taken out, it would tell me to update my card info. So when I'd put money in my account I'd update the card info online and it still would not process a payment. So their brilliant idea is to lock you out completely from accessing your account services online instead of simply shutting the phone service off, making it impossible for you to update payment methods or pause the account or any other control while wracking up more debt. The last straw was suddenly them taking out 3 months of payments in a single day without any communication or authorization whatsoever, while still not unlocking access to my online account. So I called the customer service number (overseas assistance) and canceled the whole account. They had the audacity to ask me to pass on the equipment I had purchased to someone else to use - absolutely not, it's smashed and trashed. The last thing I need is someone using this device possibly still under my name with my info. I will NEVER use anything Ooma related again!

This is a very nice product. The set up is very easy. However, I will remind you that if after you set the device up, and confirm the account has been activated via the website, if you receive the blinking red light which indicates that the unit is not working properly you must first check the settings on your firewall. Perhaps even disable it to see if the device begins to work. Just a reminder because a friend of mine had this issue and lowering the security level of the firewall fixed it. The call quality is awesome! I really love this product

Works great. Porting my number went smoothly and on time. I cant tell the difference between ooma & AT&T After the initial purchase, and the cost of porting the number I will be saving big time. I was paying $37 and change with AT&T and will be paying $6.11 a month with the basic service.

I highly recommend using the Ooma phone service with this device. If you are currently paying for home phone service, it is extremely easy to switch to Ooma as long as you have a high speed Internet connection and an open port on your router. This device can be setup in minutes and will work with a phone that uses a standard phone jack. I was paying $40+ per month for home phone service and am now paying around $5 with Ooma. Plus, I was able to keep the same home phone number. Buying this device will pay you back many times over in a short period of time!

I have replaced with OOMA from carrier phone service. I am really impressed with call quality with OOMA. It is very easy to setup and able to port my existing number within 10 days. It has built in QOS and you may need to disable if your router has QOS to avoid conflict. I am happy that OOMA able to cut down my phone charges more than 90%. I would definitely recommend this product for those paying more amount every month on home phones.

I purchased Ooma Telo after much research in home network phone systems. I did try another network phone system and the pricing was just as much as phone service from my local phone company! I was first told about this product from my IT guy at work. Great sound quality, great customer service. Best of all after the initial cost of the Ooma Telo it was extremely less costly than conventional or any other internet phone service. Check out what it would cost you at: http://www.ooma.com/savings/ scroll to the bottom of the page. There you can enter your zip code and it will tell you what your monthly bill will be. Mine is $3.84!

I read several articles on Ooma and got recommendation from neighbor, who loves his. We previously had Verizon home phone and the sound quality with them wasn't very good. The Ooma phone sound is crystal clear and no dropped calls so far. I also love that it only costs me $5.88/month for unlimited US calls! I would recommend getting the Wifi adapter (another $50) unless you want to be limited to hardwiring the phone to your Internet modem.

Call quality is okay, but the company is shady

I was an Ooma customer for several years, having ported my number over from AT&T. That was a drastic shift of about $45/month to $4. Call quality was satisfactory, unless you were talking to another Ooma customer. It was consistently difficult to understand the other person, and it went on for at least several months. This didn't happen with other cell or landline users. Being that we rarely used even the Ooma service, I wanted to port over to Google Voice and an Obihai Obi200 device so my service would be free. You need to know your account number, PIN and zip code in order to make a port request. And that's where things get really sticky with Ooma. They intentionally play dumb or give you incorrect information when you ask for this, and none of it is what you think. It took FOUR calls from me and THREE calls from T-Mobile to get a correct information from them. And it wasn't just a misunderstood digit or something - they were giving me 12 digits for a 9 digit account number and things like that. Understanding the typical thick Indian accent was yet another challenge. Thankfully, I was porting to T-mobile and they were incredibly patient and helpful through the ordeal. (Google Voice can't port numbers directly from non-cell numbers, so I had to temporarily port to a prepaid T-mobile number, then port to Google Voice. But that's another story.) Given Ooma's business practices of trying to effectively hold your phone number hostage, or reports of customers being billed repeatedly after cancelling service, I cannot recommend Ooma even though their service was otherwise decent.

International calling was good for 2.5 years

I was a member since 2019 till I canceled last night. For 2.5 years the service worked great. Never any issues with calling domestically in the US or Canada. While Canada is not domestic don't see it as international. Around two months back calling India started having issues. The landline at my parents would never ring though ooma would try to make the call. We figured India is having an issue. Then we good annoyed so we called the Mobile line from WhatsApp and dialed the Landline again via Ooma no ring was received at my parents. Many would say just dial the mobile number. True to do so but parents are old so Landline is still a must. So then called Ooma and canceled also we were paying too much around $34 dollars with taxes. Billing which is outsourced and the people are also WFH could hear kids in the background did not care to retain the customer but were nice not annoy me with we are this we offer this.. On a good note unlike Vonage one can keep the device and reactive it later. Moved to an app this morning Rebtel and its working. Even informs one that landline is busy call later. We confirmed it by calling on the mobile phone as well. The reason I am not recommending this as the price is too high for unlimited international calling to the countries offered. I am sure Rebtel or others are cheaper for $10 dollars a month. Even T-Mobile offers something similar but mobile phones are not included yet for India on the T-Mobile $10 offer.

We've had OOMA for several years. Overall, we are quite pleased. o Voice quality is good. It's much better than cellphones. o The website allows you to selectively block all calls except those in your contact list. Blocked calls can either be routed to voicemail or given a "phone number disconnected" message if you want. We really like this feature. o Works fine with a cordless home system. Am not sure if it has enough power to work with a house with older style wired telephones. o BIGGEST COMPLAINT is that the Telo units only last a few years. We've had to replace them twice in the last ~5 years. o BEWARE: cost is not "free". While the _basic_ OOMA service is free, they have to charge about $6 per month for the 911 service and taxes. It's not much, but expect to be charged this small amount every month on your credit card. o BEWARE: the basic service does not include voicemail. If you want that expect to pay ~$120 a year (one time charge??) o Overall, the OOMA telo is probably much cheaper than getting your phone through your cable or local telephone company, even with the "premium" package (voicemail, etc.)

    Lower Cost Line Using Ooma

Ooma offers more features than the major carriers for less. For example, filtering unwanted calls is available at no extra cost. Yes, there is the initial cost of the device, however, once set up it works as promise with just the local fees (< $10) and the cost recovered in less than 6 months or so.

First, I received the ooma a mere 1 1/2 days after I ordered it. 2ndly, it worked. (Per instructions, I did not plug it in until after I registered it.) Between following the quick start booklet and more detailed (and simple) on line instructions, it was in service. To clarify, it's been in service for only 3 weeks. 3rdly, the sound quality is great. Biggest bonus - I am no longer paying $85 a month for a land line.

Works perfectly. It was really easy to set up, just follow the guide. I used the website. I only use this as a home phone because I have really spotty cell service in my house and wifi calling doesn't even work correctly. This is a perfect as a home phone, now that we are post obi talk/google voice. The downside is the price, it's expensive, but I hope it pays itself off over the years.

The Ooma - Telo VoIP device has enabled me to cut the cord from my regular telephone services by connecting to my internet provider thus eliminating that bill. I am only billed for the applicable state and local fees associated with the regular phone service. The clarity, features and setup of this device has been seamless and will pay for it's self within a couple of months. I did'nt opt for the long distance at this time as it is covered through my cellular service.
