Defective and Unreliable
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the telo for a month now. I am on my 2nd telo with a 3rd on the horizon. First telo had issues in beginning, but got better. However, the speaker in the machine which announces how many messages you have was choppy and echoed: Every other syllable was blocked out: You __ mess __ and __ save __ mess__ges. (Outside callers voicemail messages were fine.) I talked to customer service level 1. Their stock answer was always reboot telo and modem. Once they checked internet speed and told me it was great. Then they passed me on to level 2 customer service who performed a number of additional tests. Level 2 couldn't resolve the problem; they determined it was a speaker issue, and sent me a new telo 2 weeks later. The 2nd telo had the same poor quality announcer speaker issues as the 1st. In addition, when I turned the brightness of the blue status light down to 1 (dimmest), the telo started automatically rebooting itself frequently and randomly. During these reboot episodes lasting 3-5 minutes each, I had no phone service which concerned me in case of an emergency. I noticed a correlation between the brightness settings and the automatic telo reboots: The dimmer the brightness, the more frequently the telo rebooted itself. It was still happening at the highest brightness setting of #4 (highest). The dimness control seems to control the electrical power of the telo. I called customer service several times. Level 1 couldn't resolve it. Sometime I was lucky enough to get someone immediately at level 2, other times level 1 told me level 2 would call back - they never did. You have to be very persistent and not give up to get any resolution. Then they told me to plug the telo into a different outlet. Hmmm... My computer tower, monitor, modem and printer have been using this electrical outlet for over 10 years and there has never been any problem with the outlet. Even the 1st telo did OK in the outlet. I tried another outlet which is not convenient. Same problems at first. Then later I tried it with an extension cord, kept the brightness at # 4, and now a solid purple light has come on twice automatically which means it is in do not disturb mode. I didn't even touch it. The only way I can clear it is by rebooting the telo. Also, I'm having trouble deleting messages: The delete button doesn't work right away-- I have to go 5 times through the process of listening to a message and pressing delete until it finallty gets deleted. I will have to call customer service again. It seems like it's easier for Ooma to send out a new device every time there is an issue, rather than fixing the existing problems and sending out a reliable quality machine without defects. I'm betting the 3rd telo they send me will have the same speaker problems as telo 1 and 2, andfrequent automatic rebooting issues as telo 2. Unfortunately I bought my telo from Best Buy which has only a 2 week return period, so I am stuck with the telo now. It's too bad because the telo could be a great product if Ooma fixed the bugs it could save people a lot of money on phone service. Also, you have to return your "defective" telo to Ooma after you receive your new replacement. I did so 2 days afterwards, but it takes 10 days to get to Ooma's California location. In the mean time, Ooma kept sending me emails and voicemails that if I didn't return it in 14 days, I would be charged. They could have simply checked the tracking number they assigned in their return label to see that it was enroute. I had even called them to let them know I brought it to the UPS store, but the messages continued until they finally received it.

Very Good Phone Service At An Incredible Price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works fine at an unbeatable price. Just $80 for the phone router and then about $5.11 per month. And it worked with my old cordless phone. Try it out.

Paid for itself in less than two months!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I still like a land line to occasionally send or receive faxes. Didn't like the high prices of my traditional phone company. The cable company's offering wasn't much better. This Ooma was simple to setup. I can send and receive faxes, and the call quality is excellent. Almost as good value as cutting the cable tv cord!

a nice "landline" alternative
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want a "home" phone, not just a cell, and don't want to be gouged by Comcast or Verizon, this works well. Setup was simple. You can have the "free" service for the cost of the device (but you still have to pay taxes and fees). The Premium service is much the same as Comcast only much cheaper.

Ooma phone system
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After ATT cost reached the point that we just had to do something. OOMA had high reviews around the net so we picked it up and set it up that night. We set it up with new number mad sure that everything was working just fine then transferred our existing number. OOMA walked us through each step. They said it could take up to 4 week but it was completed in under a week. Now we have a great phone system and I can use my smart phone with OMMA as well.

Good basic phone service
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ooma Telo works great providing phone service. However, when you register the unit, they automatically start a 'free preview' of their premium service. If you don't catch it in time, you're billed $100 for the annual service. Porting your number is also expensive, when it needn't be. They aggressively push their premium service, but if you can get by their marketing stuff, the product really does what it's made for.

Basically OK--tone chime at dial tone start
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Slightly distorted as compared with conventional wireline phone service but is generally OK. Dial tone starts with Ooma tone chime signature, which seems strange and might be an issue with certain attached equipment. Basic service requires monthly payment of around $6 to cover various fees. Quality is adequate.

Rocky start but ace tech turned things around.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first all I could do with this was receive phone calls. I called support several times. On the third call I wanted to cancel and they REALLY did not want to give up on me, so...the third time was a charm. The guy who helped me was in the Philippines (2AM-I could hear a rooster in the background). He send a firmware update and lo and behold I could make and receive phone calls.

Best option for free phone service
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.was a bit skeptical at first, not sure if I needed to keep a land line having 4 cell phones in the family, but for the cost of the device and the monthly fee of +/-$4.00 it was a no brainer, I have been very satisfied and highly recommend this service, look out for specials so you don’t pay full price…

works as advertised
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy set up. Great customer service to clear up a address issue. Call quality is on par with the old landline. I did not port my old number. Easy install I disconnected the line coming in from Verizon and attached the phone cord from the ooma device into the existing phone jack and every phone in the house was on line. It will pay for itself in under 3 months.

Worth the time to set up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had difficulty at first trying to reach the company but was able to do so with success and needs met. It is important to follow the instructions carefully when setting up the phone. I'm still trying to figure out how to 'connect' my other phone lines to Ooma. The sound is clear and I am happy with the results at this time. If consumer wishes to keep 'own' phone number, MUST register for transfer ONLINE before talking to present phone provider; can take up to 3 weeks, so be aware.

Works Fine
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I am satisfied. The number port was very expensive $49. Service is good. Ooma will automatically sign you up for Premier Service ($10/month), so ensure that you manually turn that off. It works out to be out about $88 for the device and about $8 every month after that. As opposed to your cable/fiber/phone provide where it would be about $20 on a triple play package or $20-$40 as a stand alone package.
