It is a good phone & investment for basic users

Ooma is a very good phone for those who are not into a lot of international calling including Canada. That means, if you want to keep calling within US it is a good investment and you can save a lot of money over the years. If you are a person who makes a lot of international calls, this is not at all recommended for you. Better you off with Vonage. Because to make cheap international calls you need to subscribe to their premium service which will cost you additional $10 a month. With that you have to pay another $10 for 1000 international minutes. With the basic Federal/e911/state tax etc that will come up to $24 (+/-1) a month with limited number (1000 minutes) of international calls. Fee/taxes $3.50/Month Premium Service $10.00/Month International minutes $10.00/Month Total $23.50/Month If you pay another $10 (Total around $34 including tax) you can have unlimited US/Canada & international minutes with Vonage. Another misleading fact is that they do not provide a True second line with their premium service. It is a virtual second line. I am a phonepower customer for more than 2 years and they provide you with 2 physical lines in one adapter. You can have a conference with upto 5 people if you have 2 line phone with you. With Ooma's virtual second line you can have conference upto 3 people only. Despite the fact that it is not a real cost saver compared to Vonage, I am still keeping Ooma because it is the only VOIP service that is fully compatible with FAX/Alarm systems after PhonePower. Conclusion: if you are a basic user who needs to call within USA only, Ooma is the right choice for you; otherwise you have wide options there in the VOIP market :)

    Best Telephone Service

I highly recommend this product. Please, save yourself some money and forget about paying monthly bills for lifetime. With the money you save, get yourself a mobile data plan (which is what I did) or faster home internet connection, or just keep the money you saved. You have option to add the premium features if you are addicted to them. Personally, I didn't feel the need for extra/premium features since I mostly use my cellphone. I switched from cablevision to Ooma and never felt the difference at all; the call quality is phenomenal. You can use your existing phones with ooma telo which is also a big plus because you don't need to buy new phones. You can also keep your existing phone number by paying a one time fee of $40 (takes around 3 weeks to completely port the number; make sure not to cancel you existing service until the porting gets completed with ooma). Ooma is better than magicjack (which require PC to be on at all times), vonage and optimum voice. I have used them all and let me tell you, once you go with ooma, you will never look back. If you don't believe me, read all the reviews on other website and look at how happy ooma customers are. Plus, I saved a lot of money by switching to ooma. You only pay $12 per year, which is a mandatory regulatory recovery fee. Please, make sure you have a good internet connection though (esp. upload speed). For advanced users, you can setup Qos on your router for dedicated connection to ooma.

I installed my OOMA with ease. It took about 10 minutes! Porting your curirent phone number took about 10 days. Once it ported kissed my vonage bill good bye!!! At about $34/mo Savings, This system will pay for itself in 6 months! Now that's a quick return on investment. Annual savings will be $408 per year!!! Quality is just as good or better than vonage service and so easy to use!

Voice quality is good and it has a long list of advanced features. My unit would not connect, but Ooma tech support did get it working after a couple of days of back and forth. If you use Back-to-my-Mac or a UPnP or NAT-PMP media server the Ooma Telo is not compatible with those configurations, because it provides it own DHCP server that you can't disable and is supposed to be installed ahead of your router. I got it to work by installing after router and it seems to be working OK. Check out the details and FAQ's on the Ooma website. Plan on getting the Premiere service. At $10 a month its a bargain considering the features and compared to AT&T, Vonage or cable providers VOIP services.

I purchased about one month ago, and so far so good. I purchased this due to my Comcast phone bill being $49.00 a month, so in 4 months it will pay for its self. I elected to take a new phone number; it is a pain if you want to keep your old number. I recommend this for anyone who still wants a landline, and reduce their bills. Thanks OOMA and Best Buy…

    WORKS FOR ME!!

This is a great little device. I had this plugged in to my DSL router in 5 minutes and started receiving calls about 10 minutes after opening the box. That is fast and easy. Honestly .. this reminds me on an Apple product ... simple - straighforward - easy. For the folks who say, "Ir doesnt' work for me" you may wish to check your broadband connectivity. Just because you have DSL or Cable doesn't mean this will work for you. With my non-scientifific research, I'm guessing you'll need AT LEAST 1.5 Mpbs downstream and 512 kpbs per second upstream to get a realible connection. I have 7Mmps downstream, so Im OK. Works great .. I would recommend this to all my friends and family! Good bye phone bill!

Ooma was simple to setup with it connected directly to a cordless handset base. We needed it to ring through our wall jacks so that the TV could be connected to a phone line for DirecTV. I followed the directions from Ooma and was able to get it to work through the phone jacks. I have cancelled my account with the phone company and within a few months this will pay for itself and start saving us money!

    Not a Bad VOIP!!

Certainly is cheaper than Magic Jack which requires a PC to be on at all times.. $4/month in my area for the basic service, and thats just the Taxes.. The premium service is $10/month.. Certainly cheaper than Vonage.. The sound quality is awesome on my internet connection, I have a 30Mps DL 3Mps UL.... I have a Time Warner Turbo boost Roadrunner ISP. I wouldn't suggest a slower connection. The sound quality is only as good as the modem/router can spare free data.. I have a Netgear N600 which is an awesome device too.. I also have the ooma handset.. Its black and white on the screen but easy to use.. $30/yr or so is not a bad Phone Bill.. Get this device, it does have a $$ back promise.

Bought the Ooma Telo so I could get rid of my landline but keep my phone number which I've had for 9 years. Yesterday I did just that. The phone number porting process was very simple and took about 3 weeks to complete with Ooma handling it and giving me status updates the whole time (for a reasonable $40 one time fee). Voice quality has actually improved over my old POTS line! I'm happy and would recommend this product to anyone who's tired of paying $600/yr for a phone line. Clearly the ROI equation on this purchase is pretty simple has I'll have made back my investment in less than 4 months.

I got one for myself and one for my grandmother. I paid $199 for each unit and $119 for a year of service on each unit. It might $640 might sound like a lot for a phone bill but neither me or my grandmother will have to pay phone bill for over a year. (You get 6 months free service) I'm saving tons of money a month. Ooma is more expensive than Magic Jack but sounds much better. The device cost more that Vonage but the service is cheaper.

I have been using OOMA for a couple of years and never had any difficulty. Moved 4 times to 3 different states with no problems. Complaints about poor call quality most likely stem from a poor Internet Service Provider and would be the same with most any VOIP service. I have recommended and installed this service for several friends and the only problem experienced was remedied with an adjustment to his cheap Verizon DSL modem. Call quality has always been outstanding and the Premier plan has more features than I will ever use. The bluetooth connection to my iPhone is awesome.

I read a few complaints about choppy voice transmissions, so I was hesitant. When I first installed it (directly behind my DSL modem), it actually had a choppy transmission. Worried, I just let it sit and "warm up." After some time, maybe ten minutes, it was flawless. I don't have a super fast DSL line (1.5 down, 384k up), and it works great! Sometimes it will transmit a little choppy, but the QoS feature works out the choppiness, and has always been short lived. I imagine a faster Internet connection would alleviate the choppiness entirely. Can't complain for free phone calls!

Ooma works great, I'm glad I bought it. My setup and download only took 15 minutes. I must have a faster connection than the people that took an hour or more. Call quality has been very good, only once has the other caller said they had trouble hearing me, and I've never had trouble hearing them. I like that it hooks up directly to the Internet so I don't have to have a computer running. The only problem I had was when I first hooked it up, between my cable modem and router like they show, it killed Internet to my router. As soon as it was done updating I moved it to a port on my router and have not had a problem since. I have not even had to change any QoS settings to keep up the call quality. I wish it had name caller ID for free, but it does have plain caller ID. I don't need any of the other extra features so it isn't worth $10 a month to me to get the name. If you do need the extra features though, $10 is cheap for what you get. Getting my old number ported took a little longer than expected, but it was also around the holidays so totally acceptable.I did not have to contact customer service for anything, so can't say if that is good or bad. I would absolutely recommend ooma.

Soooo happy to ditch AT&T and all their service fees! Works fine, voice quality is comparable to traditional landline. Costs us $3.47 per month. There is sometimes a very slight delay when answering a call, but once you get used to taking a moment to say hello it is no problem. I have recommended this to just about everyone I know and will continue to do so.

Purchased the Ooma Telo and ported my home phone number. Setup was simple, sound quality with high speed cable is perfect with no phone bill to ever have to pay. Initial startup cost plus port charge will be paid for in less than a half of year of use. Love the ability to view and manage voice mail remotely from their website and the ability to have voice mails emailed directly to me. I highly recommend this device.

I debated for a long time before making the jump to OOMA, but I am glad I did. I did have to wait for my phone number to be ported but it was done on time and my system works great!! I have read that some people had a noisey connection, I had that too until I realized that my AT&T cordless phone base was causing the noise. I just moved them about 2 feet apart and now I have perfect sound, I now have no hum in my PC speakers either! What is really cool is that I back fed my home phone circuit so all of my jacks have that cool OOMA tone when I pick up the phone. I also went with the premiere service because that included the cost of the number port and alot of other cool features. I was also concerned about what would happen if the internet went down but if that happens OOMA forwards my calls to my cell phone. I am very happy with this purchase.

Purchased the new telo from Besty buy even before it was scheduled to be released. I can say I'm absolutely loving it. I've had only a cell phone for over 5 years. I was looking for some way to cut my phone bill. True this is an upfront cost. But even with paying $250 for this, then in two months $120 for premier service, it is still cheaper and will pay for itself within 5 months after I cut my cell phone. Yes a big up front cost but to me, I'll take it. Again it pays for itself withing 5 months for me. Another feature I'm loving is the multi ring. It rings at home, and my cell phone at the same time. Pick up either line. I plan on going with prepaid cell phones that way for emergency calls I can go ahead and pick up. All other callers will have to wait my return home for a call back. Again I will pay $13 a month for home phone service any day starting on year 2 & 3 & 4.... I did contact customer service twice, got through within minutes both times. The first representative was ok, not the friendliest. The second time I called, he was great. So overall no complaints from me.

The Ooma is an awesome voip alternative to the phone companys analog home phone line. We dropped analog phone and DSL (~65.00/month) and now have Road Runner (~30.00/month) only. The Ooma was on sale for $200.00. In 6 months it will pay for itself!!! The sound quality is great. Customer service has been wonderful. If you look at blogs on this system-look at the dates. It looks like Ooma had issues earlier on but they appear to have corrected them. I had no problems what so ever. My number was ported over when they said it would. Very painless. The initial connection might be a little difficult for a non-technical person but I beleive that Ooma's tech support could help you out if you have any. Oh yea, tech support is open 7 days a week, extended business hours. WOW! Overall: I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I LOVE IT!

I purchased this product almost a year ago. I do not have a land line and no cell service at my residence. This is my home phone. As long as you have reliable internet service you will love this product. I determined it would take me nine months to break even after purchasing and I am saving money on phone service now. Crystal clear voice and it sends a text message to my cell if I miss a call while out. If you subscribe to the $10/month premium service it will forward calls to your cell along with other options.
