    Beautiful Damaged Steelbook

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Beautiful steelbook. The artwork is a bit much for the actual movie, as it implies big action sequences/disaster scenes. This definitely isnt the case for those of you who have seen the movie. Its a human story about a man conflicted by his moral compass yet compelled by war to use his brilliance to develop devastating weapons. It follows Op as he navigates the politics of war, being monitored by the security state, managing friendships and family (poorly) while being very good at the one thing that the government needs him for. Its one of Nolans least “fantastical” movies. Its very grounded but still compelling and intense. Its like being a fly on the wall during some of the most important discussions in human history. As for the steelbook packaging, the oppenheimer steelbook fiasco is a perfect example of why it is great that Best buy isnt selling physical media starting in 2024. These one star reviews wont change anything, and even if they did notice, it wouldnt matter. The days of “best buy” exclusive packaging are done after this year, so no worries, collectors. Theyve shown that $30-$40 product isnt premium in their opinion. Its a low margin nuisance for them to have to stock and handle/ship. They want to sell tvs, dyson vacuums and smart home products that have much higher profit margins and far less foot traffic. Those products are also more durable and customers arent worried about the condition of the boxes. Theyd rather be a warehouse for rarely needed applicances than a frequently visited entertainment store. If thats their vision, thats cool. We will adjust, there are plenty of retailers who do take the time to correctly package collectibles, theyll get the exclusives going forward. In the meantime i do hope this gets restocked so we can get replacements.

    Goof Movie, Bad Store.

Movie is a 5. The handling of the steelbook release is a 1. Make it make sense. Stop allowing double dipping and up the production count BB, it shouldn't be this hard for people to enjoy a movie with a nice case.

    Best Buy Exclusive Failure

    Posted .

It's quite rare for me to ever leave a bad review. This is one I feel the need to submit. This release was a major fail on Best Buys end. I have literally been checking the product page for this Best Buy exclusive Oppenheimer Steel Book every day since this product was posted. Every day. The one time I logged in a few weeks ago I was able to randomly add the movie to my cart, but after filling all the info for the order and pressing submit I was met with a message indicating there was an error with the product. When I refreshed and attempted again the item showed up as "Coming soon". Every day it has said "Coming soon" all the way up to last night. Now today I visit the product page on release day and the item shows up as "unavailable". Seems that a very low quantity was made and some people were fortunate to have the opportunity for purchase. Seems that Best Buy really is phasing out physical media especially after their official announcement.

Didn't Even Get a Chance to Buy

I checked this page as soon as it went up, and it said the steelbook was unavailable to order with the price hidden. I didn't know why since I thought it was a pre-order, but I figured I'd come back once it officially released. I kept checking at least once a week to see if the status would change, but it didn't. At midnight of release day, I checked again, ready to purchase. The price was there but it said it was still unavailable. Weird. I kept refreshing for about an hour and a half before giving up and going to bed. The next morning (still on release day), it says it's sold out. What kind of garbage deal does Best Buy have going on with steelbooks now where you can't even buy them?

Double Orders and A Narrow Window

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Preorders are meant to establish the demand for a product so a proper quantity can be manufactured. Instead, Best Buy chooses to continue their trend of small batches for block buster films. People who are lucky enough to squeeze into the tiny initial order window make out with 2 copies so they “have one in case the other gets damaged.” All that ends up happening is scalped online sales and fans left, once again, empty handed on release say. I’m glad that Best Buy is dipping out of the physical media game, because this stunt is getting extremely old.

    Stock Failure

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The steelbook itself is great but it was not given a good release to all those who wanted it. Best buy continues to fail on producing enough steelbooks for demand, then over produces steelbooks for items that nobody wants. To the guy that cries about the negative reviews, they get what they deserve. This is a continuing trend for a company that is going to lose a lot of customers who only visit the store or site for physical media. A lot of people do not like ordering online due to product coming damaged and if you miss the short pre-order window, you cannot obtain the item. Sad Best Buy, very sad.

    Terrible Pre Order System

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Upon the first official pre ordering of this steelbook, it immediately went out of stock and unavailable for purchase. After a quick restock, it then went out of stock again. And finally, on release day, it is yet again out of stock. Forever? Or will it get another random restock with little notificatuon? Good questions, as best buy obviously doesn’t care about making their pre orders more efficent and fair for the actual collectors who just want a copy of their favorite movie on steelbook. Either stop offering them, or change your operations. This is getting old.

Too bad, missed opportunity to go out with a bang!

Sucks things worked out like this in the end. I've always had a great experience from BB with 4K steel-books and just about everything else going back as far as I can remember but this was a quite disappointing. This is the last stand for us physical only folks it seems. Would be different if avail. elsewhere. Even my non-Steel-Book copy got delayed/lost/might be cancelled. We need a support group to cope with watching all important Media from here on out at the worst possible quality with zero ownership via streaming until we die it seems.

    Fail..again

I have never missed a steelbook preorder before this title. I literally checked multiple times a day, daily, for weeks. As soon as it popped up on the site it was gone. Did you guys only order 27 copies? I am honestly glad you are exiting the physical media market. Between your awful bubble mailer packaging for limited edition steelbooks, increased prices (it is obvious the price bump covers your reinstituted 'free shipping') and low quantities, somebody else will surely donit better.

Top 5 Best Buy’s biggest fail this year #1 imo

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Went to 2 different Best Buy’s at 9 and 942am they sad no steelbook were there, when the employees helped look and said no one canceled their pick up order. He made it like they had pick up steel book but nothing to put on shelves… or when itd happen… disappointing as all…. I’m tired of online ordering, in store should be 50% of them. Not everyone wants to check a website over n over to be let down… this happens so much, I hate digital switch over. I miss dvds and shelves of them. Digital the companies control what we have, and can lose rights. Physical is the best way and it’s slowly disappearing…..

    Great movie, terrible purchase options

I've been trying to pre order this steel book for weeks and was never given the option because Best Buy's website kept saying "Coming Soon". Now, they're all sold out and I'm unable to get a copy. Thanks Best Buy! I find it hard to believe that you've sold out of all of these at 8am on release day, but I guess since you're not wanting to sell physical media anymore you got the least amount of copies in as possible. What a joke.....

Only again Best Buy fail us and me again. The whole point of pre orders is securing your item. The when it comes to delivery time, your credit magically fails. The sane card you had used before for years fails. Seems you didnt order enough product Best Buy. Now, you have all these scappers on Ebay selling this oppenheimer steelbook for $100s+ way to go Best Buy. Incompetency works for you

Used to work at best buy a year ago, never have i seen this bad of a pre order. Absolutely horrible for such a highly wanted item. My friends that still work there say todays been a mess. Showing 0 stock but having them in the back but not being able to sell them. Absolute fumble. With all the changes best buy has made in this last year, this fumble was the icing on the cake. What a mess!

Time and again they make this process so difficult. I was waiting for the preorder but was busy the ONE day you could preorder it. Then I waited for the sale date. Actually stayed up until 12:15am and it never went on sale. Woke up at 3:15am to check and it was sold out lol embarrassing, but not like they care anyway.

Wish I could give a half of a star for this review. Best Buy really dropped the ball on this one. Just about the biggest release of the year and one of the best steelbooks only for no one to be able to get theirs hands on it and if they did, they’d be lucky for it not to be damaged in the mail due to poor packaging.

Make so little stock its sold out instantly months before the release date and then can’t properly package them so they arrive ruined with none left to exchange. How long have steelbooks been around and best buy still cant figure then out?

This was "sold out" weeks before it was even officially released, which is a joke this day and age for something that isn't even technically a limited edition. Were there no copies shipped to Best Buy store locations? Now they are just being scalped for inflated prices. Great job, Best Buy!

Best Buy has the worst shipping

Movie is great. Problem is Best Buy with the worst shipping. Bubble wrap envelope on a SteelBook is a joke. 75% of the time, it comes with the spine completely broken. Glad they are giving up physical media - maybe someone else will send it in a box instead of saving a dollar in shipping.

Thank you for exiting the physical media game. You're truly one of the worst retailers ever. I can't wait to close my Best Buy Credit Card as I will never make another purchase with your store. This Steelbook not being available is the last straw. Amazon wins again.
